Heavy snow at obs time -- 7:00 - it took a good 45 minutes to take this obs. Measurement method. Take a series of 4 averages - 10 each in a cross section of level, lawn space, average each 10, The variance in each average was relatively low (+/- about 1 cm.) So they were averaged and converted to inches. giving 17.1 A core sample was taken in the driveway at a spot that measured exactly the average, A metal sheet was inserted under the inverted 4 inch gauge holding the core and was melted. As a check, the rainguage catch (from another gauge) was also measured without alteration: yielding a ratio approximately the same the core = 8.4 - to - 1 Snow to liquid. seems high for such dry snow, but that is what I measured and how.

Measurements: Snow board placed in location that matched the average measurement from yesterday's observation (computed from an average of many readings. Another snow board was placed nearby at 4PM. 10-4 PM total 7.2 inches. 4PM - *PM 3.3. Storm total 27.6 compares reasonably with snow depth measured at storm's end of 25, (2 inch settling seems reasonable. I used the same technique for estimating melted precip as yesterday: I melted the catch that naturally fell in the rain gauge, and computed it's liquid ratio from the depth measured in the rain gauge. In addition I did a core on the snow accumulated on the snow board placed at yesterdays obs time. Once again they agreed at a somewhat low sounding "snow-to-liquid" ratio of only 8.4 -- exactly the same as yesterdays computed ratio. Seems low, but I'll report what I measure. Snow sure feels as if it has a high water ratio when I'm shoveling.

North side of hills have about 3 inches of snow, south side has about 20% cover or less. Level ground mostly bare, so I'll put a token 0.5 average snow cover for now.

Snow melts and turns to slush within about an hour after snow stopped or let up. An additional snow shower occurred overnight with trace additional accumulations.
