10/1/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Good morning, and Happy New Water Year! It feels really good to be back reporting precip in Mecosta county. I want to thank the awesome staff at CoCoRaHS for issuing me a new number and changing my location on the maps (old number was MI-ME-2), after a brief 4 year reporting absence. Of course, nothing to report this morning. But the gauge is safely mounted and ready to go! Clear, crisp morning, with heavy dew on the ground, 41 degrees. A bright moon shines above, with just a small piece of it cut-out from the edge indicating the Waxing Gibbous phase. I heard distant trees blowing in the wind, indicating another breezy day over the area, as this persistent NE flow continues over the region. Current VIS image shows a band of stratus just to the southeast of us and over by Mt. Pleasant, so we may see some cloud coverage today, but most of it should stay off to our east. GFS guidance indicates pretty decent mid-level moisture plume pushing up from the south late in the day Saturday into Sunday, offering us our next chance for rain coming up.
10/2/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temps hovering right around the 40 degree mark this morning. A bit cooler stepping out with a little bit of fog hovering over the pond. Even clearer this morning then yesterday, so another nice day today expected with less cloud coverage.
10/3/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy skies this morning is keeping the temps a little warmer then past days. 46 degrees currently, with breezy conditions. There was a beautiful sunset last night, lots of reds and pinks, plus the added bonus of crepuscular rays. Still the possibility exists for rain late in the day today continuing on Sunday, as the system over the SE pushes moisture into the interior regions of the country, helped along by a southerly steering flow in the mid-levels.
10/4/2015 8:00 AM 0.24 M M M M 46 degrees and hardly any wind to report at observation time, just the sound of canadian geese flying east. First rain to report for October, and the ground is nicely saturated this morning. Cloudy skies with some patchy drizzle falling at observation time. Rain started yesterday shortly after 2pm, and was light to mod in intensity for most of the afternoon into the evening hours. 0.22 inches of rain fell between 2 and 10pm, with 0.02 inches falling between 10 and 8am. Pretty light rainfall overnight.
10/5/2015 8:00 AM 0.03 M M M M 51°, cloudy skies, and a little bit of fog out there greet us this morning. Little bit of rain in the gauge, but not a whole lot. Light showers yesterday on and off, mostly before 2pm. 0.01 inches of rain fell after that time, during the overnight hours. A shortwave was progged to push over in the overnight hours, accounting for the minimal rainfall. HRRR simulated reflectivity picked up on it, and verified well, based off of the weak returns picked up on the radar last night. Drying trend begins tomorrow, lasting only a few days before the next system rolls in.
10/6/2015 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M The ground is very saturated this morning, but at least the fog we had earlier in the morning is gradually burning off, still some fog out there, especially closer to the Muskegon River. 53° and nearly 100% humidity, under overcast skies. A little bit of rain in the gauge this morning, more then likely from the mist we had earlier over station and in the overnight, very light precip though. Max temp yesterday 58°, so fairly mild for the fall, still waiting on our first frost, which is not likely to happen for some time. Zonal flow over the next 24 hours, will transition to weak ridging building into the area accompanied by warm temps for fall. May see some breaks in the clouds later today but 850mb moisture doesn't really clear out til later tonight. Next system looks to move in later in the week.
10/7/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 53° and overcast skies with patchy fog present at the observation time this morning. Low temp: 49°, Max temp: 69° over the last 24 hours. Cleared out nicely yesterday afternoon and warmed up almost to 70°, before more clouds rolled in during the overnight. Looking for a nice day over central Michigan, once these clouds clear out and the inversion breaks. Current IR satellite shows decent clearing over central Wisconsin up to the UP as well, so it won't be too long. WV also indicates some ridging building in over Wisconsin. Next shot of any rain appears to be later in the afternoon tomorrow into the overnight.
10/8/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overcast and plenty of fog out there this morning. 45° and calm winds. Low temp: 37°, Max temp: 66°, over the past 24 hours. Pretty wide temp spread, but the clear skies last night made the temps drop down into the 30s. Yesterday was really nice. The fog and low cloud broke out around 11am.. Mix of sun and clouds, until the overnight, when we really started to clear out. The fall colors are more present in the birches more then anything, maples are slow in turning, so far. Looking for showers and possibly a thunderstorm later in the day today associated with a cold front pushing through the area. Not sure if we'll see much sun today with the fog and low cloud already present over the area. IR satellite also shows a large batch of low clouds pushing SE over Wisconsin out ahead of the front. Current radar shows the main batch of showers moving fairly quickly over central Wisconsin. HRRR simulated reflectivity model, shows the main line of showers pushing through after 5pm, so we'll see if that comes to fruition, may have isolated showers before then over the area.
