First raindrops started at 0725, with obs taken at published time here. Temp range: max 69; overnight min 50. At obs: a cool rain and 52.

Temps steadily dropped from the lower 50s Friday to the lower 40s at obs time early Saturday. Winds increased Fri. night into the night, NW 7-15knots. At obs time, with 2" precisely (3 separate measurements over the period), temp is a chilly 43 with drizzle falling steadily. Many, many wet leaves covering some lawns, roadways. Gutters filled with leaves. Rainfall reading by 16:15 was 1.36"/another .12 by 18:22/and a final add'l amount of .52 at obs time by 06:40.

Weather conditions for the 24 hours ending at 07:00 this morning, were more typical for November. Overcast skies, along with a brisk W to NW wind kept temperatures in the mid 40s Sunday. A short wave propagating SE from the upper Lakes produced a plume of light rainfall overnight. However, the bulk of it stayed shunted to our south..across SW NY and western PA. Some lake effect drizzle developed predawn. Wet streets, wet leaves everywhere. Amount barely .01. Raw, cold period and skies nothing but gray.

Clear skies and rapid radiational cooling allowed temps to hit a min of 31 by 22:30. Warm advection and increasing cloud cover then started to help temps rise overnight. Warm fropa occurred shortly after 6am Saturday. Temp rose from 42 to 52 in the span of one hour, as southerly winds picked up in speed. A brief sprinkle occurred. At obs time it was a thick, heavy overcast...gloomy and 56. Daytime high on Friday was 48.

11/20/2016 8:00 AM 0.32 T M T M Early part of period...Saturday Nov. 19th, dawned sunny and unseasonably mild to warm. By 11am, mercury had already soared to 69. At 11:10am, a wind shift from SSW to W-NW occurred. Within minutes, temps started to fall and dewpoint temps jumped from 42 to 51. The dry warmth now being replaced by a much cooler and damp airmass. High clouds within hours replaced by a low stratus deck, with rain arriving by 15:10. Wind speeds increased with blowing leaves in the afternoon. Overnight, rain ended by 22:10...and remained dry overnight. Just prior to 8am obs, precip returned, in the form of light snow. Trace on the mulch and leaves. Winds remain gusty from the west. Temp range 69, and 39 by 18:00. Range 69/34.

No surprize that this significant snow was coming, but surprized at the magnitude and areal coverage. Cyclone center over northern Vermont Sunday night battering region with high wind. Snowfall rates on the backlash side of the cyclone..combined with an important assist from Georgian Bay/Lake Ontario..and bam! Melt down of precip perhaps contaminated due to blowing snow and a slight spill of meltdown while at the kitchen sink. Snow got started midday Sunday, but productive snow became evident later in afternoon and at night with bigger and smaller flakes seen falling together. Earlier, some snow grains were noted in the early afternoon. At obs, blowing snow, light flurries, temps near 31.

Blowing and drifting of snow. wind howled deep into the night. narrow temperature range from 34 to near 30. Deep, fully occluded cyclone over eastern Quebec slowly lifting northeast. At obs time, flurries and 30, winds subsiding, finally. Been a long duration event that started in earnest Saturday night with precipitation, near record snowfall...and WIND. Storm snow total at 14.5".
11/23/2016 8:00 AM T T M 5.0 M Some scattered morning flurries Tuesday 11/22. BINOVC appeared by midday, or sunny breaks. (BINOVC=breaks in overcast). Light breezes from the W at under 20 knots. Overnight, mainly overcast. Temp range 36/29. Snowpack has shrunk considerably. Bare spots visible, while other areas have measured drifted snow of 11".

Warm advection miles above us yielded a steady increase and thickening of cirrus and then altostratus clouds after 14:00. Some light freezing drizzle & ice pellets fell by 21:00 hour. In the morning, rain showers arrived after 08:30 with .11 in the rain bucket at late obs time of 09:25. Low overcast, light rain, light SE breeze prior to rain onset this morning. At obs, no measureable wind. Damp, and dreary. Snowpack now down to 3 inches.

