It sprinkled rain around 12:00 pm. 10/6/17 and saw some lightning to the east around 12:30 pm. Then about 4:22 pm. I noticed some build ups just to my north and another just to my SSW. going up quick with large rain drops starting. It became heavier close to 4:34 with the storms quickly rolling east with almost continuous intense lightning about every half second ground to cloud and cloud to ground it sounded like. They just missed us except for the light but large drop rain we had. It was well off to the east by 5:00 pm. |

When letting the dogs out last night @ 12:05 am. it was 35 degrees with a few flurries. Now we have light snow mixed with snow pellets and ice pellets/granules. We have trace amounts 1/16 inch scattered around, mostly on decks. |

At 12:15 pm yesterday I measured a half inch of snow on the snow pad and on east back deck 3/4 of an inch and west front deck 7/8 of an inch. Earlier than that the snow covered the grasses and was frosting the dirt for about 45 min. then started melting. It was white for a short period of time. |

At 8:12 pm. last night I saw light wet snow fluttering by and it was 37 degrees and at 8:48 pm. it was snowing fairly heavy at 33 degrees. By 8:59 pm. snow was falling heavier and deck and ground was white and by 9:41 pm. the snow lightened up and it looked like the deck had a 1/2 inch. The snow picked back up in intensity again briefly before 10:00 pm. The wind during this time was blowing 24 to 30 mph. fairly consistently. This AM. both decks had 3/4 of an inch and the ground was 90 to 95 percent covered and the temp. briefly hit 18 degrees at 6:00 am. on two gauges. |

Yesterdays rain got a little heavier sometime before 8:00 AM. and around that time for about 5 min. it started to mix in a few wet snow flakes. The rain continued at heavier pace, but still light, until about 10:10 AM. when it became an occasional sprinkle for a short time then ended. |

Had light flurries off and on most of the day , then at 2:45 PM. 12/14/17 it started a little heavier and by about 3:03 PM. it came down fairly heavy for a short period and turned the ground white. It continued from light snow to heavier squalls , for short periods back to light snow until at least 4:15 PM. continuous and was still light flurries at 4:45 PM. The snow on the ground melting , except shaded areas , then finally staying white as sun got lower . I should have taken some measurements then but it did not appear as much as yesterday's AM. but sure some evaporated. This AM. it only measured 1/16th. of an inch . |

Looked outside @ 6:30 AM. , deck facing WSW. was partially white and south sides of large objects their are very small piles of a very small flake/grainy snow. Still lightly falling , hard to see with strong north wind. Also trees turning white from freezing fog. We are also getting very light freezing drizzle now. |

Last night when snowing cars on east/west street where turning around in the street and going back up a hill rather than turning onto a flat part of a north/ south street , Curtis Rd., and they all were going very slow. Must of been a flash freeze because of the 17 mph to 29 mph north to northeast winds . Due to the wet snow ground this AM. was white and fence gates frozen shut like locked . |

Last night winds and humidity's jumped around . By 9:00 pm. it was 27 degrees with 66% humidity and the winds were generally northeasterly 4mph. to 9mph. then they changed to NW. direction and temp warmed up and humidity dropped to 26% but by 10:40 pm. winds were back to NE. and humidity was 46% and temp. dropped. It continued sometime after midnight jumping around but only to a 39% humidity . This AM. it was back down to 26% to 27% humidity and 21 degrees temp. and WNW. winds avg. 20mph. low was 19 degrees . |

Saw light wind blown rain hit the car windshield around 3:15 PM. yesterday just west , 1/4 mile , of Falcon , Co. on Woodman Rd. . Yesterday , here , at about 5:24 PM. a big rain drop hit my neck as I was entering the garage . It then briefly started to rain big drops until 37 mph. winds hit and fractured it into a froth of small drop wind blown rain that lasted about 25 min. as mostly light rain , hard to tell , it was blowing from the SW. to strong . Last night , early AM. , around 12:30 time period as letting dogs out it was snowing hard , the size of quarters or larger , lasted about 30 min. |

