Texted loved ones at 4:40 or so tornado sirens started to be activated, neighbors yelling go to your basement, emergency vehicles sounding their sirens, trains blowing their horns. I knew it was time to hit basement when sky to the west was black and rotating. LaSalle County Nursing Home hit, Naplate & South Ottawa "war zone". Ping Pong & Golf Ball size hail some with spikes, hail was limited. I lucked out as on the northside of Ottawa. Neighbor missing part of his fence another his mailbox. Yesterday High 63, Low 47, wind SE, S, SW & W calm-33 mph with gust of 60 plus. Rain 1.48 in my gauge. Today at 4:20am: temp 49, wind WNW 10 mph, dew point 47, humidity 93%.Normal 42/24. At 3am Fox River at Dayton 9.40/flood stage 12. IL River at LaSalle 14.30/flood stage 20 and a lot of water coming down stream. What caught my attention was the lightning, lots of it and the strikes were close by as in 2-5 miles during the height of the storm, by the way 1.74 in my gauge. Storm blew up and sat there until it rained itself out. Today at 4:15am: DENSE FOG, temp 58, wind N 2-5 mph helping keep fog at bay or it would be pea soup, dew point 58, humidity 98%. Normal 82/61.
