Mixed types of precip on and off again along with occasionally windy conditions during the last 24 hours made it very difficult to obtain accurate depth measurements. We had periods of all snow, all sleet, snow pellets, and mixed sleet and snow. The SWE emptied from the rain gauge for the past 24 hours is accurate (0.13" SWE emptied at noon, 0.27" at 5:30 pm, and 0.15 at OBS this morning for a total SWE of 0.55") as is the SWE from the core sample of total snow and ice (core sample depth of 8.0") on the ground at OBS this morning. Snow depth, however, both new and at time of OBS, is truly a best estimate from several measurements in several locations, including a snow board during the 24 hour period. |

There is no way to know how much additional snow accumulated during the last 24 hours. It snowed for the better part of the day, but we also had wind gusts up to 26 mph. It was a very dry windblown snow that didn't even seem to accumulate on the porch all that much. I have drifts on the north side of our house that are up to 21 inches deep. No areas, however that have been swept completely clean. I am using my total of 8 inches from yesterday as an estimate for my total for today, as I do not think any melting had occurred prior to 8 am this morning. |

Two SWRs were filed. 2-day rain total of 2.49 inches. The total area of the snow drift in front of my house has been been drastically reduced in size but still measures 5" in depth. In spite of all the rain, we have three or four patches of snow in our yard and in the woods beside our house as well as a few patches of snow visible on the surrounding hillsides. Currently overcast skies with fog. Very strong lines of thunderstorm passed first just to the west of us and then a couple of hours later just to the east of us, but we did not get any heavy precip at our location. We are still way behind on rainfall for the later part of August and all of September.

Broken clouds at time of observation. Happy to report substantial rain during the night and early a.m. hours from two seperate thunderstorms. Also small hail somewhere around 4 a.m. with the second storm. |
