Terrific winds blew rain off roof and through trees like ocean spray. Could barely see past front yard. Tapered off rather quickly and was able to get to gauge for .50" reading in 10 minutes (3"/hour). Probably was more, considering the straight-line wind blowing so hard ("angel's share"). Overcast in the morning, becoming very dark with distant thunder 0900. Rain began 0905, moderate to heavy til after noon. Lost satellite TV for about 15 minutes, and lights flickered momentarily. A little lightning, and thunder mostly rumbling. Dumped .96" at 1000, then another 1.02" at 1300. Mostly cloudy by 1500. Dense fog and 70.7° at obs time. |
