Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like another beautiful day in store. The AM temp was a chilly 41 degrees, no frost yet, so the flowers are still OK, We brought some into the house to over winter and plant next spring. The two wood stoves are cleaned along with the chimneys. Have yet to fire up the two LP furnaces, and since the new tank was installed, there could be air in the gas line. The oil in the Ranger was changed and the Guardiann is next on the list. We(with the help of Eli, our Amish neighbor) moved the huge gas grill that has been in the garage forever, down to the old cat area under the deck. Now if the power goes out, we can cook since it has a gas burner. (The stove top is not on back up power like most of the other appliances.)
10/2/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another day like all the rest, cool at 41 degrees with bright sunshine and a few fluffy clouds floating by. The first few fall days have been absolutly beautiful!
10/3/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Going to be another beautiful fall day with a starting temp of 43 degrees under a sunny blue sky.
10/4/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A bit warmer today under an overcast sky with a temp of 47 degrees. No rain expected until perhaps Thursday. It is again quite dry around here.
10/5/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another mostly overcast, but warmer day with a temp of 47 degrees. It is supposed to clear up later today. A little sunshine will bring these cold temps up to normal again. Much too early to be so chilly. We have had a fire every day with the inside house temp at 66 degrees first thing in the morning. We are burning the small oak tree we cut down in the yard last spring. Time to go out into the woods!!
10/6/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A quite foggy day with a temp of 47 degrees. It appears that it will be sunny once the fog burns off. Supposed to be a little warmer, into the 70's today with less wind. The wind made it seem much colder than the low 60's we've had for the past few days. A little sunshine will feel good!
10/7/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful day in store here with a warm temp of 52 degrees under a clear blue sky. Gone to LaCrosse all day shopping. Did not pay full price for anything except some socks that were badly needed. Starting to get a bit cloudy and rain is expected thie evening. We can sure use it. The trees are turning much more around here than to the north. Must be the draught, or the WI dept of tourism has not been out and about lately! Typical government bureaucracy, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.
10/8/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An overcast day with a temp of 55 degrees. Does not appear that we will get any rain out of this stystem as it is all far to the north as in the past.
10/9/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cooler morning at 52 degrees under an overcast sky. It did warm up yesterday to almost 70 degrees with a little sunshine. Supposed to do the same today.
10/10/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A few degrees colder today at 40 degrees, but there is bright sunshine in an October blue sky. This should be a perfect fall day for a football game or other outdoor activities like wood cutting and leaf mulching.
10/11/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M On the way to a beautiful warm fall day with a temp of 52 degrees. Expected to get above 80 degrees this PM before a cold front passes tomorrow. No rain, though! I already hung out my sheets thinking perhaps this is my last opportunity to do that until spring! Yes, I do have no less than two working clothes dryers, but prefer sheets that are hung out on the line. I do feel for my Amish neithbor who was hanging out her wash in the middle of last winter when it was 10 degrees out. (And she has 7 little children, two in diapers!) I guess I don't have it so bad after all!!
10/12/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still warm today at 58 degrees. Yesterday did not get to the 80 degrees oreducted, but was a beautiful day except for a strong south wind. Today is mostly cloudy.
10/13/2015 7:00 AM T M M M M Not as cold as predicted today at 49 degrees. It is still quite windy, but not as bad as yesterday. Some places had gusts of 40 mph. There were a few sprinkles in the late afternoon, but not enough to wet the ground. It is getting very dry again, especially with these windy days. Living in the woods one always has to fear fire. I remember as a child living on a farm, some dumb hunter set a tree on fire to smoke out a squirrel, and almost burned the entire woods.
10/14/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The coldest day yet at just 36 degrees. There was frost in the low lying areas, but none here. The flowers look a little singed, though. I guess summer is over for another year. Don't like to think of what is ahead with winter and cold and snow in probably another month. We have had measurable snow here in late October.
10/15/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overcast today with a couple of rain drops on the deck. It is much warmer at 49 degrees. The really cold is coming on Fri. night. A hard frost is predicted. The flowers already look half dead, so this will definitely be the end of our growing season. Still finding squash on the vines and the deer have figured out that the electricity has been turned off and jumped into the garden. There are still raspberries both ripe and green that will no doubt freeze.
10/16/2015 7:00 AM T M M M M There were a few drops on the deck yesterday AM then later on it cleard off and the sun came out for most of the afternoon. It became very windy, too. We do have an annemometer on the roof, but the ravages of time have taken a toll and it no lomnger communicates with the unit in the house. No way do I go up on the roof anymore!! Today starts with a temp of 38 degrees and sunshine in a clear blue sky. Supposed to be quite cool for the weekend, in fact the first killing frost is predicted for tonight. That is actually a bit later than normal if you believe the TV weather man.
10/17/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today nature said, "The end of the summer growing season", with a temp of just 27 degrees. Actually the plants don't look that bad considering the temp. It is a partly cloudy sky in the east, starting to clear from the west. Perhaps it won't be such a bad weekend afterall. Still hauling wood from the four trees cut down near the house. Plenty of wood for a long time since two of the ash trees were pretty large and solid wood to boot.
10/18/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another rather cold morning at 29 degrees with bright sunshine in a cloudless October sky. Hope it isn't as windy as the past few days have been. Very hard to rake or mulch leaves when the wind blows them all away! I have never seen so many leaves or pine cones. Also there are many walnuts again. I picked up only a few hickory nuts, that is what the squirrels did not get. They were down very early, some so green even I could not break off the thick hulls, and the animals gave up chewing through them.
10/19/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like another beautiful day in store with bright blue skies and sunshine. The AM temp was 58 degrees. This week is supposed to be warm. Perhaps the start of Indian Summer, although there are plenty of leaves left to fall around here. We have been mulching, and cannot stay ahead of the number falling every day.
10/20/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A very warm day at 56 degrees under partly overcast skies. Yesterday was beautiful except for the south wind. This entire week is supposed to be milder than normal. Good, since we will burn less wood!
10/21/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A mostly sunny day with a temp of 53 degrees. No rain in sight and the drought has been espanded to cover a larger area. The ground is very dry, with little hope for more rain before the snow flies. Most of the leaves have fallen except for the oaks that are just starting to turn red. The colors did not last very long, and were not very pretty because the trees all turned at different times, then the leaves fell off.
10/22/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Got up early to see the meteor shower (it never lives up to expectations). It is a cool, 40 degrees, and clear day with bright sunshine in an October blue sky. The two bright planets to the south east were a spectactular sight. I must brush up on my astronomy. Had a class back in the 60's. When the children were home we had a telescope and used to do a lot of star gazing, even built an observatory on the hill. Never made the telescope to go into it, although we do have the mirrors.
10/23/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An overcast with a brisk wind and a warmer temp of 50 degrees. At 0700 the sky was very black in the east, but no rain as usual. It appears there is some rain down in NE Iowa that may or may not arrive here.
10/24/2015 7:00 AM 0.34 M M M M The first real rain so far this month. It is good to see a little green in places and the fire danger lowered a bit. Too late to benefit any crops as most are harvested already. It got warmer overnight, so the AM temp was a toasty 56 degrees with a light rain falling from an overcast sky.
10/25/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A more seasonal temp today at 34 degrees under a bright blue October sky with sunshine.
10/26/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like another beatiful day in store with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. The AM temp was a seasonal 38 degrees. We are suppoosed to get the remainder of the hurricane laater in the week with a lot of rainfall. Hopefully that will be the case, but if the past is any indication, we will get next to nothing.
10/27/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still warm today at 45 degrees under an overcast sky. Supposed to rain later today and into tomorrow, then turn cold, probably for good!!
10/28/2015 7:00 AM 1.53 M M M M At last some measurable rainfall! Probably too late to help any crops, but good for the earth just the same. It started to rain around 4PM and is still raining. We are thankful that it is a gentle rain, so there is no flooding, and the road won't wash out. The AM temp was a cooler 47 degrees, but not really bad for the end of October. The cold is coming soon enough! I can remember many late October snows, especially the one when we were trying to put a roof on this house in 1998. I also remember driving home from Platteville from my friend's fathers funeral in 2006 when the roads were very slippery and the snow was coming down in clumps.
10/29/2015 7:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Yesterday turned out to be a pretty miserable day. It almoist cleared off, then darkened and rained with a litle snow toward mid afternoon. There was a nasty NW wind to add to the misery. Today it is misting with a few flakes mixed in. The AM temp was a frosty 39 degrees.
10/30/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A bit warmer today at 40 degrees under overcast skies. It is supposed to rain most of tomorrow, but it really does feel like it will rain soon! We can certainly use the moisture since we have had none to speak of this month prior to this week.
10/31/2015 7:00 AM 0.29 M M M M It rained all night, but did not produce much moisture. I guess be thankful for what you got! It is still raining lightly, and from the radar image, it appears that it will soon be out of here. The next couple of days look like the "return of summer" with temps into the 70's. Indian Summer??
11/1/2015 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M This is going to be a beautiful day starting with a warm temp of 43 degrees with bright sunshine in a cloudless blue sky. Predictions of up to 70 degrees by tomorrow or Tues. Glad I did not wind up the clothes line last week!!
11/2/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M More of the same today with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky with a temp of 54 degrees.
11/3/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M On the way to another beautiful sunny day with a warm temp of 47 degrees and bright sunshine. This could last all fall, but I know it won't last past Thursday. In fact the predicted high for Sat. is today's low.
11/4/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A mostly overcast day with a warm temp of 55 degrees and a brisk wind. Not supposed to rain, though until tomorrow night. We shall see!!
11/5/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is going to be the end of our beautiful fall weather. This AM it was a warm 55 degrees with a clear blue sky and bright sunshine. There is quite a breeze blowing, though.
11/6/2015 7:00 AM 0.39 M M M M We got some more much needed moisture last evening without a severe storm, hail, or flooding. It was a very narrow band of storms that did produce a lot of rain in a short time. It did rain hard enough to knock out the sat reception for a short while, but there doesn't appear to be any washing here on the hill. Have not seen the road yet, but it probably did wash a bit. The AM temp was cooler at 43 degrees, just normal for this time of year. It also looks like the sun will come out shortly.
11/7/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Back to reality today with a seasonal temp of 33 degrees under a clear blue sky with plenty of sunshine. Should be a good day to do outside work and watch WI football this PM.
11/8/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M There was frost on the ground today with a temp of just 30 degrees, but there was bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. Yesterday remained quite cool here, I don't think we got much over 45 degrees all day and there was a breeze making it feel even colder. Eventually we will get used to this colder weather and the 40'w will seem warm in January!
11/9/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A few degrees cooler today at 33 degrees with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. Should be a good day to finish up the yard work and maybe get up on the spa roof to remove about two feet of pine needles and cones. I have never, in the 18 years we've been here, seen as many pine cones as there are this year. They make excellent fire starters because they are covered in pitch that burns like crazy!
11/10/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M This will probably be the last warm, sunny day for the season. The temp this AM was a chilly 29 degrees, one degree below the normal for this time of year. Believe it or not we have most of the outside fall work done for the season. Still cutting wood for the stoves until the snow flies. Not looking forward to putting the snow blade on the Ranger which makes it very awkward to get around with it.
11/11/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M This will probably be the last nice warm day until spring. The AM temp was a mild 42 degrees under a partly cloudy sky and some sunshine. Just remembered that I have bags of tulip, crocus, etc bulbs to plant before it freezes, so better get at it today! Last year it froze hard almost overnight and I never did plant them.
11/12/2015 7:00 AM 0.67 M M M M It started raining around 4PM and became heavy later around 8 PM. We could use the moisture, since the ground is very dry from a lack of rain in July, Aug and Sept. Today is warm at 44 degrees with a strong gusty wind. It is supposed to get colder and winder as the day goes on.
11/13/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Back to colder today at just above freezing (33 degrees), but the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. Promises of a warmer week end again, perhaps above 60 degrees. Maybe El Nino is real!! I remember the late 80's, early 90's, when we had a few mild winters, so much so that I was able to hang out my sheets at Christmas time in Milwaukee. Now when you live close to the big lake, it is always cold in the spring, expecially with a NW wind blowing off the very cold water of Lake Michigan.
11/14/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another crisp, cool, sunny day with a temp of just 32 degrees. Some white frost in shady places on the grass. Today promises to warm into the high 50's with perhaps a 60 degree mark by Sunday. Very warm for this time of year. In fact, we sometimes have measurable snow on the ground by now. I can wait!!
11/15/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Warmer again today at 39 degrees; not bad for the middle of November! The sky is a bright blue and the sun is shining. What's not to like!!
11/16/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Unseasonably warm today at 51 degrees under a mostly overcast sky with a south wind. This is not going to last forever! I fear today is the day to put the snow blade on the Ranger (not a fun job), but a necessary one if we want to get out of here after it snows.
11/17/2015 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M The rain has inreaased since I first got up at 0700. There was only about 0.02" overnight (0.5 in the gauge last PM), but it has definitely picked up the pace now. We could use the 2" or so predicted for this area. It is still warm this AM at 49 degrees under an overcast sky with rain falling.
11/18/2015 7:00 AM 1.14 M M M M The first time for quite some time I have had to messure rain in the large tube!
11/19/2015 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M A little rain fell off and on most of the day, but it remained mostly cloudy with a warm temp well into the 50's again. Today was a wake up call with the temp at freezing and a strong west wind although the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. It is only going to get worse. By Sat we could have up to 8" of snow. Time to put the plow on the Ranger if we expect to go anywhere!!
11/20/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is the coldest one yet at the normal temp for this date which is 26 degrees. It will take getting used to, I guess. Yesterday was windy from the west, but the sun was out making it seem warmer. Did some outside work in preparation for the snow we are expecting later this PM. Some say we could get up to 10" or more before Sat morning. We did get the plow on the Ranger- very difficult for someone who hates confined spaces to get down on the ground under a low slung machine!! I did get the two nuts on the bolts that hold the plow onto the frame of the Ranger. Not a job I enjoy.
