Currently have fog, lighter then at 0630. Fog has lifted some, not as dense as earlier. (Visibility 0.3 mi vs. 0.1 mi at 0630). Although no measurable precip can see moisture in the air, condensation on exterior of gauge. Awakened at 0630 by house cat who captured a large moth we don't usually see until late summer. Afternoon temps in the 80's have everyone confused about the time of year. Lilacs are blooming. |

Have had a few stalks of fresh asparagus from the garden. Started finding the yellow leaf tips from the cottonwood tree AGAIN--thought we were done with those--maybe now we can do the final sweep. Looking up, now I know why--the cottonwood trees are fully leafed out this morning! Ahhh the shade of summer is here! |

Hurray!!! Finally got some much needed rain! Our last precipitation reading was 18 days ago on April 3. March and April, our two snowiest months by history, have not been so far in 2017. The plants and trees are loving it! Our cat found another sphinx moth--and not from outside. Have determined that the moths must have over wintered as a pupae in one of our indoor potted plants--but still early in the season to see them. |

It has been a nice intermittent rain throughout the last 24 hours, allowing for ground penetration with little run-off.! Just what we needed. Saw a small amount of snow mixed with rain in a 10" period yesterday from 11:20-11:30. No ground accumulation (could see it as it hit the windshield of the car and only a small amount of slush on a deck chair). |

Rain with lightning and thunder began at ~12:30. Hard rain w/ small bits of hail lasting ~10 minutes. Lightning and thunder continued, although became distant. Rain must have continued throughout early morning hours. Hail pad has small indentations in it less than 1/4" or pea sized. |

Very heavy, wet snow fell initially in a two hour period followed by much lighter snow; Started out w/slushy pea sized "pellets" (hail??) followed by quarter size flakes (conglomerate of many smaller flakes, to small rice sized flakes. Snow continues to fall, smaller dime size flakes at this report time. |

Although we needed the moisture, glad the snow has ended. Nighttime temps at this station did not go into the 20's as predicted. Lowest temp seen 31. Did get a lot of tender vegetation covered so hope that the warmer temps + coverage bodes well for the plants. |

Another beautiful spring/summer day all day. Yesterday not a cloud in the sky!! Snow on the peaks to the west gleaming in the sun. No clouds made by jet contrails as must have been winds high aloft--that helps keep our skies clear, but calm surface winds. Don't get too many days like this anymore. Do appreciate it in all it's glory!! |

Observing piles of large amount of hail ~1.5 miles WNW of this station left from storm on 4/8/17 either that fell in the area or washed there from street flooding and run off. Hail amounts at this station were minor by comparison. Also saw photos of lower lying areas one mile ESE of this location with severe flooding of streets. 4/10/17's storm seems to be clearing from the north this morning. Glad the additional rain in the last 24 hrs. was intermittent and gentle to allow for absorption by the soil. When the sun reappears all of the plants will have a growth spurt--fire up the mower. |

Started getting storm alerts at 3:03 p.m.; Able to prepare--hail pad placed outside along w/securing other outdoor items by 3:30. Storms via radar were coming from NW but when the initial high wind gust (guessing at least 40-50 mph) hit it came from WSW. The wind gust ushered in the rain then subsided. Hardest rain I have ever witnessed ~0.9" in a 10 minute period with heavy street flooding. Rain started at 3:45 p.m. small pea sized hail at 3:48, hail stopped at 3:49 (Separate hail report to be submitted) By 3:55p.m.steady rain continued but at a more moderate pace for another 0,10". Another 0.01" added overnight w/several light storms passing though the area. |
