The main part of the storm went from 3pm to 6pm and, during the first 2 hours of that time, the winds were blowing from 8 to 14 mph. Measured in several places and got anywhere from 3 to 5 inches so went with what was on my snowboard and that was 4 inches. The rain gauge probably captured more snow because of the wind.

The snow on the ground is anywhere from zero to 2 ft in the drifts. Tried measuring in some areas where the wind had the least affect and had an average of 6 inches on the ground for old and new.

2/6/2017 7:00 AM 0.32 2.6 0.38 8.0 1.96 The only explanation I can have for the discrepancy in moisture of measured snow vs gauge snow is the melting that happened and absorbed by the snow. It snowed all day and into the night. A lot melted as it fell. The layer near the ground was a slushy ice. Did a good faith total snow depth and core sample. There was about 4 inches of snow than about 1 inch of ice. Than there was another about 2 inches of heavy snow and another inch of ice.