11/21/2015 7:00 AM M 4.0 0.40 4.0 M We got our first measurable snowfall starting around 4PM and was still snowing past 10PM. The AM temp was 25 degrees, but because the ground was not frozen, the snow did not stick right away. The snow on the side walk was actually heavy and wet in spite of the cold temp today. We gave not gotten our usual 10 bags of salt for the driveway either, but do have some left over from last winter.
11/22/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Winter has arrived here with a temp of just 15 degrees. With snow on the ground, it probably won't get much warmer today. By Thanksgiving it is supposed to be maybe ino the 60's. It is much too early to have this much snow on the ground until April or May, although when I was growing up, it always snowed on my mother's birthday, Nov. 12th, and there was always quite a lot of snow on Thanksgiving that did stay around all winter. Snow was gone by April, though!!
11/23/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Quite a bit warmer today at 24 degrees under an overcast sky. There was a young deer wandering around close to the house this AM. Since the corn in the feeder was gone (there were many visitors just before dark) so she was probably eating out of the open bird feeder on a tree. The bucks bit the dust earlier, one during bow season and one yesterday. He was shot on the neighbor's property and wandered here to die
11/24/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much of the snow that fell over the week end melted with the 36 degree temp yesterday. Today is starting out warm at 31 degrees (thermometer is in the sun) at 0800 this AM with plenty of sunshine. Supposed to be warm through Thanksgiving, then rain all day and later turn to the frozen stuff as the temps drop. Sure glad we have no travel plans!
11/25/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another rather warm day at 36 degrees, the normal high for two days from now!! Most of the snow has melted, and the rest will probably disappear in the next couple of days. Actually it was rather pretty here with the stark contrast of dark trees minus their leaves and the bright white snow on everything. Winter is really quite beautiful if you don't have to work in it. I used to ski in the Kettle Moraine, and that was just a magical place in winter and had the best x-country ski trails anywhere!
11/26/2015 7:00 AM 0.32 M M M M An overcast day threatening to rain at any time. The AM temp was a warm 47 degrees. The grass is turning green, and it looks like March around here. If only...
11/27/2015 7:00 AM 1.05 0.0 M M M It rained steadily all day, hard at times. It never got below freezing, so as far as I know there was no sleet or snow. The AM temp was a chilly 31 degrees, still above the normal for this time of year.
11/29/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A mostly sunny sky has given way to mostly overcast and very chilly, 18 degrees this AM. It is supposed to warm up to almost 40 by afternoon. They have moved the rain/snow forecast up to tonight and tomorrow. We are right on the line between frozen precip and rain. Hope for the latter.
11/30/2015 7:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Woke up to a white world again today. Since the temp was 32 degrees, the snow, slush, sleet, whatever you call it was soft and mushy. This would be a mess if it froze, but the temp is going up now; already at 33 degrees. I left the inner tube off the rain gauge because I did not want it to freeze, so I still have to melt the slushy mixture stuck in the funnel. It did rain some in the night, so what was in the bottom of the large tube was rain (0.01"). It appears to be raining now.
12/1/2015 7:00 AM 0.53 0.0 M M M This time the precip fell as rain. All but a few scattered patches of snow has melted. The AM temp was a warm 34 degrees under an overcast sky. It rained all day yesterday and much of the night, but did not produce much moisture It is not raining now, but is still very overcast and threatining. As long as the temps stay above freezing and it doesn't snow, we will be just fine.
12/2/2015 7:00 AM M 1.2 0.08 1.2 M Woke up to a world covered in white. The temp was a mild 28 degrees and it was snowing some fine flakes from an overcast sky. It will all melt if the temps reach above freezing as predicted. In fact it is supposed to be in the 50's by Saturday. No white Christmas this year?? Temps are expected to stay mild for some time now, so that is a possibility. OK by me, but I feel for those who make thier living from snow!! Melted the snow in the top cone of the gauge to get the melted value. Looks to be about right from my past experience of weighing it.
12/3/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another unseasonably warm day with a temp of 34 degrees under a mostly overcast sky. This weather is unbelievable; can hope for a warm winter.
12/4/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M More seasonable today at 26 degrees, but the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. The cresent moon was beautiful hanging in the still darkened sky at 7:00. People who sleep late do miss such a sight. The night sky is so interesting this time of year!
12/5/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful day ahead with very mild temps, a clear blue sky, and bright sunshine. The last traces of snow will melt today as it is expected to reach 50 degrees. All next week is expected to be much above normal. The day started out at 31, with the ground covered in frost. It's good our first winter with all gas heat is starting out mild, so hopefully it will last until spring.
12/6/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Very thick fog this AM with a temp of 33 degrees under what appears to be an overcast sky. Yesterday remained sunny most of the morning, then became mostly cloudy the rest of the day. Temps did not get as warm as the 50's here. Regardless, it was much warmer than it should be for early December. A white Christmss is sort of out of the picture right now. This coming week is supposed to be warm again.
12/7/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An overcast day with a temp of 38 degrees, well above the normal high for this date. It is supposed to remain warm all week. Yesterday did not get as warm because the clouds rolled in and there was no sunshine. Looks like today could be a repeat. Not complaining, though!! I do feel sorry for the ski hills that made snow, and now it is all melted.
12/8/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still above freezing today at 34 degrees with a little fog and overcast skies. Today is supposed to be warm again with no seasonable weather predicted until the weekend.
12/9/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The AM temp started out at just 32 degrees under a sunny sky, the first in a long time. Today is shaping up to be a beautiful day. We need to appreciate the warmth that will not stick around much longer.
12/10/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was unseasonably warm again this AM at 41 degrees. It did break the record for Dec. 10th of 56 degrees in early afternoon. It started out as a beautiful sunnny day, but turned cloudy in early afternoon and later rained for a few houirs. The temps fortunatly stayed above freezing. There is some cold weather on the way in a day or two. No word if we will have a white Christmas.
12/11/2015 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M M M A brief rain shower after lunch produced a small amount of moisture. Today is partly cloudy with a temp of 33 degrees. It is still supposed to be warm, but rainy through the week end. Beats the alternative of feet of snow and ice!
12/12/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A warmer day starting out at 38 degrees at 7:00 and already past 40 before 8AM.The skies are partly cloudy with some fog in the valleys.
12/13/2015 7:00 AM 0.96 0.0 M M M This is certainly wierd weather for Dec.! We had a thunder storm in the middle of the night, and it rained almost the whole night long. The AM temp was a toasty 41 degrees and still raining. Glad this was not snow or we would have had close to a foot by now!! The plow is still waiting....
12/14/2015 7:00 AM 2.43 0.0 M M M It rained all day and all night. The grass is green and the drought is over! The skies are mostly overcast, but there was some hint of sunshine behind all the clouds; very pretty since the whole world had a red glow. The AM temp was a toasty 54 degrees. Must be some kind of a record for Dec. 13! I hope we don't pay for this next spring!
12/15/2015 7:00 AM 0.11 0.0 M M M Today is much cooler, but probably the low of today, 35 degrees is close to what the high should be for this time of year. It did rain a little, a few brief showers, but most of the day was warm and overcast. Today is overcast, but starting to clear. If the sun does shine, it will be another nice day for December.15rh, just a week from the equinox which should be the coldest time of the year. I'll take this any day compared to the winter of 2008. By the way, I found it interesting that the high temp record for Dec. 14th was set back in 1979 (before the global warming frenzy!!)I can remember hanging out wash on Christmss back then, and it got dry, too! I must be one of the few alive that remembers beyond yesterday, but then I am not a fan of Al Gore!!
12/16/2015 7:00 AM T 0.0 M M M Warmer today at 41 degrees with a gusty south wind. It is supposed to get cold for two days, then back to mild again for the weekend. Can't believe this weather! The flag iris are up a good 4" already. They must think it is spring. I only wish!!
12/17/2015 7:00 AM 0.03 T M M M Today is a cold one at 27 degrees. Yesterday started out very warm, in the 50's and gradually dropped into the 30's by sunset. We had a little rain, some snow about 4PM. Because the ground was so warm, not much of the snow remains now. There is a trace on the deck which is colder. Some snow remained in the funnel of the gauge, and a little rain in the bottom.
12/18/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The first day without some form of precip for quite some time! Also it was the coldest, 17 degrees, it has been all season, probably the normal for mid December. Anyhow, it is nice to see the sun shining in a clear blue sky, but there is quite a gusty north wind making it feel much colder. Since it is supposed to warm up again, I will save the outside decorations, yes, I did not do them when it was nice, but will do some before Christmas just to get into the spirit of things.
12/19/2015 7:00 AM 0.01 T M T M Very winter-like this AM with a temp of 10 degrees and a dusting of snow on the ground. It is supposed to warm up and rain again, so I don't anticipate a white Christmas. No worry, I gave up skiing years ago when I tried to cut my leg off the first time. Perhaps snow shoes would be the answer, but don't really want to invest in something I probably would not use much.
12/20/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain or snow yesterday, but it did become overcast again. Today is much warmer with a starting temp of 30 degrees, what should be the normal high for this time of year. This is strange weather. There are still some traces of snow on the ground and Sat. remained very cold all day, never got out of the 20's. The rest of this week is supposed to remain mild. Go figure....
12/21/2015 7:00 AM 0.08 0.0 M M M It rained part of the night but produced less than 0.10" of moisture. I guess if it had been snow, there would have been over 6", so am greatful for not having to shove. The AM temp was a warm 39 degrees, probably warmer than the high should be for the first day of winter. The plants and grasses are totally confused, and think they should grow now!
12/22/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a very foggy, dreary day with temps into the 40's and a thick mist. We drove over to Prairie, and the ridge tops were totally fogged in. On the way home we drove up along the river (MIGHTY MISS) and there was little or no fog there. Some sunshine would be nice, however today is more of the same, but no fog. The AM temp was cooler at 34 degrees under an overcast sky.
12/23/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M This is incredable weather for December! The AM temp was a warm 40 degrees with thick fog at 7:00 which has turned to moderate rain now at 8:30. I don't think we are going to have a white Christmas this year!! I am not expecting skis or a sled, so don't mind a bit if there is no snow. Snow is pretty, though, and my flag iris have grown about 4" and are totaly confused by this warmth. The grass is green also. Very unusual.
12/24/2015 7:00 AM 0.51 T M T M It rained off and on much of the day and the fog was very thick on the ridge tops. The water in the bottom of the gauge was partially frozen. The high for the day here was 50 degrees, then it turned suddenly colder around supper time, and did snow for a bit after that. A small amount remains on the grass now. There was even a thunder storm in early evening, loud enough to be heard over the TV! The AM temp is a cool 28 degrees, still above the norm for December. It is supposed to get above freezing for the next few days, so the little amount of white will disappear although more is predicted for this PM and tomorrow.
12/25/2015 7:00 AM 0.03 0.1 0.03 M M We did get a white Christmas after all! It started snowing around 4PM when I took the dogs up into the field for their final walk, maybe for the season. Anyhow, the AM temp was 29 degrees allowing the snow to remain as it did snow most of the evening and was still snowing a bit at 10PM. Today is overcast, but again the temp is above normal for this date, and will probably rise to above freezing this afternoon. It is really quite pretty because the snow fell in large clumps that are now falling from the trees. Allowed the snow in the funnel to melt, but I don't think that amount (0.03") agrees with the total (0.08"). With < 1" total it is difficult to get it into the tube to weigh it.
12/26/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No precip today and the temp was 31 degrees, still above normal for winter. The skies are overcast and rain is expected, perhaps turning to snow later. Can't complain, as so far the winter has been more like spring. I just hope March does not bring tons of snow and cold!
12/27/2015 7:00 AM T 0.0 M M M Our "white" Christmas has disappeared! Temps yesterday that got into the 30's melted what little snow was on the ground. It was a cloudy, misty, and overcast day, not unlike those we had all week. A snow storm is supposed to get here tomorrow, so maybe things will brighten up around here. This gray, overcast, dreary day is very depressing!
12/28/2015 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The big storm is expected to hit any time now. It is 23 degrees under an overcast sky with a fierce NE wind gusting up to 40 mph. It feels quite cold since we are not used to winter yet, but I have a feeling that we are about to find out! I don't mind the snow, but do not like the ice and sleet that is expected along with it. Certainly glad I have no plans to go anywhere until Wed.!
12/29/2015 7:00 AM M 3.5 0.65 M M Yesterday was a strange day! It started to snow about 10AM and continued for maybe 3 hours, then turned to sleet, then rain for a while. Later in the PM (after 2:30 or so it started to snow again) at 4PM there was 2.4" of snow. It then continued until this AM when there was 3.5 inches and still a little was falling at 7AM. Unable to measure the rain, even tho the gauge was out because it filled up the funnel with snow that then froze and did not allow the rain to drip into the big tube. thus there was nothing there this AM. The sometimes 40MPH wind gusts did not help the situation either! Our first real snow storm of the season!!
12/30/2015 7:00 AM T T M M M Once winter came, it does not want to leave! It is snowing gently now, and spouse said it was raining a bit at 10PM wnen he took the dogs out. The AM temp was a warm 26 degrees under a very overcast sky, but no wind to speak of. Wish I did not have to go out today, but a trip to the Pharmacy is a must when you have a chronic condition like glaucoma, asthma, and type II diabetes.
12/31/2015 7:00 AM M 0.4 M M M It snowed for a couple of hours yesterday AM, then cleared off with a little sunshine, then it got cloudy again and eventually snowed a little. There was a light dusting on the sidewalk this AM. The skies are overcast again and the temp a chilly 20 degrees. That is still above the expected low normal of 12 degrees. Tonight is supposed to be in the single didgets.
1/1/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No snow, sleet, or rain! There is a brisk SW wind and a temp of 19 degrees, still above the seasonal normal for Jan 1st.
1/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No precip again and sunny skies with little wind. It has been some time since we have had sunshine in the AM! It is not expected to rise above freezing all week, but no snow until at least Wed.
1/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M NO snow, sleet, or rain again! The temp was 23 degrees under an overcast sky. Some sunshine would be nice. This kind of weather is very depressing. Light snow expected for mid-week.
