Another wild weather-mans delight night on McCully Mountain, as the cold front passed with distant lightning at least 6+ flashes (no thunder). Wild gusts to 30 mph at 1:14am from the north (unusual for this storm brought winds from the south) Barometer fell to 29.27"Hg at 12:46am it is the lowest pressure reading since Dec. 11 2014 when the pressure fell to 29.09"Hg. Yesterday's high came at midnight, this mornings low was 39, today's high probably will not reach the earlier high reached at midnight.

Yesterday's high was 46°f , this morning's low was 31°f Snow began shortly before midnight and has snowed off and on during the early morning, Snow came down rather hard about 2:am. When it started back up it looked like rain & snow mixed as it was falling fairly quickly. We could have had more than 5" of snow if it had been a dry snow. Instead we have a very wet snow on the ground with a ratio of 5/1. Snow has started up again as I add this message. Wind is out of the west at 8mph, barometric pressure is steady at near 30.00"Hg. Snow fell during two separate showers yesterday consisting mostly of rain & snow mixed but with flakes reaching the ground for a few moments each time and again in the wee hours of the morning with no accumulation. Yesterdays high was a real surprise as the temperature remained near 40°f then within an hour shot up to 49°f at 9:43am. then slipped back down to 40°f or below the rest of the day coming to rest with a low of 33°f for the low this morning. |

Tiny hail began just after midnight(less than .125"or 1/8"), followed by several snow showers during the night. At 4:00am we had a heavy snow storm. But it never accumulated. I have never in 30+ years here on McCully Mountain (1667 ft.) seen it snow so fast and furious. The air temperature was 32°f the ground temp. being 45°f quickly melted the already slushy snow so that at ob time 7:30am only a trace remained above the densest grass clumps. Had the ground temperature not been so warm we should of received 1-2 inches of snow in the heavy shower. After all we did get .52 inches of precipitation since midnight, if it was a few degrees colder it could have fallen at more than 5 inches of snow. |

WOW WHAT A NIGHT!! 8:15 pm - 8:22 pm Largest hail we have ever seen in Oregon 3/4 inch (.75") Thunder heard fairly close-by, lightning or thunder seen or heared 4-6 times. Largest hail begin to fall before rain and continued for about 7 minutes. After largest hail stopped. I gathered samples so I could measure carefully and accurately after placing in the freezer for a quick freeze. Reexamined hail to find the largest 3/4 inch and a few others were fused together looking like 3 egg yolks placed in a small container where they could fit snugly together. At 8:47 a heavy down pour with possibly small hail but not confirmed because of darkness, but it did sound like ice falling hitting wood and the sides of the house and windows. Rain came down at a rate of 3.47"/hour (according to our Davis Weather unit)just after the largest hail fell. Storm pretty much over by 8:59 pm. Yesterday's high 51°f the low today was 40°f. |

Mystery solved the east winds have deposited pollen in trillions leaving larger amounts on our car then ever seen before.
The high temperature took a unusual turn last night as the pollen was falling jumping about 6°f in less than an hour to the high of 74°f for the day. The east winds last night can explain this. The low was 39°f. |

Certainly a spring day. Starting out at 9:12 am with a morning hail storm that pretty much covered the ground in 10 minutes, but with a ground temp° of 53°f, it melted off quickly except for places the hail had gathered. The largest sized at 1/4 inch. Radar showed only one blip of yellow on the screen. It seemed like it should be a sunny day. It lasted 14 minutes. During the fiercest part of the storm, several mallards and 2 wood ducks on the pond seemed frozen on the water not swimming about as ducks do, Taking cover? Just still in one spot not moving across the water. The high for the day of 47°f came at 2:12pm just before a gathering storm presented its fury with a gust front of a high wind gust of 30 mph. The heat of the day only produced the smallest of hail. and a cooling temp° of 39°f. leading to a low of 35°f this morning. |

This winter's stats of McCully Mountain: Winter started off with an early surprising November freeze. Considering the true days of winter started on December 22nd we had 8 days of sub-freezing mornings in December 2015, January 2016 had 8 days, February had only 4 days. March had just 3 days. With winter ending on March 20. Only 24 days were sub-freezing days this winter (31°f or less). The coldest day of the rain year did not even happened in winter, but in the fall. November 26 2015 the Temp° fell to 22°f. The temperature first hit below 31° on November 3rd and yesterday's low temperature of 29°f will probably be the last sub-freezing temp° of our current rain year 2015-2016. If we include all the days in winter 2015-2016 Fall and Spring we find the total of 45 days. |

In the month of April this year McCully Mountain has seen 15 days with measurable precipitation for a total of 5.39 inches. The most in 1 day was .78" (12am-12am) which turned into 1.08" The next day for (COCORAHS) on the 24rd. 5.39" is below normal so that we experienced the 10th driest April in 32 years that our records show. The average is 6.31". The most fell in 1993 with an even 13.00", the lowest amount was in was in April of 2004 with 3.36" This years amount actually tied the amount in 1986 5.39" The temperature this month has been extreme with a high of 84°f and a low of 29°f. The only significant weather were the two days in a row of thunderstorms on the 20th and 21st, and of course who can forget the "Pollen storm on the 7th. "Yesterday the high 65°f and a low of 41°f for the 1st day of May. Barometer reads 30.11 and slowly falling. The strongest wind was a gust to 13 mph from the NW at 11:44am. Totals for July 2016: Rain .84" the lowest on record was .03" in 2013, the highest on record was 3.44" in 2004. Temps high was 94°f on the 29th, the low was 42°f on the 4th, 5th, and 31st. The highest wind gust was 18 mph on the 8th. Other significant events was seeing a Black Bear take a walk along the edge of the pond, and a Bobcat took a goose for Breakfast. I'll be making a wall (8ft fence) to keep them all out. Jordan creek stopped flowing on the 30th. We need more rain. |

East winds are gusting at 16 mph. Already at just after 9am the temp is 81°f. The low temperature overnight was 63°f, that's 12° higher than yesterday's low.
