12/14/2016 6:00 AM T T M 5.0 1.02 12/14/2016/0600... 2*F; clear, starry,full moon; calm; barometer has increased to 30.18; just a Trace of flakes in can; taking snow-depth sample was tricky.. the upper crust was brittle so I took a small sharp knife (carefully) and cut through the 1" upper crust in the shape of my canister, thereby keeping the snow from breaking away from the canister as I plunged it through the 5" of snow....I did not get an increase of SWE from yesterday... it stayed same as yesterday while the snow depth decreased by 0.5". I had expected the SWE to increase as the snowpack acted as a sponge..... maybe the air is sooo dry that none was available to be absorbed.

Possibly the air drew moisture from the snowpack.

I have 4.5" depth with 1.16" SWE. One has to use all your ingenuity to to come close to an accurate measure.