1/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today dawned with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. So nice to see the sun after all the cloudy dreary weather of late. The AM temp was a chilly 17 degrees. Some snow expected on Wed.
1/5/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yet again, another sunny, but cold (15 degrees) day. It warmed up nicely yesterday, even melted some of the snow on the black top driveway. Enjoy it while it lasts because tomorrow is going to be warmer, but the start of another stretch of cloudy, overcast and snowy, rainy, perhaps sleety(? is that a word?) days. We are behind on snowfall, probably because we got most of the precip in the form of rain in Dec.
1/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another day without rain, sleet or snow. The AM temp was a warmer 23 degrees under partly cloudy skies that are going to get cloudy as the day progresses. We may get our first sub zero temps next week. Can hardly wait, although not bad considering there were none in December.
1/7/2016 7:00 AM 0.07 0.4 M M M Raining at 7:00 after snowing during the night. The skies are now overcast and the temp a warm 31 degrees. Seems like the rain is freezing on the sidewalk and places where the snow has been packed down. Not a good day to venture out!!
1/8/2016 7:00 AM 0.33 0.0 M M M A very unseasonably warm, foggy day with a temp of 36 degrees. At this rate the snow will be gone before it gets cold again. More snow is expected after the cool dewn on Sunday. Temps may get as cold as zero. We aren't used to that. Poor Seattle Sea Hawks playing in the twin cities! We're used to the cold, they are not, although Wilson played for Wisconsin a year before going pro. Hard to know who to root for in that game!
1/9/2016 7:00 AM M 0.3 M M M Today started out with a temp of 29 degrees with light snow falling. By 6PM temps are going to be in the single didgits (4 degrees or so). It is supposed to remain very cold through Tues with wind chills as low as -20 degrees, the coldest since last Feb. can't really complain since it is January and we have had no very cold weather so far this season!!
1/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is the coldest one since last Feb. at -3 degrees, but with a MW wind blowing 9 - 13 mph it feels like -13 degrees. Don't intend to be outside very much today except for dog walking and filling the bird feeders. Besides there are two NFC wild card play offs today that should be very good indeed. GO Pack!!
1/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M NO rain or snow, just bitter cold. THe AM temp today was -9 degrees, but there was little wind. More snow expected later this PM and overnight very cold temps. Tomorrow will be the coldest yet, with wind chills approaching -20 degrees. No plans to leave the house!! How about those Packers! Back to their old form again. Hope it lasts for a while. Felt so sorry for the Vikings yesterday, losing in such a terrible way after nearly beating a superior team.
1/12/2016 7:00 AM M 1.2 M M M A little warmer today, if you can call -2 degrees warm. It started to snow around noon and continued past 10 PM. Very light and fluffy, no moisture content that could be measured. It is really quite beautiful outside now, but oh so cold!!
1/13/2016 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M Another very cold day at -2 degrees with little wind so it did not feel too cold. It is supposed to warm up and snow again.
1/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A real heat wave today with a temp of 19 degrees, still below the normal of 26 for this date, which feels good after a few very cold days. The sky is overcast and there is little wind, making it rather pleasant out there compared to the past few days of near zero temps. More cold on the way for the week end.
1/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A gloomy overcast day with a warm temp of 25 degrees, one degree below the ave normal for this date. No precip yet, but freezing rain, snow, etc is expected. The cold will set in sometime tonight and last through the week end. Wind chills as low as -40 degrees could happen. I can hardly wait!!
1/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today dawned clear and cool at just 13 degrees. Saw the "morning star", I am guessing Venous. although I have not had astronomy since sophomore year in college. More years ago than I care to admit!! Not looking forward to the bitterly cold temps that are predicted for tonight and beyond.
1/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M In to the deep freeze today at -11 degrees. The temp wouldn't be so bad without the wind which makes it feel like -25 degrees or lower. I would not like to be out side for very long today. The dogs went out, did their business, and came back in in record time. No sniffing or fooling around to find the "perfect" spot! The birds are eating seeds at a fast pace, and the deer have cleaned out the feeder along with some of the birds that llike cracked corn like Jays and Cardinals. I actually saw 4 male cardinals yesterday. I remember tne day, not too long ago, when one could see as many as a dozen at the feeders. The bird count said the #s were down this year, but that there was a bigger variety of species than in other years, especially Bald Eagles.
1/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another brutally cold day with a temp of -12 degrees, although the wind seems to have died down. There is bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. It would be a beautiful day if it weren't for the cold temps. Lookling forward to spring in a couple of months.
1/19/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still in the deep freeze for one more day. The AM temp was a frigid -10 degrees with a wind chill of - 10 to - 25 degrees. It is supposed to warm up into the mid teens this PM with the possibility of snow this evening. A warm up into the teens and maybe 20's by tomorrow. Little snow is expected.
1/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much warmer today at 10 above zero. The dogs were willing to stay outside a little longer this AM, just like kids, they get a little "stir crazy" when cooped up indoors for a while! It appears that a little snow fell, at least on the deck, last evening. I don't think it was windy, so it must have been new snow, the light and fluffy kind. We are behind something like 5" in the amount of snowfall this winter. I'm sure it isn't over just yet! At least there is some snow on the gound to protect the planets from this bitter cold.
1/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little warmer today at 14 degrees with no snow or rain under an overcast sky. Some sunshine would be nice!
1/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A bit warmer today at 20 degrees under an overcast sky. A few flurries in the air. We could use a little new snow on top of the old that is getting gray and ugly.
1/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Somewhat colder today at just 9 degrees, but the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. Forgot to look for the 5 planets this AM. It will probably be cloudy so I won't be able to see them in the next few days. I guess they will be visible for another month or so.
1/24/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An overcast day with a temp of 25 degrees, just 2 degrees below the normal high for this date. It isn't supposed to snow or rain until tomorrow night. We did bring the truck up the hill yesterday, a rare treat in the winter when we don't have to transfer stuff into the Ranger to get it up here! We are too old to be lifting 50# bags if cracked corn and sunflower seeds twice!! The groceries, not so bad. One might ask, "Why then do we choose to live here?" Because it is peaceful and we can do whatever without the prying eves of neighbors, etc. Don't forget we lived in this state's largest city for over 30 years and the Windy City for almost two. Little privacy there!
1/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A bit foggy this AM with a temp of 24 degrees under a heavily overcast sky. It is supposed to rain, turn to freezing drizzle, then become colder and snow by nightfall. Sounds like a wonderful day ahead! I certainly hope there is not a heavy layer of ice on everything. We just got our new "power pole" last week with new wires etc. that came down form another direction from the old ones. It would be a shame to start over.
1/26/2016 7:00 AM M 3.5 0.40 M M Some excitement in the weather dept around here yesterday PM. It started to drizzle around 4 PM, turned to a light rain, then rain and snow mix for quite some time, then finally it chnged to snow as the temp fell a bit. It was still snowing at 10PM. Today is quite windy, but warm at 25 degrees. The little snow I shoveled did not have a very high moisture content in spite of all the rain that fell first. Glad there was no icing on the trees or walks, though.
1/27/2016 7:00 AM M T M M M Colder today, but the sun is shining in a beautiful blue sky. The AM temp was a chilly 15 degrees. It snowed most of the day yesterday, but not enough to even measure.A warm up with more snow expected later in the week.
1/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another gloomy, overcast day with a warm temp of 32 degrees.
1/29/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The sun is shining in a beautiful blue sky, again, for the second day in a row. It is chilly at 10 degrees, but is supposed to warm up, then rain or snow again. The moon was beautiful last PM (10:00) in the eastern sky and again this AM in the western sky. It was almost orange last PM. I still have to see the 5 planets, probably my lsat opportunity ever as I am not tetting any younger!
1/30/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain or snow yet. Today started out mostly sunny, by now has turned mostly cloudy. The AM temp was 25 degrees, expected to rise to above freezing later in the day. Tonight there is rain and snow predicted to last into Sunday. The big storm is supposed to hit on Tuesday.
1/31/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Warmer today at 34 degrees under an overcast sky. They are predicting light rain for today (could feel perhaps a little mist now) but the BIG storm is expected to hit on Tuesday with 10" or more of snow with a strong wind. I have only seen "Blizzard conditions" on the map once before, so this must be serious! The track of the storm will determine just how much snow we will receive, and that is still undetermined.
2/1/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It appoears to be a bit foggy so unable to tell if it is overcast, or just the haze or whatever. The AM temp was a warm 27 degrees. Waiting for the big storm to hit tomorrow! Much of the snow cover melted in the past few days due to the above freezing temp overnight and in the 40's a couple of days.
2/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The storm seems to be a little behind schedule: we are expected to get the worst starting at 10AM. We already had the "pre" storm with a few flakes on the deck that started at 7AM. No snow now, but expecting 10" to 12" by nightfall with some rain mixed in. Icing of up to 1/10th of ah inch could happen. Not a good thing for the trees and the power lines!!
2/3/2016 7:00 AM M 5.0 0.65 M M Woke up to more snow this AM (1 1/2') of new snow on top of what fell yesterday. It snowed from almost 10AM until after noon, then tapered off and later turned to rain/snow mix, then rain. The temp remained at 31 degrees, but icing was minimal. Unable to measure the rain since the gauge was full of frozen snow! Today's temp was 28 degrees and the snow has stopped as predicted. Now the fun of digging out of the heavy wet stuff!!
2/4/2016 7:00 AM M 0.2 M M M It stopped snowing shortly after 7AM, and the sun came out off an on for part of the day. The temps warmed up into the 30's, even melted some of the snow on the blacktop driveway. Too much snow around here making it difficult to plow the driveway with the Ranger due to the size of the snow banks. Of course, Ramses, had to jump over the tallest one and run around in the snow. Go figure.. must be the Bulldog in him! Pugs would never do that!! We spent a good part of the morning digging out the truck, and plowing out the mail box (seems to be our job since it is closest to our driveway.) There is talk of more snow this weeek. Also concerned about the 30% LP left in the tank. Don't want to be out in the woods cutting down trees with the snow up to my arm pits like we did two winters ago. The gas heat is really nice and little work involved also. Very cold today at 2 degrees.
2/5/2016 7:00 AM M 0.5 M M M Still quite cold today at 11 degrees, although the sun is shining in a clear blue sky, so hopefullly it will warm up a little more. It snowed sometime before 10PM last evening, light an fluffy stuff. The wild animals, deer and turkeys, are definitely looking for food now that there is quite a bit of snow on the ground. We are seeing cardinals, in greater numbers now that whatever they were eating must be under the snow. I saw four males on one branch where I have not seen but one all season. They are my favorite song bird.
2/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No precip overnight and the AM temp was a warm 25 degrees. The sky is heavily overcast and it feels like it could rain or snow today.
2/7/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A warm day starting out at 33 degrees, above the normal high for this date with a clear blue sky and sunshine.
2/8/2016 7:00 AM M 0.3 M M M
2/9/2016 7:00 AM M 0.4 M M M Back into the deep freeze for the next few days. Today was a cold 7 degrees, but is expected to get below zero before this passes. Can't complain about the severe cold so far this season, but I don't like it very much, expecially when we are getting low on heating fuel with few prospects of getting a big LP truck up here when the road is like a tunnel with all of the snow that has been piling up along the sides. The Co was nice enough to move the piles out of the end of the driveway, I suppose they feel responsible if we pull out into the road and get hit by one of the cars, trucks, whatever, that speed past to get a run at the big hill. It was snowing again at 10 PM, and there were still a few flakes in the air this AM.
2/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M NO snow overnight, but the temp was a -1 degree, the first sub zero of this year. The cold is expected to last past the week end, with Sat being the coldest. No fun walking 4 dogs when it is this cold. At least they do what they are out there to do, and then want back in the house!! The birds, by the way, I saw six male cardinals on one branch yesterday, they seem to come out when there is a lot of snow and cold. So happy to see that many since they seem to have disappeared the past couple of years.
2/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another very cold morning at -6 degrees. This is supposed to last for a few more days, then more snow in the forecast. Things could be worst; two years ago we would have been out in the woods cutting down trees to burn!
2/12/2016 7:00 AM M 0.3 M M M Suprised this AM to find the temp was a warm 11 degrees above zero with a few light and fluffy flakes in the air. There was a very small amount of snow overnight, so fluffy it was very difficult to measure it on a white snow board!
2/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It doesn't seem as cold today, however the temp was a cool -5 degrees. The nasty N wind that kicked up late morning yesterday, made it seem so much colder then. We will be in the deep freeze (Polar Vortex) I guess is the technical term for this weather we are having. It can't leave too soon as far as I am concerned! It is predicted to warm up in a few days, maybe into the 40's! I will try to measure the snow on the ground, but right now it is just too - - cold!
2/14/2016 7:00 AM M T M M M I never would have thought that 12 degrees would feel "warm", but this AM it did after a few days of near zero or below. There were a few fluffy flakes in the air at 7:00 that have now turned into a snow storm. We seem to be a in a pattern of cold, warm up and snow, get cold, etc. I think I prefer the snow, not too much though, to the bitter cold temps.
2/15/2016 7:00 AM M 1.8 0.10 M M I think we got more snow than we expcted, but it was very light and fluffy, not typical "Spring " snow. Today was a bit warmer at 16 degrees that actually felt pretty good, now if the sun would shine..It appears to be a little foggy, or hazy or whatever. A very gloomy day!!
2/16/2016 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M A much warmer day at 26 degrees with a S breeze. Today is supposed to warm into the 30's. The sky is overcast. A little sunshine would be nice!
2/17/2016 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M A bit cooler today at 12 degrees but the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. Yesterday's temps did get into the 30's. The big warm up is due tomorrow.
2/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another rather mild day, but overcast, with a temp of 23 degrees on the way to perhaps the 40's by afternoon. No new snow overnight or in the forcast for the next couple of days. The snow on the black driveway has almost all melted. Now we have to plow the snow along the sides away so the LP truck can get up here. The driver assured us he can back up the hill if we get the road wide enough. I guess he does this even in the summer.