A few periods of drizzle or showers after 16:15 Friday and again between 03:00-06:00 today, Saturday. Snowpack or snow on ground pretty much gone. Bare ground everywhere except on some northside exposure roofs and areas of plowed snow or drifted snow. Very little wind, near calm. At obs time, low overcast and 40. No fog, unlike earlier yesterday.

Gradual wind shift from S to NW occurred midday...then temps started to drop into upper 30s by mid afternoon. Cs deck noted along SW horizon at solar noon, and pushed in our direction during the afternoon. Still, sundown was observed, which here is shortly after 16:30. Overnight, increasing mid level clouds. A band of showers arrived around 03:00, but departed before 04:00. At obs time, mostly cloudy, blue sky seen to the NW. Temp at 52.

No daily obs for 12/1 & 12/2.
12/3/2016 8:00 AM 0.06 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range of 43 max Fri/35 min Saturday morning. Mainly overcast skies Friday with a brisk westerly breeze. Passing sprinkles in the afternoon, but not measurable. Higher terrain southeast, in central NY (Preble area) witnessed wet snowflakes. Friday night, approaching trof (sic)from Lake Ontario dropped south. A period of showers occurred after 19:45. Overcast remainder of night along with a steady cold W/NW breeze.

12/10/2016 8:45 AM T 0.2 M 1.0 M Temp range 30/17. Mainly cloudy skies with morning flurries ending before 09:00 Friday. Remainder of day dry, but cold with light wind. Overnight, partial clearing overnight. Shortly before current obs, light snow returned with radar showing a NW-SE oriented LES band from Orleans County shoreline into northern Ontario County. Flakes were moderate in size as a new event appears to be underway.

At 07:23, lake effect snowbound approached from the NW. In minutes, moderate to heavy snow fell along with brisk winds resulting in blowing snow. This morning event struck during morning rush hour, with north and west side hit hard by predawn. By 08:30, the band drifted south to Ontario County and some sunshine returned. However, winds were strong from the WNW, with gusts past 35 knots. Temps drifted to the mid to upper teens as day progressed. Meanwhile, a secondary lake plume observed in afternoon to our north. Slowly, it drifted southbound. North of highway 404, snow was falling mid afternoon. By evening, the leading edge began to produce light snow by 17:45. The heaviest snow arrived by 20:00, dumping an additional 4" of snow overnight. Brief clearing prior to dawn allowed temps to bottom out at 10 to 11. With two distinct snow bands, about 11 hour apart, combined and amended total of 5.3" is the final amount. Water equivalent is accurate with .26." This gave the station a 20:1 snow-water density ratio. The snowfall that fell at night was particular gloppy, with snow sticking to trees, highway signs and shrubs...like it was glue. All the while temps in both events were in the teens. Winds subsided considerably by dawn and obs time at 8am Friday 12/16. Temp range of 18/11.

The period mainly precipitation free. Finally, just as SNL started to air, rainfall returned, shortly after 23:30. Colder air and wind shift arrived at 03:37, but drop started at 35 air temp to 32 at obs time. Remaining rain became freezing rain with driveway and tree limbs having an icy glaze. We now start a period of intense cold air advection with temperatures and strong WNW winds to return. Wind speeds picked up dramatically after 03:50, gusts to 25 to 30 knots.//Of note elsewhere, historic or near historic low temperatures noted in eastern South Dakota and Minnesota. A report of -37F in Aberdeen, S.D. Numerous weather stations in that region ranging from -20F to -35F. In addition, reports at a few locations from overnight of -55 to -58. - sign indicates below zero F.

A slight breeze from the west to nw was noted, but very pleasant for a January day despite the below normal chill in the air. Overnight, lake effect band oriented NW-SE slid over our location, estimated around dawn. Dumped a nearly quick inch. At obs time, blue sky to the west, while nebula grey cloud (snowsquall band) visible from the N to E of this station. That is Ontario and Wayne counties. Winds have picked up, NW 8-15 knots, with wind chills effectively below zero. At late obs time, temp has risen to 15.5 degrees F. Snowfall catch and meltdown consistent and snowfall to water ratio 18:1.