10/9/2015 8:00 AM 0.60 M M M M Overcast, 51°, and mist present this morning at the observation time. Rain started yesterday at 5pm as expected and continued until shortly after 9pm. Started light but transitioned to heavier rainfall between 7pm and 9pm approx. Decreasing cloud coverage expected today, already seeing some clearing on the IR satellite just to the west of Green Bay and over parts of western Wisconsin.
10/10/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 34°, clear skies, and the sound of geese flying ENE at the observation time this morning. Also, we saw two black squirrels one of which ran up a tree. Pretty chilly, with fog spilling off the pond, due to the warmer water temp and much cooler air temp. Heavy dew on the ground, so I'm not sure if this was a hard frost but definitely patchy frost in some areas. No rain to report over the last 24 hours.
10/11/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 51° and clear skies this morning. Mix of sun and clouds yesterday, followed by a beautiful fall sunset. Looks like clouds cleared out around 6am over much of western Michigan, based off the IR satellite. No rain to report. Quite mild out there this morning compared to yesterday. Expecting warm temps today and tomorrow before an upper level trough moves into the region late Monday night.
10/12/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A few high clouds out there this morning, blocking the sunrise. 52° makes for another mild fall morning this October. Temps edged up into the 70s as expected yesterday, very warm.
10/13/2015 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M 48°, and light mist falling at observation time. Plenty of leaves on the saturated ground. We had some pretty strong breezes come through last night and they're continuing this morning as the front pushes through the area. Low temp: 47°, Max temp: 66°. Much cooler temps this morning, compared to yesterday, so we're definitely observing a change in the weather. Little bit of rain from showers falling last night. Main batch of showers pushed through between 10pm and midnight, with lake effect driven showers moving through after that time before sunrise. Radar still shows some scattered showers west of station moving SE.
10/14/2015 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Temps in the 40s, overcast skies and calm winds at the observation time this morning. The fall colors are really starting to brighten up especially the maples. On and off lake enhanced showers during the day yesterday continuing into the overnight.
10/15/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Caught some deer staring at me during the observation time this morning, otherwise what a beautiful sunrise. Lots of gold and pink colors filling most of the sky. Clouds came back into the area last night and fill the sky this morning, helping us keep those temps up during the overnight. 44° currently. Radar shows showers pushing in off to the west, so we may get some rain today. Clouds didn't really clear out til after 2pm yesterday, but otherwise it was a nice fall day. The colors are really starting to show!
10/16/2015 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M Temps just above the freezing mark this morning. Some heavy rain during the evening hours yesterday gave us a little bit of rain. Gusty winds accompanied the line of showers between 7-8pm, up to 50mph at times. Cool day expected with a chance of seeing some of the white stuff later on.
10/17/2015 8:00 AM 0.03 M M M M First frost of the season, and the ground is a nice cover of white. A trace of precip in the outer tube left out last night, evidenced by some frost collecting in the gauge. Possibly some snow falling at the observation time, but hard to tell. I see some dark clouds pushing in from the west, which could have some embedded lake effect snow showers in them, so we'll see as the morning commences. 29° and calm winds. Yesterday we had some lake effect showers push through mainly before noon, giving us the small amount of precip reported.
10/18/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another chilly fall morning and heavy frost. Got down to 27° last night. With a max temp yesterday of 46°. Currently 28° and some stratocumulus clouds pushing in from the west. Mix of sun and clouds yesterday, coupled with our first snow falling of the season. Mainly flurries with some embedded light snow showers before the noon hour. No accumulation though.
10/19/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Partly cloudy skies with temps above the freezing mark this morning. Not as hard of a frost as the last several mornings. Wonderful stargazing opportunities lately, especially last night. Yesterday featured quite a bit of sunshine with some clouds moving through the area. Looking for today to be similar with temps edging into the 60s.
10/20/2015 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Light rain falling at the observation time this morning. Mild morning with temps in the 50s. Yesterday featured a mix of sun and clouds with gusty winds. As of now gusty winds have settled a bit. Seeing a little bit of clearing out toward the west, so we may see some sunshine later on. Rain started right around the 1035pm mark with some lightning spotted out to the west after 1am.
10/21/2015 8:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Had some light-moderate rain push through yesterday up until the 1 o'clock hour. Sun tried to make an appearance but it was cloudy the rest of the day. Mostly cloudy skies this morning and yet another mild morning with temps in the 50s. Radar shows the main batch of showers well to the south near the Detroit area. Last night this line of showers tried to make its way up into Mecosta county but stayed south closer toward the Kent county line.

