3/29/2017 7:00 AM 0.23 M M M M Rain almost all day throughout the reporting period. Perfect slow rain that let the ground absorb all the moisture. Cool overcast all day. Quiet - no thunder or lightning.
5/2/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M All snow from previous weekend storm is melted.
5/3/2017 7:00 AM 1.05 M M M M Rain continues at time of reading. Significant moisture that started with a hail storm. Hail piles present around yard in all by hardscape locations. Storm intensive at time. Hail was very loud and awoke all home occupants. Very typical Colorado hail storm typically experienced in the summer; not typical for May. Storm started as quick pinging on roof, windows and deck of just hail. After about five minutes it changed to a mix with rain. Hail not only continued but also started to accumulate. Hailstones about pea size. Appears hail ended about 12:30 am. Cooler than normal at 36 deg F. Brooding skies everywhere. No thunder or lightning. Nearby creek visible from recording station is topping its banks. A wandering coyote known to den near the creek looks stressed. Nearby storm water catch basins are very full.

5/8/2017 7:00 AM 0.09 M M M M Quick thunder and lightning storm with several in-succession clod bursts. News reports one person was killed a few miles south in Sedalia, Colorado, after her horse was struck by lightning. Very humid and pattern appears ready to repeat.
5/9/2017 7:00 AM 0.53 M M M M Remarkable afternoon storm. Very dark skies built all morning and early afternoon. Big sheets of rain feel throughout rain period from about 3 pm to 7 pm. Surprisingly, no hail in the neighborhood considering that about 1 mile away signs of pea size hail was evident after a post storm exploratory drive. Rain was accompanied by occasional winds but otherwise a storm with only sporadic thunder and lightning. At time of reading, mostly cloud, temp is 51 degrees F. Looks like another stormy day.
5/10/2017 7:00 AM 0.43 M M M M Rain came early in the morning, about 1 am. Came fast and hard. No hail or sleet. A few quick blasts of thunder with associated lightning. Impressive sheets of rain slammed house in rapid succession onto north facing surfaces.
5/11/2017 7:00 AM 0.39 M M M M Steady rain on and off throughout the reporting period. At time of reading, overcast skies. A few drips and drops of rain. Temperature at 46 degrees F. Looks like more rain. Precipitation during reporting period was quiet - no thunder or lightning. Ground is very saturated. Drain basins are nearly fully. Trees are thoroughly enjoying all the moisture. One Ponderosa pine looks like its candles grew three inches last night.

5/18/2017 7:00 AM 1.65 4.5 0.55 4.5 0.55 Complicated precipitation period. Started raining about 7:45 pm. Included thunder and lightning around 8:45 pm. Turned to snow early in the morning, around midnight. Current temperature is 35 degrees F. Continuing to snow at time of reading. Trees heavily impacted with aspens leaning to the ground. One large deciduous linden tree has massive broken branch (6 inch diameter branch). No wind as snow continues to fall. Snow is heavier than usual and wet. Starting to accumulate on hard surfaces like road and sidewalk. Ground is supersaturated. Very low clouds. Light seeping through as snow falls. Measured rainfall is 1.10 inches. Rain was very heavy at times and pounded the windows. Appears some sleet might have been mixed in early. No hail. Springtime in the Rocky Mountains.
5/19/2017 7:00 AM 0.72 M M 4.0 0.82 Hard to figure this out. All day during reporting period it was mostly a "warm" snowstorm. It snowed - no rain or sleet - but it was an average of 35 degrees F with spikes down to 30 degrees F or so. In general, most of the snow turned to water, but some snow did accumulate. At times flakes were very large, the size of quarters. One of the craziest May snowstorms I have experienced. By mid-day streets were cool enough to get some snow accumulation but then turned to slush at the end of the afternoon. Regular spot for measuring "new snow" was melted and total snow was more or less compressed from the day before with freeze/thaw in effect from 35 degree F temperature.

Then in the evening, starting about 9 pm, several rounds of heavy rains mixed with bright lightning and loud thunder including cloud-to-ground and cloud-to-cloud electricity. This round dumped 0.17 inches. Ground is saturated. Storm rolled through between 9 pm and 10:30 pm. Light wind at times gusted to slam rain against windows. At time of reading: a beautiful morning at 73 degrees F.

7/27/2017 7:00 AM 0.94 M M M M Heavy storm in two waves. First storm came about 5 pm and deposited 0.12 inches of rain. Lasted until 6 pm followed by occasional drips until 9 pm. Then several waves of deluges arrived and last into the early morning. Both periodic episodes were accompanied with occasional thunder and lightning. At time of reading ground is saturated and the sky is blue. However, it does feel more humid than on a normal summer day. Of note, prior to the initial 5 pm rain, the sky was cloudy all day and heavy with humidity. It almost felt tropical and, for Colorado, very unusual. A bit muggy at times, humidity was very high.

8/7/2017 7:00 AM 0.28 M M M M Very wet morning at time of reading. Low clouds. Cooler than usual at 55 degrees F. Ground supersaturated. Feels like a Seattle day with slow drizzle punctuated at times with breaks but continuous gray and low ceiling clouds. No thunder or lighting.
8/8/2017 7:00 AM 0.83 M M M M What a day. Seattle in Denver. Rain intensive at times but more or less throughout the reporting period. Ground is super saturated. Surprisingly, outside of a few holes with water, no flooding. Local retention ponds are full. Nearby creek is at its crest. For example, a sprinkler control valve box in the ground is filled to the brim with water. Not certain this has been observed in August previously at this reporting location. Rain was mostly quiet in terms of not observing or hearing lightning or thunder. Moisture seemed very well received by trees and other plants.

8/17/2017 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Seemingly random short rains. Not cloudbursts - just a roving cloud or two that releases a little rain and then moves on to return sun and blue sky or maybe white clouds. Same pattern now for several days. Beautiful morning at time of reading. Localized ground saturation but overall yard and immediate open space is drying out.