Monday weather featured mainly overcast skies, but some sunny breaks in the afternoon as temps peaked into the mid 20s. Light breeze to near calm. Overnight, warm air advection and thickening mid level cloud deck observed. Very light snow broke out at 08:23, and observeration cut-off time at 08:30. Rapid increase in wind from the E to ESE after 08:45 obs as this is being written at 9am. Visibilities down to half mile with snow and fog.

The max temp occurred around 14:00 of 45. Then, a wind shift from S to NE along with an notable increase in wind speed. Temperature dropped slowly afterwards, and into the upper 30s by evening. Spotty drizzle observed following this weak fropa, which did not appear in any surface analysis. At obs time, overcast and 38.

Radiational cooling lowered the temp to 15 by 21:00, before starting to rise to 17 by 22:30. At obs time, mid level overcast and 21.

This first round of snow amounted to be to 1.0 inch, with a meltdown of .04. A second round of snow fell overnight, depositing an additional 1.2" Additional meltdown of .06. At obs time, breaks in overcast, and a clearing line observed to the west/northwest. Temp at 30.

2/8/2017 6:45 AM 0.34 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range 31/54. Temperatures continually rose from obs period starting yesterday morning at 6:45am. To a max of 54 between 01 to 02 earlier in the night. Overcast skies with rain and some light freezing rain that broke just after 11:35am Tuesday. Significant glazing noted by 14:45, at elevations above 625 feet..a relatively sharp line once above that elevation. Lower elevations at beginning of rain event had some as well, but was short lived. Precip ended before 19:00. Temps climbed until 02:00, when the cold fropa occurred. By obs time, temp at 38, with diminishing wind. Stronger winds noted during and after fropa, but rapidly diminished to a stiff breeze by obs time. No snow on ground. Small piles remain along some plowed driveways...but grass now visible through some of them. Zero snow pack here.

Meanwhile, 200 to 400 nautical miles to our east, a raging snowstorm with a strong cyclone off southeast New England coast. At night, more clouds, stars dimly visible. Some lake effect snow fell after 19:00...but most of the night was snow free. Strong winds from the NW noted at times, with estimated gusts past 30 knots...heard the "roar" of wind thru trees at this location. At obs time, much lighter wind, overcast and 20 degrees.

An area of synoptic light snow spread in from the west shortly after 16:00, but shut down by 21:30. Consistency was wet and flakes tiny, more like dandruff. Remainder of night was overcast as temps held steady, near 30. At obs time, overcast temp at 33.
2/12/2017 7:45 AM 0.07 T M 0.5 M Temp range 39/30. Sat 2/10 featured a thaw as temps approached 40, with many stations recording 40 by afternoon. Snowpack shrunk and some lawns are now exposed. Again, another overcast day and total lack of sunshine, while areas along the east coast saw clearing in the wake of previous storm. Overnight, overcast as temps dropped back to 30-31. Precip in the form of ice-pellets started predawn. At obs time, freezing rain, temp 31. Light easterly wind.
2/13/2017 7:00 AM 0.64 3.5 M 3.5 M Sunday morning rain ended early afternoon. Then a break. Starting at 16:55 first snowflakes..big ones, seen. Stopped again, Steadier snow after 20:00. At 21:00 obs, had a half inch of thick, big flaked snow on wood board. Overnight, temps sank to the upper 20s, smaller flakes and more powdery for the top layers of snow. At obs, light snow and 28. Max temp Sunday of 36.

Temp at 17 at obs time.
2/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 T M 1.5 M Temp range 45/34. Nicest day in nearly a week, with CAVU conditions. Abundant sunshine and another thaw with serious snow and ice melt. Light breezes. After 15:30, contrails and overspreading shield of high clouds observed. By 17:00, high overcast in place. Overnight, a light mix of wet snow and rain prior to and during dawn. Above freezing temps, no accumulation. At obs time, partly sunny and 35.
2/16/2017 7:15 AM 0.02 0.5 M 1.0 M Temp range 37/20. Daytime wx on Wed 2/15 featured mainly overcast skies and slowly falling temps after late morning. A period of snowgrains accompanying a burst of snow observed around noon hour, then quickly ended. At around 15:00 and thereafter, a couple of snowsqualls with low visibility. Increasing westerly wind gusting to up to 25 knots swept much of the snow away...so measurement of same became difficult. Overnight, overcast with little additional snow. Measured about half inch at obs time, which is ground truth. Winds had subsided considerably from Wednesday night. At obs, light snowshower, powdery snow on ground...and 20 degrees.