Looking for rain to continue into the morning with a possible break in the action by the afternoon hours (based on radar). Mix of sun and clouds yesterday with high cirrus most of the day. Currently 48° and very damp. Pressure continues to fall (no pun intended).

11/20/2015 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Clear, crisp morning with temps right at the freezing mark and light frost, but not covering the outer funnel of the gauge. Yesterday featured some lake effect snow north of the area closer to Big Rapids after sunset. We did see a brief shower pass through after the observation time, but that was the only precip that fell. First winter storm of the season is looking to push through the area later this coming night and into the weekend. Accumulations look to be upwards of 6 inches in spots around the area. Farther south looks to be a better chance at higher amounts. The snowboard is out and ready to go.

Was expecting more in the way of accumulation, but ground temps are still rather warm, plus it started snowing not too long ago. Still expecting some accumulation today as this system presses over the area. Big swath of snow on the radar, but we're really on the northern cusp.

Snow has settled a bit but we got about 3 inches up here in southern Mecosta county. Not bad for the first real snow of the season, considering the track of this system. Farther west into Newaygo as you get closer to the Lake is where it appears to be the most snowfall. Overcast morning. Yesterday featured a mix of sun and clouds with temps barely getting out of the upper 20s. Some settling going on with the snow and temps this morning are slightly warmer then yesterday hovering in the mid 20s.

Little bit of snow on the snowboard from some heavier lake effect that fell mainly before the noon hour yesterday. Sun tried to come out yesterday, but we were under overcast skies til sundown for the most part. For the first times I can remember, the board and the gauge had the same reading based on weighing the snow. Shows that the snow that did fall yesterday fell under calm winds and no drifting taking place. Our total snow depth has gone down slightly, but we're still hovering around the 2 inch mark. That's about to change in the coming days as we near Turkey day.

It just may be the ticket we've been looking for. About 2.5 inches of fresh powder on top of the ever thick icy layer beneath. Tried to take a total core measurement of the total snow depth on the ground but it's way to hard to break through, unfortunately. Will have to wait for some melting to go on. Semi-clear skies this morning with temps near 18 degrees.

Currently 1°F under clear skies with no new snowfall to report. Hard to get a reading on the total snow depth, so we did an average around the area and came up with 5.5 inches. We lost some of that fresh powder reported yesterday morning with some settling and melting going on as temps rose to 32°F by the late afternoon hours.