2/19/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A real heat wave this AM with a toasty temp of 39 degrees and a bright blue sky and sunshine. It is supposed to become very windy later from the south.Trying to melt the snow pack off the deck that we did not shovel as we should have. The older you get, the less you do or should I say "can do"? We still have to deal with the driveway, although there are many bare spots now. We should be able to get the LP truck up here next week with no problem. Just glad not to be out digging in the wood pile, or worring about running out of wood before spring. The winters seem to be lasting longer and staying colder.
2/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The overnight temp remained above freezing and is at 36 degrees at 7:00. Much of the snow cover did melt yesterday but the sun did not shine all day. Today is sunny and less windy, so more snow should melt.
2/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another warm morning at 31 degrees. There are many bare spots showing up now, and the black driveway ia all bare. Just a few patches left on the parking lot and on the deck. I did not check the run-off in the big ditch at the corner of the driveway. I did not hear it, so it must not have been running very fast. That drains the fields above and eventually ends up down by the Co road where it runs into the ditch along side the highway, then into our little creek in the valley that empties into the Kickapoo River at Petersburg roughly 5 miles down stream.
2/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another mild day with a temp of 31 degrees under an overcast sky. The sun did shine off and on yesterday warming it up into the 40's. Beginning to feel a little like spring mignt be just around the corner. It will be spring in a month!
2/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 3.0 0.95 An overcast, but warm day at 32 degrees. There were a few flakes in the air at 7:00 that have now stopped. Hope the sun shines today so the rest of the snow melts off the driveway. I know we are not finished with winter yet, but it is a nice thought anyway. I'm sure it will be at least April before we see warm weather on a regular bases.
2/24/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It did not freeze overnight and the AM temp was a warm 33 degrees. The sky is overcast with little wind now, but more expected later today. There is much more bare ground showing now than there was a week ago. We are expecting delivery of 1000 gal of LP today. We no doubt will be heating well into May if this spring is like those in the past with the exception of 2012 when we had a very early spring, it was warm starting in March. After over 30+ years of NO spring while living by the big lake, the season here is a welcome change.
2/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little cooler today at 28 degrees with a very gusty NW wind blowing. The sky is overcast. Much of the snow cover has melted with these warmer temps. More rain or snow is expected on Sunday.
2/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another above normal day with a temp of 27 degrees, normal is 19, overcast with little wind. It is supposed to become sunny later today and warm up into the upper 30's. The snow melt has slowed down a bit due to the below freezing temps overnight. If it gets into the 50's in the next two days there will be little snow left except where there were piles of it along the road. More snow expeted next week thouth.
2/27/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A strange sight in the sky this AM, the sun, shining in a clear beautiful blue sky. Last PM the nearly full moon was also spectacular as it rose in the eastern sky. City people do miss so much if they cannot see the sky or the wonders of nature we see every day here in the country. The AM temp (at 9 AM) was a toasty 44 degrees on the way to 57, if one can believe the NWS. Too bad it is just too early to last!
2/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Clear skies gave way to clouds this AM. Breezy with a temp of 50 degrees, aa tease of spring that will not last beyond today! It felt good not to bundle up and put on dog sweaters for a change! It is far too early to expect warm weather to stay around. It can snow and be cold and windy well into May.
2/29/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M More seasonable today with a temp of 29 degrees (still above the normal of 20 degrees)in a partly cloudy sky. Today is supposed to be warm, then rain, snow, whatever is supposed to appear. It has been nice while it lasted. Too bad it isn't a month from now when we stand a chance of warmer weather staying around. There is almost more bare ground now than that covered in snow.
3/1/2016 7:00 AM M 2.0 0.20 M M Snow began sometime after 11 PM and is continuing now at 8 AM. The AM temp was 18 degrees, a little below the normal for this date. Although we could use the moisture, it was nice having a clear driveway and just a few patches of old snow around the house.
3/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Very cold today at just 1 degree, although the sun is shining in a beautiful blue sky. All of the snow has melted off the driveway and sidewalk already, a testament to the power of the early spring? sun just a little over three weeks from the equinox. Today is not expected to warm up past the 20's. When it does, rain is expected later in the week. Can't really say how much snow fell after 7AM, but my best guess is a half to three quarters of an inch.
3/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little colder today at 23 degrees under a very overcast sky that looks like it could rain or snow anytime. Some of the snow on the driveway did melt yesterday due to some peeks of sunshine. I don't believe the temp got above freezing all day.
3/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Warmer today at 33 degrees with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. If it warms up into the 40's today as predicted, much of the show should melt.
3/5/2016 7:00 AM M 0.8 M M M It started to snow around supper time last PM and came down in clumps for a while, then slowed down, and then more clumps fell. Because the AM temp was above freezing at 35 degrees I doubt that it was below freezing at all overnight resulting in some of the snow melting as it hit the ground. What was left on the snow board was probably pretty close to as accurate as I can measure. The snow that fell on the bare driveway was also the same amount.
3/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is shaping up to be a beautiful day starting out with a temp of 31 degrees in a blue cloud less sky. It is supposed to get up into the 50's today and mid 60's by Tuesday. Could it be an early spring this year? I hope not like 2012 when everything was at least a month ahead of normal and we had an early fall and if I remember correctly, a horribly cold and snowy winter. At least most of the show should melt in the next few days.
3/7/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Unseasonably warm today with a temp of 42 degrees under a sunny blue sky. It is expected to stay warm into next week. Much of the snow has melted except for that along the road and where there were piles and shady spots. There were thunder storms with hail in parts of central WI yesterday. Rain is expected here tonight and tomorrow.
3/9/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little cooler today at 43 degrees under an overcast sky. Some sunshine would be nice. The flowers, crocus, and other early bloomers are already up and so is the rhubarb. Can hardly wait to make my favorite pie that I get once a year!! It is really muddy around here, so much so that we may not be able to drive the Ranger up to clean out the blue bird houses. I did hear one a couple of days ago, and saw it again yesterday. The males are checking out the nesting sites. The robins should show up any day now.
3/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another fairly warm day at 38 degrees, but under an overcast sky. We don't seem to be able to get much sunshine, and it is usually windy. I guess we should be thankful it isn't snowing and below zero. I would expect to see some early blooms today, and the blue birds are singing. Today we clean out their houses as we do every spring.
3/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A bit cooler today at 33 degrees, still above normal for this date. The sun is shining in a clear beautiful blue sky. Rain expected the next few days past the week end. Just a few snow piles remain now. Hope we don't get any more. By this time of year we are tired of the white stuff, although this past winter was not that bad with either snow or extreme cold.
3/12/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Milder this AM with a temp of 43 degrees and bright sunshine, again. It is expected to become cloudy later today and rain through Sunday. I heard Robins when I opened the door this AM, so they are back. Always come about the second week in March. They were raising quite a fuss!! Providing some competition for the wood peckers that must be mating now, because they are very vocal!!
3/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.09 0.0 M M M It did rain sometime before 10PM; not sure if it rained after that! Cloudy today with a warm temp of 46 degrees under an overcast sky. Rain expected today thru Tues, then much colder with perhaps some snow. It has been a nice stretch of spring for these few days.
3/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M M M It rained most of the day yesterday but produced little in the way of water in the gauge. Today is overcast, but warm at 45 degrees. Some rain expected later today and perhaps thunder storms on Tues. We can always use the moisture as this was a winter with less snowfall than normal.
3/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M M M Another dreary overcast day, but the temp was a warm 46 degrees, above the normal HI for this date. That is going to change later today when the cold and another round of rain comes in. It did rain overnight with a little thunder and lightning mixed in. It rained hard, but only for a short time. The coming storm may contain up to 2" of rain.
3/16/2016 7:00 AM 1.21 0.0 M M M It rained off an on most of the day and evening yesterday producing over an inch of moisture. Today it is still warm at 43 degrees under an overcast sky with a strong, gusty wind predicted to be up to 40 mph at times. Not a nice day to be outside!
3/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Quite a bit cooler today, but there is bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. The AM temp was 36 degrees which is still above the normal low for this date. The next few days are predicted to be cooler than we have been having.
3/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A beautiful sunny cloud less day with a temp of 33 degrees, still above the normal low for this date. If the sun stays out it will probably warm up into the 50's. There are tons of outside jobs to be done around here. I did see some little yellow flowers a few days ago, but most are still covered in leaves that have finally become un frozen and maybe dried out enough to rake off the plants. Go Badgers - sadly no final 4 this year!!
3/19/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another cool, 34 degrees, overcast day with a hint of snow flakes in the air. No snow on the ground here and no rain overnight occurred. Looks like today will be a miserable day to do outdoor work.
3/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M There were a few snow flakes in the air most of the day, but it didn't appear that any of them landed on the ground! The AM temp was the coldest it has been for quite some time at 31 degrees. The sky was a bright blue, but some clouds rolled in, and now they have disappeared. A winter storm is expected to arrive on Wed with snow, a mixture of rain and snow here, and rain to the south. Much too early to say good by to winter for good!
3/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today was the coldest in quite some time. The AM temp was a cold 26 degrees, one degree below the normal for this date. Not a good way to start spring! A winter storm is brewing for mid week which could produce rain or snow depending on the track. Perhaps "winters last gasp", although I can remember snow storms in May. An early spring would be nice, but probably not likely. How about our Badgers going to the sweet 16 when they were given little chance to beat a much bigger team (4 guys 6'10") with a winning record. Good for them. So happy for their new coach as this is his very first NCAA tourney as head coach and he is from a little town not too far from here.
3/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Warmer today at 41 degrees under a mostly overcast sky. Not supposed to rain or snow until tomorrow.
3/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A chilly overcast day with a strong NE wind gusting making it feel colder than the 36 degrees on the thermometer. We are awaiting the arrival of our next show storm which could bring 6", more or less, of snow here, freezing rain and a genuine mess of weather in the next day or so. Can hardly wait! Almost took the plow off the Ranger, but thought better of it!! It is such a pain to put back on!
3/24/2016 7:00 AM 0.97 0.5 M M M Today is a real mixed bag of everything from rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow. It is expected to continue for a short while, and by afternoon there could be some sunshine. Difficult to measure the precip, whatever it is, snow, sleet, frozen rain, on the ground. It is so hard because the temp was 31 degrees and it started to rain or sleet, then snow for a time, now back to rain, that I cannot get a measuring device down to ground level! I am guessing it is 1/2 inch of snow or frozen rain. One can walk on the surface of this mess of frozen whatever. The snow in the top funnel of the gauge looked like the artificial snow you buy, large, flat flakes. I have never in my 3/4 century of living, seen anything like it! I had a very hard time digging the stuff out of the edges of the bird feeders so the seeds would come out of the tubes. Forget cleaning the deer feeder, a pan on legs, that was frozen solid.
3/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Woke up to a bright blue sky and sunshine for a change. The temp was 29 degrees. The sun shining Through the ice covered trees in the east was just stunning! Once I thaw out the large tube of the rain gauge I will be able to report the rain/snow amount. Does not look like very much. especially since most of the rain fell before 7 AM. The sidewalk has a thick layer of ice and packed snow/sleet mixture that hopefully will thaw once it warms up today.
3/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Warmer today at 34 degrees under partly cloudy skies. It is supposed to warm up into the 50's today and maybe warmer into next week. Some rain expected late evening or tonight. Most of yesterday's snowfall has already disappeared; just a trace remains on some grassy areas in the shade.
3/27/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another gloomy day, but warmer at 41 degrees. It is not supposed to get as warm as yesterday, but will be in the 60's by Tuesday. No rain expected here. The snow is almost all gone now except for a few piles along the road and driveway. I heard some more birds singing the past few days.
3/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M Woke up to bright sunshine today and a cool temp of 36 degrees. There was a little rain about dusk that didn't last long or produce much moisture. The next storm is expected on Wed. We are to have a couple of nice days with temps perhaps into the 60's.
3/29/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Two days in a row with sunshine in a beautiful clear, cloudless blue sky. Yesterday did finally warm up into the low 60's and the sun stuck around all day for a change. The spring flowers are up now and some are blooming. Must check the wild ones out in the woods that should be blooming now. Now that the chain saw is fixed, perhaps we will go out and cut some firewood. Cooler weather is predicted for later in the week. There is something comforting about a wood fire as opposed to an LP one.
3/31/2016 7:00 AM 1.10 0.0 M M M We did get quite a lot of rain yesterday and last PM. We had a short, but noisy thunder storm around 11PM with some pretty nasty lightning that did not last very long. It rained off an on most of the day. Today it is 44 degrees under an overcast sky. No rain so far.
4/1/2016 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M M M Sunny skies have given way to an overcast one. It is much colder today at 33 degrees, although there was frost on the truck today. The next few days are supposed to be cold and windy. I guess we are spoiled with the warmer weather we have had. Some snow is predicted for tomorrow. Can hardly wait!! By April we are tired of the white stuff and ready to move on to green grass and warm breezes.
4/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.04 0.6 M M M Woke up to a winter wonderland this AM. Because the temp was 34 degrees, some of the snow had already melted, and the strong winds (gusts up to 55 mph) was blowing the snow out of the pine trees. I measured 0.6 inch on the snow board, and the rain and melted snow in the gauge was 0.4 inches. It did rain, drizzle, off and on most of the day, but produced little in the way of moisture. Since we live on a ridge top, or pretty close to it, the wind was really evil blowing the snow out of the trees like a blizzard! That is probably a good thing because it was heavy and wet and did break off some small branches.
4/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was below freezing this AM at 31 degrees under a mostly overcast sky which has become sunny now. It is expected to warm up into perhaps the 60's by this PM. It will be windy again today. Yesterday was downright evil with cold temps and that NW wind gusting over 50mph for much of the day. I am ready for spring, although we are spoiled with that warm weather earlier in March. I should be used to this after living within 15 miles of the big lake most of my life where spring never comes, especially if there is an east wind!
4/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Back to winter again with a temp of 33 degrees under an overcast sky. Not much chance of sunshine for the rest of the week! I knew we would pay the price for the nice weather we had in March! April can be a nasty month with rain and show which is what we are expecting for the remainder of the week. There were a few sprinkles, very few, in later afternoon when I wanted to walk the dogs, but it did not last but a few seconds and never wet the driveway, just a few spots here and there. At least the strong gusty wind has gone! It actually blew over the rain gauge, but did not do much damage.