Light snow and balled snow started @ 1:15 PM. 3/28/18 at 42 degrees for about 1/2 an hour @ 40% humidity . Then around 3:00 PM. big flakes , quarter to 1/2 dollar size , started falling @ 35 falling to 34 degrees with 95% humidity . Balled snow started around 8:10 AM. yesterday for about 5 min. Then I saw nothing until we got back from town , COS. where it was raining , @ 2:50 PM. and @ 2:55 PM. it started raining and snowing which quickly turned to a moderate to heavy large flake snow . That lasted around an hour or more . Then last night it started again sometime after 9:30 PM. and came down the heaviest yet but balled snow first turning to medium sized flakes and lasted for maybe close to 2 hrs. |

The rain started yesterday evening around 5:30 PM. as a few light drops then by 5:45 PM. it came down as big drop light rain just long enough to lightly wet the ground before it quit . Around 7:45 PM. and for several minutes we heard thunder to our west and saw some flash of lightning . It was around 1:20 AM. this morning we got awakened up by lots of lightning and thunder to our SW. , the lightning was almost continuous at times , and it started to hail sounding loud through the roof as if it was decent sized hail and then it came down hard but not as loud . Hailed enough to whiten the ground , still had some on the deck this AM. , then turned to heavy rain with some thunder close by . The heaviest precipitation lasted only 11 min. One rain gauge with the guts inside measured .31 inches and the other , tube and cap out , measured .41 inches . The hail was mostly pea size with a few slightly smaller than a dime . Not much leaf or flower litter on the ground this AM. |

I thought we might get some decent rain , did not want the hail , but one storm appeared to go NNE. of us and the other SSE. of us after first looking like 1 big storm building this way they split . Yesterday afternoon sometime around 2:00 PM. with the first of many passing showers , mostly wind , we had some light sprinkles . Then @ 5:24 I first heard thunder to our WNW. and @ 5:30 it rained lightly for a short again , small drops . I noticed shortly after that a build up was going up almost over us but just to our ESE. . Within a few minutes it started to rain hard with sun partly shinning and the rain was large slush balls and cold and easy to see . Then for a minute or 2 the slush balls started to mix in BB. to pea hail then back to slush balls then to a moderate/light rain that lasted about 10 to 15 min. , before it moved off to the ESE. . 1st. heard thunder @ 2:42 PM. to our west , yesterday , and felt the 1st. drop of rain @ 2:47 PM. . Then heavier rain with some hail BB to pea fell after 3:00 PM. for about 6.5 minutes , the hail only lasted about 1 min. . Measured .14" @ 3:27 PM. . It then rained in brief light showers a few times until another storm came in from the west @ 5:00 PM. that started with more hail then rain , hail was pea to penny size with the largest first , that started to lightly collect on the ground but turned to more heavy large drop rain with slush balls mixed in for about 20-25 min. . That was the most rain in an afternoon or day we had since 9/27/17 . I last week had to replace the post for one of my gauges and the soil was bone dry 26" down . The rains of .25 and .20 over the last 2 weeks did not penetrate more than 1.5 inches into the soil from each event and was gone, dry by the next day . Hope this gets a little deeper into the soil to help keep our lilacs and ash trees from wilting as they have been even with some watering . |

I was watching the storm to our NE. get bigger and gather strength hoping this one would finally get us . It did to some extent but the worst still passed by on the NW. to west side of us and somewhat on the east side of us also . At least the lilacs and ash trees quit wilting , now we continue to need more to help keep the soil from drying out so quickly . Had a very close lightning strike about 5:46 PM. and once heavier rain started we had a 5 min. burst of very heavy rain in about the middle of the heaviest period of the rain . |

We watched it come from the east as a house on the east side of Curtis Rd. disappeared out of sight . Within a minute winds of 49 to 50 mph. from the east hit with a white froth of small hail , pea and smaller , came down heavily with pine branches wailing I could not see more than 25 feet out the window , the high winds lasted 1.5 - 2 min. . The hail after maybe 1.5 min. switched to heavy rain . The rain spats started @ 2:03 and the hail and heavy rain started just before 2:07 PM. It left pieces of leaves stuck to the side of the house from small ash trees 22' away and blew their seed pods over the house . No tree limbs loss and only a little leaf litter . The heaviest precipitation lasted 11 min. with a continued occasional light rain for several hours later . The rain water ponded quit a bit on the soils surface and lasted awhile. The gauge with the insides in measured .50" after 11 min. heavy burst and the gauge without the insides measured .56" . |

From about 3:55 PM. yesterday to about 5:30 PM. we had sporadic light spits/sprinkles from storms just to our north riding the Palmer ridge . Heard lots of thunder the whole time while outside and saw several bolts and flashes of lightning . |

