We missed what little light rain moved through the area last night. Not even a drop. |

We had a brief sprinkling from the rain that came down in Pinellas County yesterday; a few drops on the ground but not a one fell in the gauge. |

About 3 secs of light rain at 1:40pm yesterday on 4/24; drops made it to the ground but not in the gauge. Nothing on radar, but rattled the metal roof. |

We were missed entirely by the smattering of rain moving through Pinellas County last night. |

Waited to make observation at 8am with rain coming in, but it's still about 10-15 miles off the north Pinellas coast at this time. (8:03am) The line, not at all impressive to begin with, is breaking up as it approaches, so I have doubts we'll get much of anything. Will make a note of it later if we do. |

There was a trace in the gauge after the 11am sprinkle here yesterday, 5/2/17. But the gauge was dry this morning at 8am when I checked. |

I read the gauge after the first round of rain came in yesterday at 5:07pm: .21 in. So this morning's total (including yesterday's .21) after the second round early this morning was less impressive than it sounded on the roof. Was really hoping for at least .5 in. in the yard. Am unsure of early morning arrival time for the second band of showers. |

Gusted to nearly 40 mph last night. I heard one short, rainy gust in the middle of the night with the passing of the front; most in the gauge came from a 5/5/17 7:15pm very light rain lasting about 5 minutes. |

We just managed to get a relatively small but intense rain shower passing over north Pinellas county last night, around 7pm to 7:30pm, but can't report exact times. I knew it was sprinkling when I was in the parking lot, but had no idea it had dumped over half an inch in a short burst while I was deep inside a building for a meeting. I checked the gauge after I saw the gutters filled in the streets on the way home last night. Rumble of thunder and the lighting alarm horn went off in the ball fields. However, friends only a mile or so away reported nothing. |

The slow steady rain yesterday from about 8am on put .42 in the gauge — and there was a lull from late afternoon on into the night. I was up at 4:30am taking my dog out and the sky was filled with low rain clouds, but no rain taking place. Extremely muggy. And then this morning's approx. 15 minute rain at about 5:30am filled the rest. |

This was a close call. The gauge was bone-dry at 6:55am when we went out to walk the dog. However, it started pouring at 7:07am with a tiny cell that just happened to bullseye downtown Palm Harbor. When I went out just now to check at 8:25am, there's .33 in the gauge from that one, short-lived rain event of about 15 minutes. Which is great news; despite Saturday morning's quick shower here, my entire yard yesterday was showing wilting and signs of distress and the bahia grass was too dry to mow. I expect we will have been very lucky to get this morning's rain today. |

I wasn't home during either of these two rain storms at the house yesterday, but I noticed while watching on radar that the tiny, most intense (purple) area of rainfall was right over the house, at least at one point. And I'm glad; we've received surprisingly little rainfall here on this urban acre, despite all the local rainfall. With this heat, much of the plantings go back to wilting after 2-3 days, even with the scant amounts we've received. It takes an amount like this today to penetrate the soil and get to the roots. Even then, and despite my best efforts to amend the soil with organic material, it drains too rapidly as the house is essentially built on an old sand dune, 28'-38' high and about 1/3 mile from the Gulf. |

We had another round of heavy rain from a small, isolated cell come in around 6:50am this morning, just before planning to go out to get the gauge. I ended up waiting until 7:28am for the rain to stop before grabbing the gauge to measure inside the house. The rain late afternoon yesterday from about 3:pm until about 9pm was constant. |

Very welcome rain last night. Given that the drought of 2017 started in late September 2016, I'm getting worried about the condition of the yard. We dried out in the relentless heat almost immediately after the 5.22"+ that Irma dropped. The trees and shrubs have been wilting and showing heat stress. I've put off any vegetable garden planting. Local reclaimed watering is limited to one day a week; the topped-off reservoir after the storm was already visibly way down prior to the rain last evening.
Hoping for more this weekend, because given the chances for a La Nina this year and how tropical systems off the eastern coast robbed us of September's normal last rains going into our normal dry season, I have a bad feeling about another drought. |