4/5/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cold again today with a temp at 8:00 of 33 degrees under a bright blue sky with sunshine. Not supposed to last past noon when showers are expected, and snow later tonight. If the sun stays out it will get a bit warmer which would be nice. We do have early flowers blooming and some wild flowers too.
4/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.26 0.0 M M M Another rather cool, 40 degrees, overcast day with light drizzle. It rained much of the night. Today is expected to remain overcast with rain off and on and gusty winds. The rest of the week looks to be just awful with much of the same, and some snow on Thurs. night. Reminds me of Milwaukee, which I do not miss!!
4/7/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another cold overcast day with a temp of 35 degrees. This is expected to continue for another week before temps return to normal. Snow may return for tonight and beyond. I hate to see the spring flowers peeking out of the snow!!
4/8/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was starting to snow as I went out the door at 7:00 this AM. Because the temp is 36 degrees, the only place it is sticking is on the deck and a little on the grassy areas. More rain/snow mix expected for the next two days here. Where has spring gone??
4/9/2016 7:00 AM T 0.0 M M M Very cold today at just 24 degrees although the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. Supposed to warm up maybe into the lower 40's. Tomorrow more rain/snow again, but warmer temps expected. Yesterday we traveled south to Platteville, where I grew up, went to college (BS degree) got married and had one son. Anyway, what a difference 50 miles makes in the progres of the tree leaves. Most of the hill sides are almost green now. I remember as a child we would go down to Potosi, on the big river, to visit my father's aunt & uncle, and their flowers were always in bloom much sooner than ours were. Yes, my dad's cousin was a bookkeeper for the Potosi Brewery back in the day. Who would have thought that now it is a popular brew again!!
4/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The sky looked like rain at 7 AM, and did rain a few drops thereafter. Not enough to even wet the deck. It is windy and overcast, and there is a blob on the radar off in eastern Iowa that will probably make it here soon. Yesterday was the coldest day so far, but by later in the day the temps did make it into the low 40's. Today started out at 36, warmer than it has been the past few days.
4/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M M M A couple of brief showers yesterday, otherwise a dry day with gusting winds. Today is cool, but sunny. If the sun stays out it may warm up into the 50's today which is normal for this date. I hope we are done with the snow for this season!
4/12/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today should be the last "cold" day for the rest of the week. The temp was 27 degrees under a sunny, clear blue sky. There is much outside work to be done so that will be great! The rhubarb's growth has progressed very slowly with all the cold. Hopefully now it will start to grow at a faster pace. I see the Dutchman's breeches have come up in my wild flower garden, and there are some other early wild flowers out in the woods. No blood roots yet though!
4/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A warmer day at 41 degrees, but overcast and windy.
4/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A beautiful warmer, 44 degrees, sunny day with a clear blue sky and less wind. Now we have fire danger warning because it is quite dry here and no rain in sight. Certainly hope this is not going to be one of those dry years when we pray for a good rain storm. April is supposed to be one of our wettest months, but so far there has not been much in the way of rain or snow.
4/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like we are headed for another beautiful day. The AM temp was a warm 48 degrees under a bright blue sky with sunshine. Fire warnings here due to brisk winds and a lack of rain the past couple of weeks.
4/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like another beautiful day ahead with warm temps (52 degrees) and sunny blue skies. Fire danger is still high around here with a lack of rain and gusting winds. There is always some idiot who decides to burn something when he shouldn't. I am afraid of brush fires because when I was a kid, a hunter tried to smoke out a squirrel in a hollow tree and set our woods on fire. It was scary even tho the woods were a long way from the buildings. I guess that is one of the reasons we do not allow strangers to hunt on our land.
4/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Going to be another unseasonably warm day with gusty winds and temps perhaps into the 80's. Way too warm for April! I'm sure we will pay the price later. The AM temp was a warm 58 degrees, near the high for this time of year. Things have really gotten very dry around here and there are all kinds of fire danger warnings. Not a good thing when you live in the middle of a woods!!
4/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M This will be the last warm day for a while. The AM temp was 56 degrees under mostly sunny skies with more clouds rolling in from the west. Rain is predicted for tonight through Wed. We do need rain badly, especially for the crops that will soon be planted and to quell the extreme fire danger.
4/19/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M There was a small amount of rain overnight, just enough to wet the deck, and certainly not enough to ease the drought. The AM temp was still a warm 51 degrees under an overcast sky. Thunder storms are expected for the text two days. Went to Storm Spotter Training in Lancaster last PM. They have really changed over the years. I cannot remember how long we have been attending these, but my guess is over 10 years. We do know many of the presenters from NWS in Lacrosse.
4/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.04 0.0 M M M A little rain yesterday for a while, but it did not rain very hard producing only a few tenths of moisture. It did help to lower the pollen count, but not much help to the plants that need moisture. The AM temp was 52 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Rain is expected late this PM. It has become very green around here in just the past two days. The trees are almost all leafed out now and the grass is a brilliant green. The smell of manure (spread on the fields) is in the air. My father always said that cow manure smelled like "money", but after all he was a dairy farmer.
4/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M M M A little cooler today at 43 degrees with some fog. The sky will be blue when the fog clears. A little rain fell again yesterday, but again not enough to do any good. I certainly hope we are not headed for another very dry spring and summer. Crop & milk prices are at a low point, and the pastures are full of beef cattle because the price of that is also low. Not a good time to be a farmer! The rich get richer on wall st. and the people here stay poor!!
4/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another overcast day with a temp of 51 degrees. It is supposed to become sunny this PM, and there may be frost overnight in some places. Hopefully there will be enough rhubarb for a pie now!! My very favorite next to red raspberry.
4/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It did not get as cold as predicted overnight. The AM temp was 45 degrees, about normal for this date. The skies are overcast and it does not look like a very pretty day is in store. I do think I heard a grosbeak this AM. No orioles yet, and they usually come before the grosbeaks. This has been a funny year for the birds. There is also a house wren back which is usually later in coming also. Strange!! At least it did not freeze nor snow which is a good thing.
4/24/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M A tiny bit of rain, but again not enough to help the dry conditions here. The AM temp was 53 degrees under an overcast sky. Rain predicted for later this PM and into the evening.
4/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much warmer today at 61 degrees with a once clear blue sky completely overcast now. NWS keeps saying it will rain, but so far only a few tenths of rain in the past week.
4/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cool, overcast day with a temp of 47 degrees. No rain again, although eastern parts of the state did get some rain. I see the apple blossoms are starting to come out. Always a big thing around here. Probably a trip to the orchards is in order for later in the week. It is beautiful when the entire hillsides are covered in pink.
4/27/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cool, 42 degrees, and sunny day. Rain id expected for later this PM and into the evening. Everything is growing and green here. The trees are almost all leafed out and the apple trees are in bloom. The tulips are out as are the daffodils and bleeding hearts. Still no orioles here, but did see a grosbeak the feeder yesterday. The house wrens are singing and the phoebes are nesting on the house as usual. Very messy birds. The house is decorated with white dots now. Hard to clean off the cedar siding!
4/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M Another cold, cloudy and windy day with temps in the 40's starting out at 43 degrees. It rained much of the afternoon and some overnight, but only produced 0.1 inches of rain in the gauge. We should probably be thankful that it wasn't snow!
4/30/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still unseasonably cold with a temp of just 44 degrees under an overcast sky. Some rain predicted for later today and tomorrow. I wish it would just rain and get it over with instead of this a few tenths here and a few tenths there that don't add up to a quarter of an inch total. This reminds me of the many springs I spent by the big lake when there was never a warm spring due to the cold east winds blowing off that big, cold body of water. I remember when in 1965 I was wearing a winter coat in June. That was the first year we lived in Milwaukee, and we remained for over 30 years!
5/1/2016 7:00 AM 0.52 0.0 M M M At last some meaningful rain fell yesterday and last PM. It is still overcast with a temp of just 44 degrees. May is predicted to be warmer and drier than normal. I guess time will tell! I hope we do get more rain, though. I hate to see things get all brown so early in the season. Now it is just beautiful with bright green grass and the spring flowers all in bloom.
5/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.21 0.0 M M M Woke up to bright sunshine in a clear blue sky with a chilly temp of just 37 degrees, the coldest it has been for a while. Good to see the sun! Perhaps we are getting our April showers in May.
5/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another sunny day with a starting temp of 45 degrees under a clear blue sky. Yesterday turned out to be a pretty nice day, but clouds did roll in later in the morning and hung around the rest of the day. I did see an Orchard Oriole and a Baltimore Oriole in the jelly feeder. In fact, one of them chased away a big old red breasted woodpecker twice his size.
5/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.23 0.0 M M M A beautiful, sunny day again with a temp of 46 degrees. A rather nasty thunder storm came through around 9 PM producing some impressive lightning and loud thunder for a short time. It also produce almost a quarter inch of rain, which we could use. Everything is now beautiful and green. Today is supposed to stay in the 50's and 60's due to the cold front that passed through last PM triggering the storms. The rest of the week is supposed to be pleasant with warmer temps and mostly sunny skies.
5/5/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It did not get as cold overnight as predicted. The AM temp was a cool 40 degrees with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. Today looks to be a beautiful day. So much outside work to be done!
5/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A partly cloudy day with warmer temps, 48 degrees now. Supposed to be windy and much warmer with highs into the 80's later today.
5/7/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An overcast day with a temp of 60 degrees. Yesterday it got up into the mid 80's, but the sky remained sunny. Conditions are still very dry here. Went into the woods looking for mushrooms, and so far there are none. It is just too dry and was too cold the past few weeks for them to pop out. I hope some idiot does not decide to burn something, because with this wind and the extremely dry conditions, we could become like Alberta.
5/8/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A beautiful day with a temp of 42 degrees under a clear blue sky and bright sunshine. The air is very dry as are the ground conditions. Fire danger is very high around here. Hopefully we will get some rain tonight or Monday.
5/9/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The threat of rain never materialized last PM. Woke up to a mostly sunny day with a temp of 51 degrees. Showers predicted for later today, tomorrow and more into Wed. Hope that is true! The TV weather said it will be much colder for next weekend and maybe even the threat of frost. Go figure - I planted a flat of flowers yesterday.
5/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.31 0.0 M M M A cool overcast day with a temp s 51 degrees and a little rain falling. It did rain some starting about 8PM or so and must have rained off and on during the night. The moisture was a big help, but not nearly enough to make a dent in the dry conditions. More rain is predicted tomorrow when a cold front moves in from the north. Temps for the weekend may be near freezing.
5/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M M M It threatened rain almost all day, but little materialized . Today is overcast with some mist in the air and a little fog here. The AM temp was 51 degrees, the same as it has been all week! Storms expected this PM and turning much colder. Perhaps frost for the week end. Not that unusual for May.
5/12/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M A little warmer today at 55 degrees with a cool north wind blowing. The air does feel settled but we got little rain out of what was predicted to be at least an inch of rain. It all went to the usual places to the north and east where they have gotten plenty of moisture over the past week.
5/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M There is a strange orange ball in the sky this AM, one we haven't seen all week, the sun! Showers are predicted for later today, and very cold temps for tomorrow, perhaps below freezing. Glad we did not plant a bunch of flowers. I have two in pots that can be put in the green house overnight.
5/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Partly cloudy with a NW wind gusting and a very cool temp of just 39 degrees. Frost is predicted for tonight. I guess I'll have to bring in my two potted annuals and cover the ones that I planted. I have learned in my over 70 years, that one never plants something you do not want frozen before the end of May. I have seen snow on May 12th and remember when my oldest was just a year old, that it froze all the blossoms on the trees, and the leaves that were out. He is now 52 years old!
5/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The AM temp was a chilly 32 degrees under a beautiful blue sky with bright sunshine. Glad we brought in the two potted plants and covered the others, because even some of the native plants, including the trees, are showing signs of frost bite! The bleeding hearts, just some of them, are nodding, but the trillium are just fine! It is supposed to get back to a normal temp by mid week. I hope my rhubarb is still ok since I am being pestered to make another pie!! My sister in law said it was snowing up north yesterday! they live in Mosinee, WI.
5/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful sunny day with a temp of 44 degrees. That is probably about normal for this time of year. So much outside work to be done I don't know where to start. Perhaps mowing the very tall grass in the yard would be a place to start.
5/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.10 0.0 M M M There were a few brief showers yesterday PM. The most rain fell after dark and was still raining at 10PM, but not really enough to relieve the dryness here. I see the ferns are turning brown on the tops, and the walnut tree that was just beginning to leaf out is showing signs of frost bite. One of the major wineries a little to the north of here lost much of their crop. I wonder how the apple orchards survived. Since most are on the hills, I suspect they came out without major damage.
5/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It did not get anywhere near freezing overnight, just 39 degrees with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. NWS says the threat of frost has now passed, at least for the time being. With Memorial Day only two weeks away, one can hope! I can remember many very chilly holidays, but none with snow.
5/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little warmer today at 49 degrees under a partly cloudy sky. Today is supposed to be warmer with no rain expected into the middle of next week. The ground is terribly dry here - we could use some of the rain that keeps falling elsewhere.
5/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cool start to the day with a temp of 47 degrees under a bright blue sky with plenty of sunshine. Rain is expected starting on Mon. and the remainder of the week.
5/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M This has been a beautiful week weather wise with pleasant temps and low humidity. The AM temp was 49 degrees under a blue sky and bright sunshine. It is supposed to rain by tomorrow night and into Tues. If I were a betting person, I would say we will get nothing! The forecasts have been so wrong almost all year.
5/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another mild day with a temp of 59 degrees under a sunny blue sky. Storms are expected later this PM and for the next few days. Hope we get some nice rain showers. The grass is already starting to show signs of lack of moisture. I hate to see everything turn brown this early in the season.
5/24/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A warm morning starting out at 63 degrees with a mostly sunny sky. The hope of rain is mostly gone. They are predicting some storms for today and tomorrow, but with the air so dry the probability of any rainfall is pretty slim to none.