The winds yesterday AM. came up strong out of the North then the Northeast and when they did the clouds quickly started building and 1st round of showers started close to 9:30 AM. then next round with some close lightning and thunder , just NE. , came @ 10:40 AM. then last round came as we were leaving for town and with dark clouds overhead came close to 12:30 PM. . As we drove West down Garrett Rd. it was still raining but appeared we were on the Northern edge of the rain and as we got closer to HWY. 24 the winds were strong out of the south and by the time we got to town it was sunny and warm . When we had left the house it was still in the low to mid 70's and only got to 85 degrees for the day . Did have a very brief shower , large drops , yesterday close to 4:45 PM. from a passing build up . |

Some large drop rain , light , started sporadically around 2:25 PM. yesterday but very sporadic , then @ 2:41 PM. I started to hear loud cracks thumps on the roof and side of the house again sporadic and was not sure what it was at 1st. but then I saw some large hail went outside and grabbed some quickly and never got hit . They were 1" , 3/4" and 1/2" most being 3/4" at the time . It then started coming down more heavily larger at 1st. but then quickly , thankfully got smaller pea to marble/grape . Only had minor leaf damage but the largest chunks/leaflets we have had this year . It only lasted 5 - 6 mins. started to cover ground then quit . Measurable moisture from this event was .20" with .01" attributed to the hail. It rained again last night some before midnight and some after - .07" . |

1st. sprinkles hit my neck @ 2:59 PM. but that was it then 2 short showers came after 3:45 PM. to before 4:30 PM. yesterday leaving only .01" . Then last night had another short shower with some BB sized hail mixed in close to 10:00 PM. but close to 11:00 PM. until about 11:45 we had a great light show with heavy rain mixed with mostly pea to marble hail with some sporadic larger hail , noisy and could see some that looked between nickel and quarter size but only very little plus there was always more rain than hail , at least 2/3 more rain . Hail did leave a couple dents on swamp cooler top . |

The storm happened when I was in town @ the doctors having no idea one was coming or close until I saw it on the waiting room TV . I had read only part of the area forecast discussion for I had little time besides it had just stormed the night before about 12 hrs. We came home to still1 to 4 inches of hail on the ground with 1' to 18" drifts mostly against structures , we still have hail on the ground . We had to shovel it to get in the garage and again to get in the back door . We got back home close to 12:00 PM. or just after and the size of hail at that time was marble to a lot of quarter size to a little larger . Leaf & needle debris covering the ground like a carpet . Some denuded trees and shrubs , decks damaged , wood splinters , window screens ripped off and the vinyl frame for the windows broken , house trim peppered , hummingbird feeders trashed , 2 anemometers trashed , flower pots looked like swiss cheese , debris from trees and other items found 100' away , easy to see damaged roof , will be 3rd time in 3.5 yrs. and so on . It is not as bad as a lot in town but we have our work cut out for us . The rain gauge with insides in .45" and the 1 without the insides .62" of moisture . So in 12 hours we had .98" of moisture both coming at unusual times . |

Last night @ 8:20 to 8:21 we had a heavy burst of rain then 8:23 to 8:37 we had just as heavy rain come down . then again around 8:41 to 8:48 just as heavy then again from 8:50 to about 9:14 PM. . In between the bursts of heavy rain it continued to rain until at least 10:30 PM. . I even heard 3 short heavy burst of rain between 11:30 to 11:45 when I had gotten up for a few minutes . |

We had a short shower about 5 min. apiece @ 6:00 and 6:30 PM. yesterday . I thought we would get more rain with dewpoints ranging from 64 to 61 degrees all day until about 7:00 PM. , with winds out of the SE to south also . It kept building up just to our north to NW. to NE. almost over the top of us but it all moved of to our ESE. or dissipated or got absorbed into larger build ups . |

A thunder shower caused rain to start @ 2:01 then the heavier rain started close to 2:10 PM. yesterday and lasted until 2:23 leaving us with .20" , the storm was almost on top of us but slightly to the north , winds were out of the west most of the time , it was close enough that a bolt of lightning froze a automated weather station I have , it had to be reset . the next wave of rain came around 6:15 PM and lasted about 35 to 40 min. and added another .14" . The rest came sometime last night with some possible after midnight because the automated station registered .01" after 12:00 AM. |
