2/27/2017 11:59 PM 3.43 M M M M (Monday)Mid 50's; A RECORD SETTING DAY!!; precip continued overnite from the previous evening; was surprised at overnite precip amount at second rain gauge reading (.84") at 8:00am local (one previous rain gauge reading had been taken at 2:00am local and was only .08") as I didn't think it had rained that hard during the early morning hours; it rained without any real let up all day and into the evening with the storm just nearing its end by obs time; rain gauge was monitored the entire day with the following reading at the following local times: 9:00am- .93"; 10:00am- 1.18"; 11:00am- 1.47"; 12:00pm- 1.74"; 1:00pm- 1.80"; 2:00pm- 1.91"; 3:00pm- 2.04"; 4:00pm- 2.09"; 5:00pm- 2.20"; 6:00pm- 2.35"; 7:00pm- 2.69"; 8:00pm- 2.88"; 9:00pm- 2.94"; 10:00pm- 3.04"; 11:00pm- .3.39"; precip for the most part was light to moderate with only two hourly periods (6:00pm-7:00pm and 10:00pm-11:00pm) where hourly rates were actually heavy; this was a record setting storm for a lot of places in the county today but three local records of note had El Cajon having the lowest maximum temp for the date at 56 and the largest amount of precip for the date (1.43" eclipsing the previous max precip for the date of just .90"); the third record of note pertained to this station as today was the largest one day (midnite to midnite) amount of precip EVER since I started keeping precip records here in 2001 surpassing the previous greatest one day precip total of 2.80" back in December of 2010; of note also was the fact that with this storm, areas with the larger amounts of precip were confined to mainly just this county; areas north of here received MUCH less precip than here; a (much needed) prolonged drying period is now forecast; max temps were 3-5 degrees cooler than yesterday