5/25/2016 7:00 AM T M M M M There must have been a very small rain shower sometime after 8 AM yesterday producing a trace of moisture. It appears that today may bring actual rain and more for the remainder of the week and over the weekend. The AM temp was a warm 63 degrees under an overcast sky.
5/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.16 M M M M Was awakened by the weather radio (woke up the dog that has to bark) a little before 5 AM. It went off again about an hour later. Could not hear the warning, just that it was thunderstorms. We did get a little rain along with some thunder and lightning, and a brief period of hail. Now it is clearing, and is expected to get into the high 80's later this PM. Much too early for this kind of heat here. Hope this is not going to be a long, hot summer with no rain, but it certainly is starting out that way!
5/27/2016 7:00 AM 0.39 M M M M Woke up to the sound of rain falling. At least this time there was enough to do some good for the crops and settle the dust! The AM temp was 63 degrees under an overcast sky.
5/28/2016 7:00 AM 1.63 M M M M At last some useful rainfall here overnight. It was a gentle rain with no thunderstorms or hail which is a good thing. Strong storms predicted for later this PM and into the evening. We don't need hail as the corn is just starting to emerge. The mention of a tornado in the forecast is not good either. I don't think I have seen that from the MWS for a while! We seem to be getting the bad weather from down around the gulf.
5/29/2016 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M All of the significant storms missed us yesterday. We probably could have used more rain, though. Today is heavily overcast, but nothing on the radar this AM. It is very damp and humid. The AM temp was 63 degrees.
5/30/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Woke up to bright sunshine in a nearly cloudless blue sky. Showers are predicted for west of here today, but more on the way for tomorrow and Wed. The AM temp was 60 degrees.
5/31/2016 7:00 AM 0.07 0.0 M M M
6/1/2016 7:00 AM 1.62 M M M M It rained a few drops during the day, but the big rain arrived in early evening. We did escape any hail or damaging wind again, but got enough rain, some of it heavy at times with a little thunder and lightning mixed in for a brief while. It was still raining at 10PM when we had the dogs out (they were wet!) The AM temp was 62 degrees where it has been for the past week. Big storms are due to arrive Thurs nite and into Friday.
6/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A very cool morning with a temp of just 53 degrees with bright sunshine in a cloudless blue sky. More storms are predicted for tomorrow and tomorrow evening, mainly north of here could be severe. If the pattern continues, we will get nothing. With over $200.00 worth of annuals, I certainly hope it does not hail! Hope to get part of the vegetable garden planted today if it isn't too wet.
6/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.32 M M M M It rained overnight, but no storms here and the worst missed us again! Yesterday was a beautiful, cool day with sunshine most of the time. Today is very overcast with a starting temp of 62 degrees and is supposed to remain cool with possible rain showers in the PM.
6/5/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cool and breezy day under a partly cloudy sky with a temp of 60 degrees. A short rain storm with some thunder and lightning occurred around supper time yesterday. There was a pretty hard down pour for a brief time, but no hail or strong wind. More rain predicted for today, likely north of here. We did plant some of the garden yesterday and hope to do more today if it is not too wet or it doesn't rain.
6/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Another cooler morning with a temp of 58 degrees under a partly cloudy sky with some wind. Showers expected today and supposed to remain cool. Warmer temps to show up for Thurs and Fri. I much prefer the cooler temps!
6/7/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much cooler today at 53 degrees under what began as a clear blue sky that has now turned overcast. No rain predicted until Thurs when it is supposed to get hot and humid. We could see our first 90 degree temps of the season. Got some of the garden planted yesterday as well as some more annuals. Slowly getting caught up with the outside work. Now the grass needs mowing, and we have a rabbit around here. The first since we no longer have a colony of feral cats that kept them at bay. We do have to finish the fencing around the garden, although the deer aren't around here right now. Probably taking care of their fawns.
6/8/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks to be a beautiful day with bright blue skies. low humidity and plenty of sunshine. The AM temp was a cool 53 degrees, but a warm front later on Thurs will turn that into warm and humid for a couple of days. Love this weather, but don't go to the beach or water parks so don't want the warmer weather. I guess I remember the days in the past when it was near 100 degrees for a week in early June. We sold a car to buy and air conditioner since we lived in an upstairs apartment and could not escape the heat!
6/9/2016 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M It began raining about 6:45 this AM. It is now raining quite hard, and according to the radar, we are going to have more before this is over. The AM temp was 60 degrees on the way to 90 says NWS. So much for strawberry picking this AM. We also heard that the orchards lost all or most of their apple crop due to that cold spell last month. Such a shame; their workers are out looking for other jobs which are few that pay a living wage around here.
6/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.72 M M M M Much warmer today and a bit muggy. We did get a nice rain yesterday and it appears there will be more this PM. The AM temp was a mild 65 degrees under a mostly sunny sky on the way to perhaps the 90's later this PM. More storms expected then also.
6/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.57 M M M M Storms again last evening producing over a half inch of rain. The garden is growing and so are the weeds! The AM temp was 65 degrees under an overcast sky and very muggy. It did get up to almost 90 yesterday, which was the hottest so far this year. Today is supposed to get hot and humid with more rain. We have been very lucky not to get hail or strong winds. There was a lot of thunder and lightning, but that was the worst of it!
6/12/2016 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Storms just starting to fire up before 7AM with many more on the way from the NW. The AM temp was a more seasonable 61 degrees with rain and some thunder and lightning. This is expected to last most of the week! Good for the garden, but not good for the weeds that must be growing like crazy, not to mention the rabbit that was in there yesterday. Will have to let the cat out more often.
6/13/2016 7:00 AM 1.07 M M M M We seem to be into a rainy period with storms predicted for most of the week. It did clear off yesterday and became a rather nice afternoon. The AM temp was a cool 59 degrees on the way to more heat today. The storms are way up in the northern part of the state with a few out in Iowa to our west. I would like to be able to plant the rest of my sunflowers today, but it will probably be too wet.
6/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain to report today. The AM temp was 64 degrees under a sunny blue sky. More storms expected this PM and evening, some perhaps strong. So far no weather spotting necessary this season.
6/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.74 M M M M Once again we missed the worst of the storms. There was some thunder and lightning, but no hail or high winds. We did get more needed rain that did not fall in buckets as it did in some places. I still recall the really bad rains we got in 07 and 08 where there were mud slides and the Kickapoo flooded Gays Mills both years. The AM temp was 65 degrees under an overcast sky and very muggy.
6/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A pretty normal day today with a temp of 64 degrees under a mostly sunny sky. No rain expected until late Sunday, although temps will be on the high side the rest of the week and into the weekend.
6/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Going to be another nice day with plenty of sunshine and warm temps. Yesterday finally cleared off and became cool and sunny. The heat is OK, just not the over 70% humidity that makes it feel like a sauna! Heat is expected to return for Sun, then cooler with more storms. The corn is growing like crazy along with the grass and the weeds. Most of my garden is up and looking good if the rabbit and deer stay away!
6/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M What started out as a sunny day has now become partly cloudy. The AM temp was a seasonal 61 degrees on the way to probably the mid 80's.
6/19/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The AM temp was a warm 67 degrees under a clear blue sky with sunshine. Today is supposed to be hot, probably into the 90's, then it will storm and cool off the rest of the week.
6/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Walked out into a sauna today. It felt much warmer than the 73 degrees on the thermometer, but the humidity was high. Yesterday was quite pleasant with a nice breeze and much lower humidity compared to today. Storms expected later tomorrow and into Wed. Hope we do not get hail which is bad for the growing corn plants.
6/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much cooler today with a starting temp of just 56 degrees under a clear blue sky. Won't last long as storms are predicted for late tonight and into most of the day on Wed. Some could be severe. Want to bet they all miss us here?! We could use the rain, but not hail or flooding from heavy rains.
6/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Appears as if last night's storms completely missed us again. We got all of 0.01" of rainfall as did much of this area. The AM temp was 63 degrees under an overcast sky that seems to be getting darker and more threatening.
6/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.08 M M M M Once again we missed the storms and rainfall. It seems every time the weather people get excited about severe weather, we don't even get a decent amount of rain. Now they are predicting storms for Sunday night. Want to bet we get none of it, again! The AM temp was a warm and humid 66 degrees under a cloudless blue sky that has now become overcast in just over an hour. No storms in sight, though.
6/24/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is going to be a perfect summer day with clear blue skies, plenty of sunshine and low humidity. The AM temp was 60 degrees. More storms on the way for Sat. PM; again some could be severe with hail and high winds.
6/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is going to be a hot one. Already the temp is 72 degrees with very high humidity and plenty of sunshine. A good day to stay inside and catch up on housework, etc. I certainly hope when the cold front comes through tonight we don't get severe weather!
6/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.40 M M M M Still mostly overcast and warm and muggy at 70 degrees. The skies are clearing, so it may turn out to be a decent day. We did get some rain overnight with a little hail mixed in (I did not hear any of it) but spouse said there was some small hail.
6/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The air is more settled today; cooler at 58 degrees with much less humidity. The next few days are supposed to be cooler and mostly sunny.
6/29/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another perfect summer day with a bright blue sky low humidity, and plenty of sunshine. The AM temp was a cool 52 degrees on the way to perhaps 80 degrees. A good day to work in the garden and flower beds that have been neglected.
6/30/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M What is starting out as a beautiful day with blue skies and bright sunshine is supposed to turn into thunder storms by this PM. The AM temp was 58 degrees. There are already storms in eastern MN headed this way, and a cold front is expected to pass making the holiday weekend cool and pleasant.
7/1/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another rather cool morning at 57 degrees under a clear blue sky with some clouds rolling in. It is supposed to remain cooler than normal through the weekend. We did have a thunderstorm later yesterday PM that produced a small amount of rain, not nearly enough to make up for the lack of moisture around here.
7/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Going to be another beautiful summer day with blue skies, sunshine, and low humidity. The AM temp was a pleasant 58 degrees. Going to travel the average 50 miles south to Cuba City, south of Platteville about 9 miles, to a 90th birthday party for a cousin. That will be the extent of our travels for the holiday. So nice not to have to drive on I-90/94 on these weekends when the traffic is horrific (was bad then,) I can't imagine how bad it is now some 18 years later with no upgrades, to speak of, to the interstate between Madison & Milwaukee and tons more people out there.
7/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful day with cool temps, 58 degrees, and bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. This is supposed to continue for one more day. A little cool for the beach or pool, but beautiful for outdoor activities.
7/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today looks like a carbon copy of the past few days with a starting temp of 58 degrees under a clear blue sky with bright sunshine. That is expected to change by Tues PM when storms are to arrive. Let's hope we do get some much needed rain; it is getting pretty dry around here. The grass up in the field is starting to look a little brown, and the garden, where we don't water is very dry. We finally got the critter that has been raiding the bird feeders this past week, a huge raccoon that showed up in broad day light this AM to raid the bird feeders as usual. It managed to climb the big pine tree and became a perfect target.
7/5/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much warmer and more humid today with storms on the way for tonight and the rest of the week. We can certainly use some rain out of this! Today is overcast with a temp of 66 degrees and starting to feel quite sticky with the increased humidity.
7/6/2016 7:00 AM 1.20 M M M M We finally got our much needed rain last PM. There was about an hour's worth of lightning with little thunder around 11PM. The AM temp was 66 degrees under an overcast sky. Today is supposed to be quiet, but the storms are expected to return tomorrow. We could use more rain!
7/7/2016 7:00 AM 1.21 M M M M Once again we got rain starting around 5AM with much thunder and lightning. More is expected later this PM. We certainly needed the rain. The AM temp was 65 degrees under an overcast sky. I suppose now the weeds will take over the garden since it is far too muddy to do anything about it. The corn will grow by leaps and bounds if it stays warm. We were down south on Sat. (Cuba City/Platteville area) and the corn there is much taller. I think they did get more rain earlier than we did here.
7/8/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A bright blue sky and sunshine today with a temp of 67 degrees. A slight possibility of some showers later this PM. The big storms of last PM were a bust!! Nothing around here! Today and the weekend look to be nice with seasonal temps, lower humidity and sunshine.
7/9/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today looks like a prefect mid summer day with bright blue skies and plenty of sunshine. A perfect day for the beach. Speaking of beach; Bradford Beach in Milw. was voted one of the best fresh water beaches. I used to go there for lunch at the food stand when I was working on W Wells St. way back in the mid 60's. From the picture I saw, it has been improved a lot since then. The traffic was also much less then, in fact I think there might have still been street cars on Wells St, and WI Ave. The AM temp was 61 degrees.
7/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An overcast day with a temp of 65 degrees. There is a big blob on the radar out in Iowa moving this way. Storms are predicted for here around 9 AM and more for this PM. The ground is still dry even after more than 2 inches of rain this past week.
7/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.10 0.0 M M M It was like walking out into a sauna this AM. The humidity was gradually increasing last PM as was the temp. Today it was 70 degrees with a brisk south wind under a partly cloudy sky. Heat indices are expected to reach the 90's by this PM with perhaps some severe thunder storms. A good day to stay inside if possible.
7/12/2016 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M The bulk of the storms predicted missed us last PM. The AM temp was a warm 67 degrees, very humid with an overcast sky. There is a threat of storms later today and for the next few days. There was no thunder or lightning overnight. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky that we had no severe weather.
7/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M On the way to a hot one today with a temp of 68 degrees already with high humidity and a clear blue sky with sunshine. Strong thunderstorms are expected to arrive after 11 AM with high winds and perhaps some hail and the possibility of a tornado. So far nothing exciting on the radar. The predictions have been so wrong all season long, so time will tell!
7/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M All that fuss about storms and not a hint of rain or a dark cloud anywhere! Today is beautiful with less humidity, bright blue skies and plenty of sunshine. Some rain is predicted for the next three days; I'll believe it when I see it! The far north did have severe weather on Tue nite, and the Mississippi River is expected to rise due to much rain in N Minn. and Wisc.
7/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An overcast and dreary day with a temp of 63 degrees. No watches or warnings for us today.
