It started between 7:30 and 8am, and ended right around 5pm (with perhaps a single flake or two after that). Temperatures in the 10sF all day. Very light wind from the southeast, as is not uncommon during fluff events like this one. Beginning of continuous snow cover, a bit late.

Temperatures hovered in low 20s until 1pm, dropped to -3F by 3pm, and -12F overnight. Getting 10" at temperatures around or under -10F at >1"/h can only be compared to early February 1989 (lived in Boulder Canyon during that one). Storm total so far: 24.4/1.28", more than a month's worth! And it is still snowing.

Below 0F pretty much all day, snow ended in middle of it after finally switching to high-density variety (11:1). Took a long time to clear and I am sure we were not even close to the cold levels reached just one county to the north (saw multiple -20sF in Estes Park and near Fort Collins). Clear and calm this morning with a crisp -13 at observing time. Full three calendar day (4 CoCoRaHS days) totals: 1.37/25.4", a new record for any storm in January since 1991. Snow settling smartly, to be expected with such fluffy overall snow. Broke trail yesterday, excellent base for this early in the season, but I need to get better cold-weather gear... A rare completely calm day, too.

Amount of rain is guesstimate from evening measurement today, neighbors referred to it as 'drizzle', so I don't think we got as much rain as near Nederland (or Allenspark). Note: in 27 years of record-keeping, I have never measured an all-calendar day rain day in December, January, or February. The lowest ratio of liquid to snow was on the 18th of January in 2000 (0.28/0.5"), today *might* give that a run for the money, depending on when the cold front comes in this PM, and how much 'juice' is left by then. Snowdepth also guesstimated. Winds gusted to 59mph in neighborhood yesterday, not quite as high as feared (and less than in Boulder this morning).

Based on video feed from neighborhood and radar footage, we had mixed snow and rain all day (0.10/T), not sticking to any bare surfaces. FroPa around 9pm with a burst of snow that yielded about 1" of snow in less than an hour, lingering snow after that (1.2/0.08" by midnight, and another 0.4/0.02 since then). Temperature dropped rapidly from mid30s all day to 21 by midnight. Occasionally breezy overnight, causing a bit of drifting. Midwestern feel to snowpack with that crusty top underneath the fresh snow. Winds gusted to 55mph yestermorning, and into the low 30s mph last evening. Before I forget, the calendar day precip/snow for the 9th was 0.24/1.2" for a ratio of 5:1, not quite as extreme as in 2000, but in the top 5 "wettest" (lowest ratio of snow:liquid) winter days on record up here.

Compared to the surprise snow amounts on the 11th, the weather service (and various models, including in particular the HRRR) were expecting similar if not higher amounts for the PM of the 12th - I could watch it collapse on the radar right as it was working its way into Boulder County. Still nice and mostly calm. Moisture and snowfall totals for this month already 2nd highest on record: 2.10/34.5", still a ways to go to challenge January 1996 (3.22/56"). But it would not be impossible...

Single snowfall measurement just before midnight last night, we may have a few flurries since then (and/or snow blowing off trees). This fell mostly in PM yesterday, while the preceding night's precipitation stayed at lower elevations. Drive up and down canyon has some pretty spectacular displays of hoarfrost in addition to the inch or so that was pretty pervasive. Temperatures bounced back up above freezing at this elevation by noon. Drive down at that time showed 36F on car thermometer at 8.7K, about 32F just above Jamestown (~7K), and 18-19F below 6.5K almost all the way down to Boulder which was closer to 23F by 1pm (top of inversion clearly marked by top of cloud layer).

Found 0.05" in my gage that fell a few days back, will backfill for the 12th of February which is the most likely time it fell. Snow depth is measured, but I noticed that my snow course (three measurement points) has not melted out as much as other parts of the neighborhood. My best guess is that the average depth of 13" represents about 80% coverage, while the rest is pretty much gone (not a single Tmax below freezing this month so far, unprecedented).

Storm ended up being only a fraction what might have been. March totals (Midnight readings): 2.35/18.5" (close to normal for precipitation, but <60% for snowfall). Average temperature for March: 35.7F (2nd warmest in 27 years, only 2012 was warmer by 0.7F). Drove up last evening around 9pm MDT, fairly heavy drizzle in lower foothills, changing to accumulating snow just above Jamestown (~7K). Much lighter snowfall up here upon arrival (0.22/1.3" had already accumulated, most of remaining precip/snow fell by 1am MDT). Foggy with very light snow falling this morning.

The latter one deposited a layer of graupel mixed with light snow (0.32/0.3"), with flurries continuing for an hour or two. I call this my first snow of the season (on the 24th). Slush cover survived overnight on grassy areas.
