Raining, 32° 24hr: 27/44° An ice glaze on everything, porch railing, patio lights, lawns, and cars. The snowboard was a compressed mass of ice, snow, and sleet, weighted down with rain. The snow depth is exact; no rounding. Took a while to find all my "winter" equipment this morning, even though I'd gotten it all together in October! Been using the extra outer gauge for a while, but had to find the metal ruler with metric tenth inch marking, the metal rimmed 1 lb coffee can for punching into the snow/ice on the board, a plastic ruler for scraping down the ice on the inside of the gauge (considerable, this morning!), and a pyrex measuring cup with a spout for careful transfer to the smaller, inner tube when my hands are cold and slippery. Well, we've all been whining about how warm December has been; a taste of winter today! (DR-observer reported a 5" depth; likely 0.5" but for now set to NA) |

Will take the SWE later and report tomorrow for SWE Monday, since at these temps there won't be any melting. (MG note: based on above, changed 0.61" prcp to 1.04". Light rain, 65° 24hr: 65/71° Approx half of the rain fell early afternoon & the second batch before sunrise. Thankfully, the first round was light rain to moisten up the top layer of the soil so this much needed rain didn't just run off. |