7/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Todauy is starting out to be a beautiful day with cooler temps, 56 degrees, and bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. We had a very brief shower around 8AM yesterday, than the clouds remained until mid afternoon when it did clear off and become cooler and. less humid. Hope today stays clear, although almost every day that starts out this way eventually ends up with clouds.
7/17/2016 7:00 AM 1.34 M M M M We finally did get some much needed rainfall early this AM. A rather noisy and with lots of lightning thunder storm passed around 4AM (it must have started earlier judging from the amount of rain that fell). It was all over by 7:00. Another wave is expected after 2 PM this afternoon. The AM temp was 65 degrees under an overcast sky with high humidity, water almost pouring off of the trees.
7/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The skies were overcast at 0700, but have cleared now. The temp was 72 degrees and somewhat humid. Only a taste of what is in store for the rest of the week, especially Thurs. when the temps will be well into the 90's. Can't complain too much, however, since we have only had one 90 degree day so far this summer.
7/19/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is clear and sunny with a temp of 64 degrees, and a bit on the humid side.
7/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M A brief shower around 2PM produced a little moisture. Just enough to keep the humidity high. Was like a sauna, even though the temp was still in the high 70's for most of the day. Today is more of the same with an overcast sky, the threat of rain that is out in Iowa now, and a starting temp of 68 degrees under an overcast sky. The next couple of days promise to be extremely hot with heat indices over 100 degrees. Reminds me of the summers when we lived in Milwaukee in the 80's. I think it was 1988 that the entire summer was very hot.
7/21/2016 7:00 AM 1.02 M M M M A rather violent storm came through around 9 AM yesterday and lasted until almost noon. There was lots of very loud thunder, close, and lightning. We did have a minute power outage, just enough to cause all of the clocks to blink, and did destroy one of the computer monitors in the Ham shack. Today is overcast and very humid with a temp of 76 degrees on the way to perhaps 100. We have not seen this since 2012 when the entire summer, starting in March, was very hot! This is supposed to last through the week end and into early next week. We did get a nice amount of rain, and this heat and humidity will make the corn grow like crazy!
7/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.81 M M M M More rain last evening around 7 PM. Much lightning and thunder that lasted well past 10 PM. The AM temp was a very humid 70 degrees under an overcast sky. Yesterday was extremely humid, the local TV said humidity over 70%. The last temp I saw was only 87 degrees, but with that high humidity, it probably did feel like over the 100 degrees the weather service said was the heat index. Hope today is the last of that, but it doesn't look like it will clear up any time soon!!
7/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is perhaps the warmest to start out with at 74 degrees and very humid. What was a clear blue sky has now become completely overcast and the radar says the storms are close with more out in central Iowa moving this way. Not a good day for outdoor work, and the weeds just keep growing. There must be snap beans and pickles, but I haven't been able to get to them due to the mud and thick weeds. What was supposed to be a bed of flowers there is only weeds. Must have been bad seeds or something!! My purple cone flowers I planted by the house are now blooming and are beautiful. Last year they did not grow up there in the field. Go figure!! I think I hear thunder in the distance.
7/24/2016 7:00 AM 1.45 M M M M Two rounds of thunder storms, one around 9 AM and one in the PM produced almost 1 1/2" of rain with lots of thunder and lightning. We did not have hail or strong winds or flooding like much of this area. South and west of here seemed to get the worst of the flooding. Today there is actually some blue sky, but the humidity is very high with a temp of 75 degrees. I feel for anyone without air conditioning. The little Amish kids on the next farm come up to the car and put their faces against the cool window. Think of living without refrigeration, period. They do have a cooler for their goat milk, so I wonder if they somehow can use that for their food, like butter which they use for baking. I guess they are used to it and accept their lifestyle without question!!
7/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Finally a beautiful day with bright sunshine and much less humidity. The AM temp was 65 degrees under a clear blue sky. We need to dry out after several days of high humidity and a lot of rain. At least it is green again and the corn has grown about a foot! I can't find the garden for the weeds, some as tall as the Indian corn!
7/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today was the coolest start for a while at 62 degrees on the way to the high 80's. The sky is clear and so far it is starting out as a beautiful day. The heat and humidity are expected to return later. I plan to do my outdoor work this AM since I do not do well in the heat and humidity!
7/27/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
7/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is overcast and cooler, 68 degrees, but humid with a little bit of fog in the air. Some rain is predicted.
7/29/2016 7:00 AM 2.26 M M M M Cooler today at 63 degrees under an overcast sky with a little mist in the air. The bulk of the rain, 2.22 inches fell between 12:30 and 2:30 PM, one of the heaviest downpours I've seen in a while! I think the neighbor's corn field is now in our drainage ditch in spite of the strip cropping that was done a few years ago. I suppose the big rocks we put at the head of the wash are now at least 10 feet from where they were! I have not been down the driveway to see what came out at the other end down by the Co highway or the damage done to our driveway.
7/30/2016 7:00 AM 0.47 M M M M An overcast day with a temp of 63 degrees and quite humid. Storms are predicted for this PM. We have had enough rain this past week, so everything is so green, and the weeds are growing like, well, weeds! Some sunshine would be nice to dry things out a bit. I'm afraid of I will see when I go to the garden. The beans should be ready for picking, it I can find them.
7/31/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The first sunny day for about a week. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful one with a starting temp of 61 degrees under a sunny sky and low humidity. It could rain off and on the rest of the week with warmer temps and higher humidity. Must be time for the State Fair when it is always very hot!! I feel for the poor animals there. I used to go fairly often when I lived about 6 miles from the fair grounds.
8/1/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another nice day with clear blue skies and bright sunshine. The AM temp was a pleasant 64 degrees. More rain is expected tonight. There is a big storm on the radar out in central Iowa, so I expect that is what we will get tonight.
8/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The storms predicted for overnight did not materialize. Today is sunny with a temp of 68 degrees with higher humidity. They do say there may be some storms today. The worst is predicted for Thurs when the heat index could reach 100 degrees. Guess that's when I will do my indoor work!
8/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much warmer today at 68 degrees with higher humidity. The sun is shining in a clear blue sky. Storms expected tomorrow PM and evening as a cold front moves in. Temps tomorrow will be very warm with the heat index close to 100 degrees. Good day for inside work!
8/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Very hot,71 degrees, and humid this AM with severe storms predicted for after 3 PM. The radar shows much activity out in MN and western Iowa moving this way. We could use some more rain, though, just not severe weather. Last time we lost a computer to lightning which was intense and frequent and close!! When you live on a hill amid many trees, I guess that is what is to be expected! We do have good grounding due to the ham radio hobby, and make sure all of the antennas are unplugged during storms.
8/5/2016 7:00 AM 1.45 M M M M It started to rain at 5:00, just when we were about to leave for Viroqua and rained, thundered and some pretty intense lightning most of the way (25 miles). The second storm occurred shortly after we left on our return trip and poured the rest of the way, again with thunder and lightning. At least this time we got some nice rain without any damage here. Our road was washed pretty badly. Certainly glad I had two umbrellas so we could get to and from the garage without getting too wet!
8/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The first day without watches or warnings in about a week. Today is beautiful with clear blue skies, bright sunshine and much lower humidity. It is supposed to stay this way until mid week when the heat and humidity is going to return. The AM temp was a cooler 61 degrees.
8/7/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No watches or warnings again today. The sky is mostly overcast with a temp of 61 degrees. Not a good day for swimming or boating, but nice conditions for a picnic or some sports activities.
8/8/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is another beautiful one with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky with lower humidity. The AM temp was a cool 63 degrees. The mosquitos are pretty bad now. I guess all of the rain we have been having has given them plenty of puddles in which to lay eggs and make more mosquitos. We also have some rabbits, something we have not had for several years. Blame that on the lack of coyotes. We did see a red fox on the drive way last week. He is probably feasting on hasenpfeffer. I picked up a little German living most of my life in Milwaukee which has a large German population left over from WWII, a few did not speak English back in the 70's!
8/9/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little warmer today at 64 degrees with a clear blue sky and bright sunshine. More heat and humidity expected for tomorrow followed by more rain. I can't remember when it has been this green around here in August, so I hope the rain keeps coming. The corn looks great, but my Amish neighbor is yet to bring in his soggy oat shocks. I don't think he has his thrashing machine home yet; too busy helping build his brother's new barn.
8/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A warmer day at 68 degrees with high humidity under a clear blue sky. There is fog to our west out in Iowa, but the air looks hazy here and it is very muggy. This will be a good day to stay inside and catch up on my much neglected cleaning!
8/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It's the warmest it has been in a while at 74 degrees and very humid. We are under a flash flood watch for this AM and again this PM. We have the potential of getting up to 4" of rain from these storms. Right now one is just to our west in Iowa and looks to be a big one. The air feels very unsettled with a breeze under a partially overcast sky with spots of sunlight coming through. Very strange feeling out there like we are due for a bad storm. Hope that is not the case; our poor road cannot stand any more downpours or there will be nothing left to wash off!
8/12/2016 7:00 AM 0.78 M M M M Extremely humid today with a temp of 72 degrees. So much humidity that all or the windows are so covered in moisture one cannot see out! It is overcast with maybe a few rain drops in the air. Most of yesterday's rain occurred with the morning storm with little overnight. There was no thunder or lightning here nor what I would call heavy down pours.
8/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.58 M M M M Still warm and muggy, but not quite as bad as the past few days. The rain has finally stopped and there are peeks of the sun now. The AM temp was 68 degrees. It rained off and on much of the day with about 4 hours of partial sunshine before the rain set in for most of the evening. It was still raining at 10 PM, however it did not pour and we had no thunder or lightning.
8/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Woke up to sunshine in a clear blue sky with a temp of 62 degrees and low humidity for a change. Shaping up to be a nice day for a change. There is already a feel of fall in the air. The grosbeaks for have already departed. They came later and are leaving earlier than usual. There don't seem to be any orioles around either. We had no indigo buntings this year but did see a scarlet tanager. The cardinal population seems to have grown a little and there are tons of woodpeckers of all varieties. Plenty of blue jays and finches also. There is abundant food around here and we feed tons of sunflower seeds. The garden sunflowers are blooming. We also have more humming birds than we have had for at least 4 years.
8/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like another beautiful day starting out with a temp of 61 degrees under a cloudless blue sky. The days have gotten noticeable shorter, but it is only three weeks to Labor Day, the unofficial end of the summer season. So sad to see it go, as always. Do not look forward to winter since last one was not good here. Actually, I bought a warm coat(end of season sale), and only wore it a couple of times, do not need boots, gloves or a hat, so should be ready for whatever comes. We just got a summer fill of LP and the wood is ordered. Still have to find someone to seal the driveway and the roofer promised to come before cold weather sets in.
8/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Same ol', same ol', same o' today. Sunshine in a clear blue sky, but storms expected for later in the day and for the rest of the week. The AM temp was 63 degrees with more humidity. Interesting enough, the riots in Milwaukee are happening where I used to drive to work every morning. I worked in what is called "the inner city" for over 20 years. It became increasing more violent toward the end in the later 80's as the population shifted. We had cameras in the parking lots and a guard walked us to our cars. Really sad because there were some beautiful old buildings, most now occupied by the Mongs, and none of it will be preserved. I also lived through the so called "race riots" of the mid 60's. This is nothing new, just a new cause!! There were curfews and snipers on the roof tops of buildings. Passed through check points on my way to work Scary stuff!
8/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.96 M M M M We got almost an inch of rain overnight along with a thunder storm with lightning and heavy rain. It does keep things green around here. The AM temp was 64 degrees with higher humidity. The rain isn't over just yet; storms expected for the next few days with seasonal temps, although tomorrow is predicted to be a high of 91.
8/19/2016 7:00 AM 1.24 M M M M We won't have to water the garden again today! A rather loud thunder storm started around 5AM and continued until 7:45 AM. Those storms (there were multiple storms one after another0 produced just an inch of rain since there was already .20" in the gauge at bedtime. My dogs refused to go out at 0700 because it was pouring. I guess they are smarter than I am! I refused because of the lightning which was continuous for about 2 hours. This looks to be a good day to work inside.
8/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.90 M M M M Another almost inch of rain yesterday and overnight. It was raining very hard, with some thunder and lightning at 10 PM. The AM temp was a humid 66 degrees under overcast skies with more rain expected for today. Some sunshine would be nice! It seems that when it learned to rain again, now it cannot stop. I do not want to look at the driveway which is badly washed now.
8/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.09 M M M M Sunshine for a change and cool temps (59 degrees) with low humidity. Feels like a mid Sept. day rather then mid August. Yes, summer is fast fleeing all too soon. Next week is the Crawford Co. Fair, the last big hurrah of the summer season before school starts. Do not even know when that is!! With no kids in school, it does not mean much. All I worry about is having some wood to burn, getting the road fixed, pumping the septic tank, painting and roofing the house, putting siding on the shed (it is ordered), and seal coating the driveway. More rain predicted for Wed. when the heat and humidity return.
8/22/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M NO rain to report, just sunny blue skies and bright sunshine. The AM temp was a chilly 55 degrees, the coolest so far this month. Today is supposed to get back into the 80's. The clouds roll in around noon and remain the rest of the day keeping the temp down. More storms predicted for tomorrow night and into Wednesday. The grass is the greenest I can remember for mid August due to all of the rain we've been having. It looks like mid May instead of August!
8/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful day in store, but it will not last long with thunder storms predicted for late this PM and tonight. The AM temp was a pleasant 63 degrees with low humidity and bright sunshine, a perfect "fall" day in August. The Crawford Co fair starts on Thurs., so it will probably get very hot. Always have to feel sorry for the animals penned up in airless buildings for several days. The 4H kids always have fans though, and some of them sleep with their critters. I love my dog, but sleeping with a goat???
8/24/2016 7:00 AM 5.38 M M M M I've been measuring rain and snow for CoCoRaHS since 2007 and have never measured this much rain in one 24 hr period! It began raining at 10 PM and the there were at least two more storms with thunder and lightning after that. Everything is pretty well soaked around here. The AM temp was 65 degrees under a very overcast sky. More rain on the way for today.
