I cancelled a walk this morning in favor of driving to my chores and by the time I arrived home, the rain was coming down again. The water in the creek behind my house responds quickly to rain and has turned a fairly muddy color. The rain seems to be letting up as the hours pass. The depth and duration of the storm is both welcome and unusual, and long-forgotten.

The conditions outside are bright and clear and cool.

The air is crispy dry, the sky is clear, the winds seem to even be picking up this evening, and when one walks outdoors, the feeling is warmish and windy. Unusual. And, of course, no rain.

I'm not sure that the3.80 inches was a record, but the rainfall was unusual in that it was 24 hours of steady, often heavy, rain accompanied by strong winds at times. The creek behind my house became a torrent, a roaring torrent. It is hopeful that this heavy rain will help to restore groundwater although I understand that groundwater restoration takes a long time. Anyway, the rain was great!

9/3/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M About 3 a m this morning a hard east wind began to blow. When I read the thermometer at 5:30 a m , the outdoor temperature was 85° with 52% humidity. Not sure if the temperature is an all-time high, but it was very unusual and noticeable. The air feels muggy and still now, and the sky is partly overcast.

Wind, rain, bursts of exceptionally heavy rain made this last storm exciting and memorable. And now nighttime temperatures are scheduled to be in the freezing range as we move to the clear skies cycle after the rains. All very lovely.