I would like to take a total core melted value from the ground, but the icy layer beneath is still too hard to break through. With the rain coming late Friday this may very well happen.

Yesterday featured light rain transitioning to harder rain through the evening hours. I was finally able to get a total melted core of the snow currently on the ground. Very wet indeed, but the icy layer that was very hard to break through has nearly melted, leaving us with about 2.5 inches of slushy snow. Not as much precip expected today as we get some drying later on toward the noon hour, but that'll switch over to some pretty hefty snowfall accumulations expected tonight and into Sunday.

More then likely due to the on and off showers we had late yesterday afternoon. Heavy snow began falling right around 7PM. About 3.6 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground, for a total of 6.5 inches including the left over snow that was still on the ground before this new snowfall. Overcast this morning with blowing and drifting snow coming into play as the north winds increase in speed. Lake effect expected later today.

Therefore, an average of 1.5 inches fell late yesterday into the overnight with light snow falling early this morning. Quite a bit of blowing snow yesterday as well, which makes the new snowfall kind of hard to nail down. NOTE: Earlier reports from now on due to College classes.

Temps currently in the teens with wind chill values below that. The wind seems to be blowing in from the S-SW which is blowing around the snow a bit. About 1.7 inches of new snowfall, 1.9 inches out in the open down by the pond, 1.5 inches on the snowboard next to the gauge. Our total snow depth has only gone up a half an inch from yesterday, despite the nearly 2 inches of new snow. Snow began falling around 9pm last night, after a bit of x-country skiing.

Over 3.5 inches fell on the snowboard while down by the pond only 1.9 inches fell. Snow depth still remains between 8 and 9 inches. Lot of heavy snow fall yesterday with most of the snow falling sideways and not able to catch the gauge.

But the catch of the gauge was still a little bit less then the melted value from the snowboard.

A few flurries in the gauge with an icy layer beneath, evidence of the rain that fell. Light snow falling with temps in the low 20s.

Temps are near the 5 degree mark, making for one of the chilliest mornings so far this winter. Light snow showers pushed through mainly between 1pm and 5pm yesterday, giving us a trace of accumulation.

Weighed the gauge, and the formula came out to 0.01 inches, due to frost covering the inner rim of the gauge. Light snow falling outside at the moment. Had a snow band push through between 1 and 1:30pm yesterday. Took a melted core from the total snow on the ground. Had to use a spade to get through the 2.4 inches of ice on the ground.

Seeing some very light lake enhanced snow on radar pushing in from the east, more then likely driven by the brewing nor'easter pushing up the east coast.

A mainly sunny day is expected but we may get some clouds push in from the NE off Lake Huron, driven by the nor'easter moving up the eastern seaboard. A trace of snow fell yesterday and proceeded to melt on many surfaces as temps reached up to the freezing mark. Bright moon last night.

Yesterday we had some flurries and freezing drizzle fall around the area, but barely even a trace amount to report. A few snow flakes in the gauge along with some drizzle in liquid form once melted. Took a melted core value this morning and we still have about 2 inches of ice below the top layer of snow.

Snow pushed through early this morning after the main batch moved through between 4pm and 12am yesterday. Although we did have a mix of precip during the morning yesterday. Temps hovering in the mid 20s under overcast skies. This is one of those rare occurrences where the melted value from the board is the same as the gauge. Indicating that the snowfall fell very uniformly. Along with both snow boards showing the same accumulation of new snow.

The snow is very good for packing and quite high in water content. Several rounds of snow occurred yesterday, one batch between 9 and 2:30pm and then another round from the clipper that pushed through between 8:30 and 9:30pm. This lake enhanced just kicked in about an hour ago or so.

The snowboards have a very thin coating of ice on top, with a few snow grains above this layer. Most of the snow which fell between 9 and 1:30pm, was heavy wet flakes which melted quickly on the snow boards. Temps in the teens this morning and only a trace of snow to report from the latest batch of lake effect pushing through earlier this morning and during the overnight. Looks like we're going to see a bit of the sun today which would be nice for a change.

