Still same drought here in SE Iowa. Never saw so many completely cloudless days! Like living in Arizona! Big storm complex Sat night up I-35 and across I-80 in Iowa. Stormed for 2 hrs Sunday early 1 to 4 AM but storms tried hard,,could not push SE into Moderate drought area of SE Iowa. Sometimes storms even backed up! Never saw anything like it on radar. Expecting drought Monitor update to Severe,,wonder how long that takes? |

All that was received around SE Iowa,,,Not the inch National Weather Service had Forecast! They should have stuck with the computer Models earlier last week that said we would miss any drought ending moisture. They got suckered in! The drought condtions continue for most of SE Iowa. Ring of Fire was west of me this morning. I got spin off in dying mode. About only rain I have gotten this Summer has been from this Ring of Fire stuff. Amazing! Our Weather Service Office in DesMoines had my area in a 90% likelihood of heavy rain last night. Three quarters to an inch at least. Then a 70% likelihood of a half again today. I say these computer models need some tweaking! My area is headed for the drought monitor map again! If this keeps up!!! Incredible! |

Looks like my area for sure now will be added to the growing abnormally dry areas of SE Iowa. Weather Services have done a 180 on their forecast, Yesterday they were saying heaviest rain with the incoming weekend system would increase eastern areas. Now they are saying best precip west,,weakening east? Cross my fingers and hope they are wrong in my favor. But that has been the trend of late. Rains north in Iowa and west,,dying SE. Well drought Monitor area in my area is expanding. Looks like another two dry weeks. Weather System,,coming,,once thought to be a copious rain producer for my area,,now less than a 10th predicted. I predicted this in the face of Models that said the contrary days ago. We are in a drought pattern of blocking. Energy west/blocking east. Expected to repeat first week of Oct. Glad I am up north and away from the Dust! Feel sorry for my neighbors down there yet though. I lived in MI most of my life before moving to Iowa. Northeast Lower MI has a drier climate than most areas due to frequent Canadian air intrusions. Driet time I experienced up there was a month of June with less than a quarter inch. Now my area of SE-Iowa looks very bit like it will go a total Month with less than a tenth! Blows my mind ! Am I in Iowa or Wyoming? By looks of maps better chances for moisture in Wyoming ! |

Will not be reporting for awhile. Notlike there is anything to report anyway for my area. Weather system next week looks to pull north and west of Iowa and have little moisture for southeast Iowa. Next week represents week 4 of the measly .06 I recorded. Looks feasible that my yard will make it to five weeks with nothing! Longest I have ever recorded. Imagine my area is on the Map by now. Abnormally dry map for sure. A flash drought I think it is called. Whatever it is called,,ITs DARN DRY ! Going to Michigan this week. Will enjoy the Upper Low over there and the wet conditions. By the way,,How did moisture get over there when last week there was only high pressure block ? Who Knows? Missed rainin on SE Iowa though is all I know.... |