Cold fropa occurred at 18:24 as wall of rain and high wind occurred, dumping a quick .07 liquid. High winds raked region, with a peak gust at Wren Field wx station clocked at 59 knots(68mph)at 20:09. Power surges observed prior to that time, starting at 19:00. But at 20:13, dimming of lights, and then at 20:14...power out and area completely dark. Only those homes with backup power had any lights on. Temps dropped into the 50s and 40s following fropa, with midnight reading at 41. High winds continued to blow all night, under partly cloudy skies. Some snow broke out prior to 6am, resulting in it melting on area driveways and streets..and then quickly flash freezing. Another high wind gust occurred at 07:41, clocked at 52 knots (60 mph), again from the nearby Wren Field location. At obs time, mostly sunny and 25. Snow meltdown was .03.
3/3/2017 9:00 AM T 0.1 M 0.1 M Temp range 32/17. Mostly sunny skies with fair wx Cu and Sc. Winds were strong Thursday morning, but were gradually diminishing by early afternoon. Temps successfully reached the 32 temp threshold, albeit briefly mid afternoon. Lake Erie snowband visible south of I-90, and was gradually heading northbound. At or after 18:40, a brief period of flurries. Later on, skies remained clear with near calm air. Radiational cooling took place...and frost observed on grassy surfaces and car windows parked nearby. At obs time, sunny, light breeze, and 25.

Yesterday, a round of rain mid morning to midday...then a substantial break with mid and high level clouds in the afternoon. Winds light. Cold fropa by 21:00 accompanied by a band of heavy showers that ended shortly thereafter. Clearing settled in before dawn. Forecast for high winds have not yet materialized as of obs time, but expected after 09:00 today.
3/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range 54/34. Wild weather on Wednesday. Cold fropa occurs in early afternoon, as winds from the WSW began to quickly ramp up starting at about 12:20. Before 15:00, some areas observe a wind gust to 70 knots (81 mph)at the ROC airport. Pittsford automated weather station near this site clocked a 69 knot gust,(80 mph). Mainly sunny skies with fair wx Cu. By 17:00, peak winds were already lowering rapidly, and by 20:30, just a normal breeze of less than 20 knots. Winds were damaging, with tall spruce trees blown over and uprooted. Numerous branches downed from deciduous trees. In areas N and W of our location, downed power lines and over 100,000 people without power in the tri county region. Some towns declared a state of emergency. County requested that school districts be closed on Thursday, which is the case. Blowing dust and dirt visible during the peak time. Of note, the wind event had it's origins in eastern ND, northeast SD and Minnesota. A strong wind max observed that propagated rapidly to the SE, over lower Michigan and northern Ohio by late morning Wednesday, and arrived in western NY in the afternoon. Highest wind speeds observed since October 2012 and January 2012...with similar damage, and slightly lower wind speeds.

In drifted areas, up to 26" observed, at knee level to slightly higher. Winds, which became a factor in the afternoon could have contaminated meltdown. Readings for emptying snow/rain gauge were done every 3 hours up through 22:00, then 11 hours later another and final emptying out. Using two outer tubes and use is alternated. A powdery snow became more evident in the latter part of this ongoing event, with wind shift and colder air advected in from north. Storm still in progress.

Winds began to increase dramatically by early afternoon. By afternoon, a prefrontal trof (sic)and Lake Erie lakebreeze boundary took shape...a line of intense convection fired up along that boundary by early afternoon. Resulted in a patch of clouds...but much darker to our south and south of I-90. The rain associated with that feature never got to this station. However, it generated an outflow boundary, with winds briefly gusting to 45 knots at 14:22 EDT (13:22 EST). Gradient wind gradually diminished after passage of this feature. Temperatures remained in the upper 60s as late as 21:00 EDT. Cold fropa occurred around midnight, but it came through dry and marked by a wind shift to the NW and a dewpoint drop of nearly 20 degrees by obs time. At obs time, CAVU conditions and 51.