A very mild day yesterday as temps rose into the mid-40s with a bit of snow melt going on. We've lost an inch from yesterday. More melting expected today with the help of rain showers later on.

Heavy snow started falling after 4pm until 5pm, when it switched over to sleet and freezing rain. By that time we had 0.5 inches of very wet snow. Between 5pm and 8pm another 0.5 inches fell, but consisted of a very icy mixture. Rain finally pushed through after the 8 o'clock hour lasting for most of the night. In addition to the wintry precip we had quite the lightning show lasting for several hours. A very slushy mixture in the gauge consisting of a large chunk of ice with rain surrounding it.

Lots of blowing and drifting snow yesterday, so I took an average of the new snowfall total from the snowboard closest to the gauge, and out in the open down by the pond. But it's pretty hard to get a good estimate on the new snow with all the drifting yesterday. Our total snow depth has only gone up about a half an inch. Also averaged the melted core amounts from both the boards.

Yet another instance this year of our precip from the gauge coming out to the same liquid value as the melted core taken from one of the snow boards. Both boards measured between 0.4 and 0.5 inches of new snow, but 0.4 inches was the predominant reading. The wind just started picking up after 8am, but otherwise no blowing or drifting taking place. Makes it easy to measure.

I ended up averaging readings from the snowboards and from the surrounding area. But ended up taking the new snow depth readings out on the lawn, due to more consistent readings noticed out in the open, then from the dock down by the pond and the board close to the gauge. Temps near 30 degrees and quite windy, snow drifts come up to my knee almost. Snow started around 1145am yesterday ending around 6am this morning. The snow didn't really start accumulating till just before 3pm.

Measured the snow last night at 7:15pm, and we had a total of 3.6 inches, so we have not received much new snow, just this quite thick layer of ice from freezing rain/sleet that fell last night. Some freezing drizzle falling at the observation time with temps right at the freezing mark. 0.52 inches of precip from the gauge also measured at 7:15pm, with precip amount from snowboard coming out to 0.46 inches. Totals from 7:15PM to 8AM: 0.3 inches new snow/sleet, 0.33 inches of precip from gauge, 0.11 inches of precip from snowboard. Very heavy precip amounts when weighed, almost coming to 600 grams.

About 0.2 inches of snow and ice on the boards, but mainly ice which is hard to break through and get a good reading. It's gonna take a little while for this ice to melt. Hopefully we can get some sunshine today to melt it off. The trees still have a great deal of ice on them. About a half an inch of ice in the bottom of the gauge. Gauge weighed 615 grams, so we had some pretty good freezing rain/sleet accumulation yesterday. A little bit of snow in the gauge which melted almost the instant I brought it indoors. Overcast this morning and 27°. Had a break in the freezing rain between 8:30 and 10:45am yesterday. Freezing rain came in hard once again during the afternoon hours before quitting right around 6pm, before the snow moved in.

Some pretty good melting yesterday as temps edged up to 40°. A mix of sun and clouds with some clearing later on in the day toward sunset. Snow depth ranges from 1 inch in some spots to 1.5 inches. Quite the ice melt yesterday with many of the trees around the area dropping big chunks of ice on area roads. Made for some pretty exciting driving conditions especially along M-20 out of Big Rapids. Also saw many of the power company trucks doing work on the lines. But things are gradually getting back to normal for the most part. Today's melting will help out along with the rain expected for Easter.

Very granulated and accumulating on some surfaces. Only a trace of accumulation.

Snow ended at 10:45am with a break in precip until 2pm when the rain from this system moved in. Light rain lasted until 8pm.

More snow accompanied by some sleet expected later today followed by a switch over to rain later in the afternoon. Looks like this might be our last blast of Winter for the season (knock on wood).

