Despite the fact that i had removed the inner tube and funnel, there was as much snow on top of the outer tube as there was in it. I carefully brushed away the snow that exceeded the diameter of the outer tube and brought it inside to thaw out with a measured amount of warm water. That gave me the 1.38" reported here. I then took two separate cores using the outer tube to collect a cylinder of snow off a flat, white surface. From that process I got 1.12" and 1.03"--an average of 1.08", which is the value shown in the "melted core" field below.