Activity dissipated after sundown. Overnight, patchy clouds to clear. Wind decoupled and only a very light breeze, likely a drainage breeze observed. At obs time, sunny and 53.

Overnight, clear skies and the breeze continued..but at reduced speeds. At obs time, sunny, no clouds in sight...and a warm 71.

At obs, multi level clouds, 68.

A warm day as max temps topped out at 80. Dewpoints began to slide to lower values towards afternoon and certainly overnight. During dusk and overnight, a "nice breeze," was noted from the westerly direction. At obs time, patchy broken clouds at various levels, 65. Very late nautical twilight noted Monday night, with a glow to the NW sky seen at 22:10 EDT time, or 21:10 75th Meridian Time (Standard Time, Eastern).

Prefrontal showers arrived by 19:25, ended at 20:10. Actual cold fropa occurred around 01:50, followed by post frontal showers from 01:55 to 02:50. Another showery "burp" at around 05:15. Following that, rapidly clearing skies and a brisk NW wind developing after sunrise (05:31 EDT/04:31 75th Meridian Time). At 09:00 obs time, CAVU, breezy, low dewpoint, 52, and 68 deg ambient temperature.
6/25/2017 9:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range 76/58. CAVU conditions to start earlier Saturday. Self-destructing sunshine as Cu and towering Cu initiated later morning and afternoon. Brisk WNW breeze and lower dewpoints made for a very comfortable day. Radar picked up an E-W oriented band of showers/T-storms along NY 31 and just north. Convergence boundary that was present most of the afternoon. A few cells developed and bulged southward, giving us sprinkles. An evening event around 20:30 gave us enough for a .01 accumulation. Areas near Fairport, East Rochester, Penfield and the city had higher amounts. Overnight, clearing skies and at obs time, mostly sunny with sct Cu developing and 62.
6/26/2017 8:30 AM 0.50 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range 73/56. Sunday started out CAVU with a breeze already underway from the WSW. Self destructing sunshine again, with billowing Cu/towering Cu. Eventually, CB's developed in clusters upstream. Showers began to interfere with outdoor activities at 14:25, a sunny break for a couple of hours, then a bigger cluster of T-storms and heavy rains developing at 16:45 for 40 minutes. Another round during th 20:00 hour. The last batch then cleared locally, but distant thunder heard from south of I-90 while the anvil head was directly overhead. Cumulus mamantus clouds observed by 20:50 as the sun was approaching sunset (local sunset 20:53). Resulting in spectacular orange and then pink colors. Temps dropped and then stayed into the low to mid 60s following mid to later afternoon. Stronger than typical downdraft or outflow wind observed with the 8pm T-storm/heavy shower. Special reports submitted as seen under significant weather tab on this site. Overnight, clearing skies and chilly. At obs, severe clear (CAVU) and 64.

Afterwards, clearing skies with sunshine and a breeze by mid to late afternoon through local sunset. At that point, mid level Ac deck seen on the western to NW horizon. During twilight period that followed, half moon visible with bright planet observed to the left of moon. New round of rain developing around 5a and continuing thru late obs at 9:12am. Temp at 68.

True tropical airmass in place following end of rain...as dewpoints in upper 60s. After 18:00,and especially noted after 20:00, increasing breezes and dewpoint lowering occurred. Any towering Cu now replaced by clear skies with a patch of Ac noted in the NW sky above the horizon. At obs time today, sunny, moderate humidity and 65.

At obs, high humidity, temp at 70 with stratus and higher Cs cloud shield overhead retreating. Blue skies with binovc observed. No wind.

Remainder of night mostly cloudy. At obs, low stratus deck, temps at 65 and WSW breeze at 5-9 knts.

Temperatures recovered to 83 following passage of lunar shadow, after 16:00. Wind dropped to near zero during eclipse max. Daytime cicadas stopped; crickets replaced them. Bats seen flying. Sky dimming noticeable..sky color went to a deeper steel blue. Patchy Cu and As patches had ghost like shadows to them. Light from sun was metallic gold tint. One could tell outside that heating from sun on skin was much weaker than normal. Yet, many people were not aware it was happening, was told by some.