Temps could very well reach the 80 degree mark again today based on how strong this ridge is built over us. But it appears the pattern is going to change over the next few days bringing chance of rain and cooler temps. Finally saw some high cirrus clouds move in late yesterday, but other then that we've had some very clear days.

Snow accumulated on roofs and cars in the cooler spots, mainly north and west of us, closer to Big Rapids. Not as noticeable in this neck of the woods.

Later in the evening, after 11:45pm, heavier showers rolled through accompanying some thunderstorms. It's nice to get the rain, we were getting a bit dry in this neck of the woods.

NW steering flow helped push the squall line of embedded thunderstorms over the region, with the brunt of the precip falling to the north of us. Precip ended after midnight, undergoing significant weakening as they moved through, which explains the minimal precip to report this morning. Gusty winds accompanied an outflow boundary that moved through after 11pm, before the rain began and after the main line pushed through. Overcast and very muggy and warm this morning with temps in the mid 60s. Looks like we'll hit the 90° mark today. Yesterday's high was 86°.

Not as warm as I thought it would be. Gusty NW winds, helped keep temps in check for the most part. A muggy day despite the lack of significant cloud coverage. Drier air will gradually move over the region today with the passage of a cold front. This feature will keep temps a bit cooler into the start of the coming week. A warming trend returns by mid week along with increased convective activity, as moist flow spreads back over the area.

A line of slow moving thunderstorms pushed through shortly after 3:30pm yesterday. This line also produced some gusty winds along with frequent downpoars. An outflow boundary pushed south from the main line. And even these showers started to change their direction of movement from initially N-S flow, to W-E flow as they increased in intensity, capturing the westerly steering flow aloft. This line gradually moved out of the area just before 6pm. However, there was a pop-up showered that pushed in from the west just before 6:30pm. A very faint rainbow formed along the western horizon during this heavy shower, as the sun started to come out. More thunderstorms possible today.

A pop-up shower pushed through yesterday morning shortly before 9am, lasting for about an hour, dropping 0.14 inches of precip from a heavy downpour lasting over 20 minutes (0.20 inches of precip since then). The clouds started to break out by mid-day. But another round of lgt-mod rain pushed through around 7pm, lasting for several hours. More heavy rain last night and earlier this morning, ending not too long ago.

The main line of storms yesterday pushed through around 12:30pm, bringing occasional gusty winds and some heavy downpours. We also had some isolated showers push through during the evening, up until about 9:30pm. 0.30 inches of rain between 12:30 and 3:15pm. An additional 0.23 inches of precip fell after that time period. We missed out on any significantly severe weather, but radar indicated several tornadoes across west Michigan yesterday. It looked like that same cell that spawned a tornado down in Allegan County, also produced one closer to home, down near Edmore.

We had fairly pretty sunset with a pink coloration to the sky, revealing the high cirrostratus deck present, along with altocu and dark stratocu moving quickly east through the area. Less cloud coverage this morning then yesterday, as cool and dry Canadian High pressure continues to settle over the region. A mix of sun and clouds yesterday with some pretty good vertical extent to the CU that formed during the afternoon hours. N-S flow brought about some showers closer to the thumb, but nothing in this neck of the woods. Dark cloud bases started to flatten out later in the day past max heating, and comprised of more of the stratocu variety, before clearing out shortly after sunset. Had to coax a stink bug out of the funnel of my gauge this morning. He was moving real slow, under the influence of these cooler temps.