8/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Finally got the phone lines up and running here! The AM temp was 63 degrees and the sky is mostly overcast now (2:40PM CDT). No rain today; we got more than our monthly quota Wed. night. More rain expected tomorrow night. Rivers around here are rising, although on our tour of this area yesterday, we did not see as much damage as one would expect to see from over 5" of rain. The Kickapoo river was over the dam in Gays Mills, but not out into the park like we've seen it many times before ('07 and '08) when the water was at the end of main street. Today the Wisc. river at Boscobel was bank full, but I've seen it much higher also, but actually most of the rain was in this area, not to the north. There is still running water in our usually dry creek bed at the foot of our hill.
8/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A taste of fall again this AM with a temp of 59 degrees under mostly sunny skies. More rain on the way for tonight and most of tomorrow. This is getting to be too much of a good thing! At least it isn't snow, but I'm afraid that will come all too soon.
8/27/2016 7:00 AM 0.66 M M M M More rain overnight again. It was raining a bit at 10 PM and at 6:45 AM (Yes, one of the dogs is an early riser since she has been sick.) It is heavily overcast and the temp was 61 degrees. A good day for inside work, but not a good one for the Crawford Co. Fair. We went yesterday. Some huge pigs and sheep, and some very cute llamas and chickens. I don't miss the farm!!
8/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M No rain overnight, just a little left in the gauge from the night before. It is very foggy today with a temp of 61 degrees. Showers and storms predicted for the text two days with warmer temps. Hope the sunshine returns on Wed.
8/29/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain overnight and the AM temp was a humid 67 degrees under a clear blue sky with clouds rolling in. Storms expected later tonight.
8/30/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Another warm, overcast and humid day with a temp of 68 degrees. We will never dry out at this rate. At least it is green and beautiful here for this time of year when it is usually dry and brown. I cannot get the rest of the brush sprayed as long as there is a threat of rain. I have been cutting wild blackberry bushes back along the road so we can mow. The berries were not very good this year; too dry earlier in the summer, then too wet later. The birds ate most of them! I have not seen a hickory nut so far, and none on the trees either. Earlier there were some black walnuts down, but haven't been back in that area for a few days. Much too wet to walk through the gall grass and weeds, although they did get cut with the string trimmer. Husband found some new string that is more durable for the task, so had been mowing everything he can find! We cannot get the big lawn tractor up the hill because the rocks we put in the ditch have washed out due to all of the rain. John's top soil is now down in the ditch by Co. S.
8/31/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is great to see the sun for a change. Maybe things will dry out a bit after a week of clouds and dampness. The AM temp was a cool 60 degrees under a clear blue sky. It is expected to stay this way for the remainder of the week, then storm on the weekend. We had above normal rainfall in August, and near normal temps for the month.
9/1/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like another beautiful fall-like day ahead with a starting temp of 58 degrees under a clear, blue, sunny sky with low humidity. No rain expected until Labor Day, and into next week when storms return. Maybe we will dry out a bit before then. Up at 6 AM today thanks to a little Pug who has been sick for a while and needs to go out OFTEN. She appears to be better now but is just plain spoiled!! I Didn't realize how dark it is at that time of the morning already. Hard to think I worked at 6 AM much of my life and getting up before 5:00 was normal.
9/2/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today will be a carbon copy of the past couple of days with blue skies and bright sunshine. It did cloud over earlier yesterday, though, and the temps remained cool for this time of year. Today's early AM temp was just 54 degrees. Good weather for the start of another school year.
9/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another day like the past three or so with cool temps, 55 degrees today, mostly sunny skies and lower humidity. Summer returns on Monday for a couple of days with temps back into the 80's and thunder storms predicted. I suppose this is the remains of the storms down south. We could use some rain. Hard to believe this is the end of summer, although the trees are dropping leaves at a fast pace and the growing season has definitely come to a halt. Fall is in the air for sure!
9/4/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another nice day with a clear blue sky, starting to cloud over now, and sunshine. Rain expected later tonight and stronger storms on Tues into Wed. Hard to believe this is Labor Day, the official end of the summer season. Football has already begun in HS and some college games, non conference. How about those Badgers beating LSU yesterday. (The coach married the daughter of one of my HS classmates who still lives in Platteville.) What a game!! I look forward to the Packers next week.
9/5/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today has turned overcast with the threat of storms to our north. The AM temp was a warmer 64 degrees and quite breezy Rain expected for the next two days, some could have severe weather, again. We could use some rain, but not a drenching like last time. The garden is almost done, a few tomatoes and cucs left, and the vine crop is finally almost mature now. Had a squash for dinner last PM that was almost ripe; it tasted good, so much better than the frozen variety. The orchards already have early apples in spite of the late freeze last May. Our trees have absolutely no fruit on them, nuts or apples.
9/6/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much warmer and more humid today with a temp of 73 degrees under a mostly cloudy sky. Storms predicted for this PM and tonight and tomorrow PM and Wed night. There could be flooding again, and from the looks of the radar it will be a biggie again. We need the rain, but not the severe weather.
9/7/2016 7:00 AM 2.55 M M M M It rained off and on for most of the night. Was pouring at 7:00 this AM. It did not cool off much overnight so the AM temp was 68 humid degrees with rain falling. Since then we have had two downpours from little red spots on the radar. More rain expected. There is flash flooding in two counties to our north and east. We are going to Platteville in Grant Co. to our south, so may see some flooding there. This weather has been very interesting for the past month or so, and seems to be continuing into the fall. We needed rain, but not this much this fast!
9/8/2016 7:00 AM 0.88 M M M M Another day with almost an inch of rain to report. The AM temp was a steamy 69 degrees under an overcast sky with some fog. Lots of rain to our north; talked to the UPS driver who arrived very late because he was in Readstown and had to detour due to high water levels. He also said the Kickapoo was over the dam in Gays Mills. NWS told me the Kickapoo would definitely be high due to heavy rainfall north of here. Vernon Co. just to our north had to evacuate a campground due to flooding. That is one of the most beautiful places around here!. When I worked in Viroqua I used to drive out there during my lunch hour.
9/9/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain to report today, but it won't be long before we get another round of storms today and tomorrow. The AM temp was a cooler 60 degrees under an overcast sky with the threat of rain shortly. Yesterday turned into a pretty nice day after the clouds cleared out and blue sky and lower humidity prevailed for the rest of the day. We drove past Gays Mills on the way to S. Grove yesterday PM. The flooding there was much worse that it was when we got 5+" of rain because this rain was to the north in those hills and valleys of the coolie region to our north. All the rain from all of those steep hills drains into the Kickapoo. The water at Bell Center was still way over the road and the valley was one big pond. We did not drive down to the bridge, but it did not look like there was water in the park by the river. Hope we do not get a lot of rain out of this storm!
9/10/2016 7:00 AM 1.05 M M M M Woke up to another overcast and dreary day with a temp of just 59 degrees. It must have rained overnight because everything was dripping and wet. We were under a flash flood warning again, but did not get the 3+ inches that the same places in Iowa and in Richland Co. WI got this time. We can probably stop wishing for rain now. It is nice to see the bright green grass, although the corn is mostly brown and even the bean fields are yellow. A record crop is expected for both this year. The poor farmers deserve a break. I hear that beef prices are low (not the kind I buy) but on the hoof, and milk prices have been low all summer. It seems the "global market" has done wonders for the dairy and beef industries. I listened to my dad complain about milk prices, though, for 24 years. He retired in 1963 and sold the farms the year after I got married.
9/11/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is a beautiful fall day with bright sunshine in a clear blue October sky. The AM temp was a cool 52 degrees. The next rain is expected tomorrow night and into Tues. Perhaps we can dry out a bit and do some painting and still have to seal coat the driveway which must remain dry for at least a couple of days. Hopefully the roof will get done before the end of the month, but I'm not holding my breath. The wood stoves are cleaned and ready for the first cold snap. Yes, we do have two gas furnaces, but save them for the real cold to come later. I even use the fireplace to take off the chill in the mornings even tho it is not very efficient; just like to play with fire!!
9/12/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is another nice one with clear blue skies and seasonable (56 degrees) temp. More showers expected tonight into Wed. from a cold front passing through. Hope to get more outside work done today like sweep pine needles off the roofs. Not a fun job that I enjoy especially because it involves heights which I do not like!
9/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.23 M M M M A very dark and dreary morning with a temp of 65 degrees and heavily overcast. It is getting darker, and from the looks of the radar, we are about to get some more rain from a small line of those little red spots. The biggest storm is to our south in Illinois. It rained here around 3AM and there was some thunder and lightning. It is predicted to clear off later in the day, but remain on the cool side. Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny day with cool temps and a brisk south wind got the temp up a bit. My wash dried, in the shade, for the first time in a couple of weeks. Won't be hanging out sheets much longer, though. Some of the trees on the hillsides are starting to turn already. I am so not ready for winter!!
9/14/2016 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M On the way to a beautiful typical fall day in WI! Cool temp of 54 degrees with bright sunshine in a clear October blue sky. The trees are really starting to change and the corn has definitely stopped growing. The bean fields are a bright yellow now. Because of all of the rain, the greens are bright, so the contrast makes for a beautiful landscape. More rain expected tomorrow night.
9/15/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A bit warmer today with a temp of 57 degrees, bright sunshine, and low humidity. It appears to be another beautiful fall day. It won't last long as storms are predicted for later this PM west of the Mississippi, and here by evening, through the night and into Friday.
9/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.94 M M M M Today is a dreary, overcast, and a little bit foggy day. The rain started shortly after 11 PM (CDT) and continued all night. The thunder could be heard much earlier. The AM temp was a warm 64 degrees . Rain expected all day today. It has gotten darker and I thought I felt a little rain when I was out filling the bird feeders. The grass will stay green, but not good for the leaf color.
9/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M Showers in the AM and finally clearing after noon. Today is beautiful with clear blue skies and bright sunshine. The temp was a pleasant 54 degrees. A nice day for outdoor activities. S. Grove art fair this weekend, Vernon Co. Fair, and of course a Badger game at the Camp. Next week is expected to be warm and sunny with summer-like temps. Winter will be here all too soon!
9/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like another beautiful day with sunshine and pleasant temps. Showers return tomorrow night following a cold front. This week is supposed to be summer-like, probable the last gasp of the warm weather we have been having in Sept. We are ready for winter except for the driveway and the roof!!
9/19/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a perfect fall day with clear blue skies mild temps, and sunshine. It was a bit windy though. Today started out clear with a temp of 61 degrees, but some clouds are rolling in now. Storms are predicted for after 4 PM and tomorrow.
9/20/2016 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Once again we were spared the worst of the storm yesterday PM around 3:00. It passed very quickly leaving only a little rain. The county to our N & W got large hail and a lot of rain as did the metro Madison area. Saw hail as big as golf balls on the news and street flooding. Sounds like more of that is due tonight and tomorrow. This must be what remains of the hurricanes from down south.
9/21/2016 7:00 AM 0.88 M M M M A rather intense thunder storm is occurring now. The rain began around 1 AM and continued off and on for the rest of the night. There was some small hail mixed in for a short while. Hard to tell the size, though, in the dark from an upstairs window. We are under a flood watch with up to 7" of rain expected over a two day period. We have mud slides around here, and some are expected if the rain does continue. I remember back in '08 when Hwy 35 along the Mississippi bluffs was closed with much mud and rocks on the road. It took several days to clean up the mess. So far this year we have not seen that although it certainly could happen along many of the rural highways. The AM temp was warmer at 62 degrees.
9/22/2016 7:00 AM 2.97 M M M M Be careful what you wish for! It rained again off and on most of the night. Things around here are soaked and it has no where to go. We are under a flash flood advisory again. We are going out for a ride to see the damage and probably take some photos. Saw the results of the previous storms on our ride yesterday. Many streams were way over their banks and almost took out the little bridges, again, like 2008. The AM temp was a warm 63 degrees with rain falling.
9/23/2016 7:00 AM 0.32 M M M M A dark and dreary morning with a thick mist in the air and a temp of 63 degrees. It finally did clear off yesterday afternoon and we had a few brief peeks of the sun and no rain after the morning. The Kickapoo River did overflow, the worst since 2008! We drove into Gays Mills and were stopped before we got to main street due to the water being almost up to the bank again. They had to post pone the Apple fest for two weeks because there was no way to get into town, plus all their venues were under water. People put a lot of effort into this and past residents, etc. flock to the village to camp and connect with old friends. I hope it is nice in two weeks. Went to the orchards, on the hill, and got some apples. They said what they had were huge and juicy from all of the rain, but the numbers were down due to the late frost. The growers in the valleys had nothing!
9/24/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain yesterday or overnight. This AM is overcast and very humid with a temp of 63 degrees. The moisture is dripping off the trees, almost as if it is raining. More storms expected tonight with more heavy rain. The Kickapoo River is more than 3 ft over flood stage now and will stay that way for a couple more days, if it doesn't rain again- which it very well may. Many roads around here are closed. Sometimes it is good to live on a hill!
9/25/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another dreary, overcast day with a temp of 64 degree. Some brief showers predicted for today, then a cold front with much lower temps and windy. Some sunshine to dry things out a bit would be nice. A few roads still closed around here, and water levels are still high. Things were not as bad as the flood of 2008, but not a pretty sight none the less. I remember when the Mississippi flooded my uncle's cabin and the mess they had to clean up, even tho they had moved to higher ground. Sometimes it is good to live on a hill!
9/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M The first time we've seen the sun in a clear blue sky in quite some time, perhaps a week. Today is expected to be windy, and perhaps a shower or two. The Kickapoo River is at flood stage today, but is predicted to fall below 13 ft. by tomorrow. Some people have had their campers stranded along the river since last week when they came for apple fest, which was postponed for two weeks. The orchards do have apples, not quite as many as past years, but they are just huge due to all the rain this year. Temps are going to stay on the cool side, highs in the mid 60's,. for most of this week. It really does feel like fall today with a temp of 51 degrees. Going to break down and buy a Farmers' Almanac so I at least have an idea of what normal is.