Several lines of thunderstorms pushed through after 9 PM last night with light rain falling for much of the night, accounting for the relatively low amount of precip. On and off flashes of lightning from storms off to the west, but most of the cells weakened significantly as they crossed over into Newaygo Co. Clouds thickened up throughout the day yesterday, with building cu and stratocu moving in during the late afternoon hours. Very muggy and hot (despite breezy conditions), with temps rising into the upper 80s. More rain expected today. Side note: Off and on power outage between 7 and 9 PM last night. Not sure if that had anything to do with the storms or not.
9/8/2016 8:00 AM 2.41 0.0 0.00 0.0 M Numerous showers and thunderstorms rolled through the area yesterday and late last night, ending right around 3 AM. Training thunderstorms (accompanied by high precipitable water values), also helped drop the high precip total reported this morning. Rain started shortly before 10 AM yesterday with frequent breaks in the showers in the afternoon. Even a few peaks of sunshine in the afternoon, which further helped the instability settled over the area. Low stratus/stratus fractus decks were present for much of the day. Heavier (torrential) rain, moved through between 7 and 9 PM last night, accounting for much of our recorded rainfall. Biggest break in the action came between 5 and 7 PM. At 5 PM I recorded 0.15 inches of rainfall (2.26 inches from 5 PM til 3 AM), so this goes to show how much precip accounted for the storms that came through during the evening hours after 7 PM. Flooding in some spots around the area, but for the most part this morning, all the rain has soaked into the ground fairly well. The water level of the pond is up, which is a good sign for the other ponds and lakes around the area. At 8 AM, skies are overcast with low stratus decks remaining in place over the area. Temps are a bit warmer then yesterday's report, hovering above 70°. Humidity values remain high, so no significant drying out expected until later on in the weekend, with the passage of this next system.

An active weather pattern has moved out of the area, and high pressure ridging is building in. First line of heavy showers pushed through between 1 and 2 PM with some heavy rain and gusty winds accompanying this line. Another batch pushed in behind the main line between between 2 and 4 PM. After 4 PM we had some clearing over the area, with the low cu starting to clear out of the area, revealing some altocu and altostratus cloud decks above. A very light shower came through around 5:30 PM, accompanied by dark cu cloud bases. Witnessed a half rainbow up by Big Rapids yesterday just before 7 PM, associated with the last bit of precip pushing down from the NW. Significant clearing during the late evening hours, with a bright Waxing Gibbous moon present revealing the bit of scattered clouds rolling out of the area.

Based on radar we have a few showers around the area, which can be seen just off to the NW, where darker clouds are quickly moving in. However, this line is just missing us at this point. Still a chance for precip later in the day, so we'll see. Another dry and sunny day yesterday with a few cumulus clouds moving in later in the afternoon. Temps were noticeably warmer then in previous days rising into the upper 70s. Some ground fog in spots during the overnight hours, particularly over by the Little Muskegon. Bright Waxing Gibbous moon observed last night, almost a full moon at this point.

Humidity values still quite high, but that should be dropping throughout the day as we start to dry out. FROPA occurred late in the day yesterday with an increase in winds and slowly decreasing temps. Chaotic sky for much of the day with stratus and stratocu being the predominant cloud forms. A bit of altocu present as well. Precip reported this morning was from a heavy shower that moved through between 11 AM and 11:30 AM yesterday. Another line of showers moved through earlier this morning, but it appears most of that precip missed us.

Temps much cooler then previous days (2nd day after FROPA), hovering near 46°. Clear skies with some cirrus and cirrostratus present, mainly off to the south and west. Mostly sunny yesterday up until the afternoon hours when thick lines of stratocu (with dark and flat bases), moved thru the area. More clearing toward sunset with some dark altocu present amid a light pinkish-red colored sky. A nearly full bright moon last night with some scattered clouds present. High pressure ridge continues to build in giving us some dry weather. A shift in the pattern in the coming days with more rain expected by the weekend. The birches and a few maples are already starting to turn color in spots. A sign that Fall is on its way.

Temps were in the upper 40s earlier this morning, so we're warming up quickly. Partly cloudy skies yesterday with stratocu moving in during the afternoon hours. Dark cumuliform bases as well. High cirrostratus pushing in by the late afternoon/evening hours with a sundog visible around 6:30 PM, just above the western horizon. A shift in the pattern expected with increasing clouds expected today as precip chances increase into the coming weekend.

The ground is thoroughly saturated from several rounds of precip moving thru the area last night. First batch moved in between 9 and 10 PM, with frequent lightning and heavy rain. 0.37 inches of precip recorded from that first line of storms. 0.46 inches of precip since that time. Based on radar, it appears this secondary push came thru after 5 AM, lasting until about 7:45 AM or so. Mix of sun and clouds yesterday with mainly high cirrostratus present for much of the day. Thicker stratocu moved in around sunset, associated with convective activity pushing in from the west. A bright orange full moon observed behind the thick low clouds along the eastern horizon, just after sunset.

Mostly clear skies for much of the day yesterday with some fair wx Cu rolling in (CL1). Longer lines of stratocu (CL4, CL8) rolled over the area from the west closer to sunset.
9/19/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Clear skies with a touch of BR present this morning. Temps near 50 degrees. Mix of sun and clouds yesterday after the fog broke out shortly after 8 AM. Cu (CL2) built up within a few hours followed by Stratocu (CL4, CL8) developing shortly after noon. Some high Ci and Cs (CH1, CH2) was present as well, hiding behind the low Cu decks. Temps rose into the upper 70s, well above average for this time of year. Warm weather expected to prevail for much of this week, before a bit of a shift in the pattern into next week. More seasonable temps expected by that time.

Temps in the mid 50s. But the sun is starting to peak through the stratus deck, so this fog will be burning off shortly. Mostly sunny early in the day yesterday with lines of As (CM1) and Ac (CM6), moving through during the late afternoon hours. Even a bit of low ragged St and Cu accompanied the isolated showers spreading over the area in the evening. No rain to report in this neck of the woods. Another warm day with temps reaching into the upper 70s.

Chaotic with predominantly Ac present at the moment (CM9), especially covering the eastern horizon. A bit of ragged Cu and St as well (CL7), off to the west. Radar shows a slightly bowed line of thunderstorms hitting the shore of Lake Michigan at the moment. A few showers spreading into Mecosta Co, but most of the precip has missed us to the north. Temps in the upper 50s, calm winds and VIS is unrestricted. Mostly sunny yesterday with a few Ci clouds passing by (CH1). Another warm day with temps almost hitting 80°.

Precip recorded is from a heavy line of thunderstorms which pushed through yesterday morning between 9 and 11 AM. Nimbostrat mixed in with cu fractus provided for a very dark sky for much of the morning accompanying this precip (CM7, CL7). Frequent thunder heard with this line along with some downpours. Clearing of the low clouds later in the day yesterday with Altocu and Cirrostrat present during the evening hours.

Today marks the Equilux, the first day after Equinox where we'll see exactly 12 hours of sunlight and darkness. Altocu and Altostrat moved out of the area shortly after the obs yesterday. Clear sky prevailed for much of the afternoon hours with significant cooling after sunset.

A bit of precip to report this morning from scattered showers and a few thunderstorms moving through the area last night. Not sure when the precip ended, but based on the radar the last bit of precip just ended nearly an hour ago. Mod RA started shortly after 11 PM last night. Cloudy skies yesterday with mid-high clouds present, mainly Altocu and some Cirrus/Cirrostrat moving through later in the evening. A red sky at sunset. A bit of a cooling trend with this latest FROPA, before another warm up expected later in the week.

Temps once again in the upper 40s this morning similar to yesterday's obs. A bit of precip to report from a brief shower pushing through between 4 and 4:30 PM. Dark Cu and Sc observed, with some fairly good vertical extent to some of the isolated lake effect showers that developed later in the afternoon. Even some hail fell in some of the stronger cells up by Big Rapids. Very breezy conditions with gusts between 30 and 40 MPH at times. Wind speeds calmed down significantly after sunset, following the scattering out of the low cloud that was present over the area yesterday.
