10/1/2017 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M
10/2/2017 7:00 AM 0.47 M M M M Late afternoon/early evening showers riding gusty east wind of 20-30 mph produced a couple of rounds of light to moderate rain. Much higher totals of 7-10" were noted about 50 miles both north and south of my location in coastal locations of Flagler and Brevard County in two distinct training areas of convergence off the Atlantic Ocean.
10/3/2017 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Persistent onshore east wind off the Atlantic sustained 15-20 mph gusting to 30+ is taking a toll on my hurricane Irma ravaged landscape. While some areas up and down the coast have received a foot of rain from this multi-day event, the 4-day total here is barely 1", and the wind has exacerbated drying.

10/5/2017 7:00 AM 0.10 M M M M
10/6/2017 7:00 AM 1.53 M M M M Off/on moderate rain showers coming in from the Atlantic on the strong easterly wind flow the past 24 hours accounted for the beneficial precipitation. The wind finally relaxed this morning to near calm at sunrise after 5 days of relentless 20-30 mph east wind with gusts to gale force. The beach is a mess of debris (both organic and anthropogenic origin) and the dune was eroded significantly in many places. A large channel marker piling (green "1A") was on the high tide line near the Sun Glow pier yesterday evening.
10/7/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/8/2017 7:00 AM T M M M M
10/9/2017 7:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Several brief light "blow-off" showers, one in the mid-afternoon and one in the evening, accounted for the meager precipitation total. Inland locations to the west of the beaches recorded several inches of rain.
10/10/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/11/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 75F at time of observation this morning. Still waiting for the first sub-70F morning low temperature of fall. With surf temperature still 80F and the ongoing sultry onshore flow off the Atlantic, seasonally cooler morning lows may be delayed until the last week in October.
10/12/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/13/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/14/2017 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M A brief mid-day sprinkle coming off the ocean on moderate ENE wind flow accounted for the meager but measureable precipitation. The onshore wind increased to 20-25 mph during the afternoon.
10/15/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/16/2017 7:00 AM 0.09 M M M M A mid-afternoon shower yesterday off the Atlantic (0.04") and another pre-dawn shower (0.05") accounted for the meager but measureable and wetting precipitation. Very hopeful for a significant rainfall event before the cold fronts scour out the humidity this month, signaling an end to the "rainy" season.
10/17/2017 8:00 AM 1.27 M M M M Observation delayed 1 hour due to ongoing moderate rain. Very welcome moderate to occasionally heavy rain showers dropping SSE down the coast early this morning. Volusia and northern Brevard counties are currently under a flood watch, but I would welcome another inch or two of rain at my location given the well-drained, dry soil conditions.
10/18/2017 8:00 AM 1.36 M M M M Observation delayed 1 hour due to ongoing moderate rain shower for second day in a row. Wind gusts from the NE approaching 35 mph observed yesterday afternoon during the heaviest rain shower. Yesterday evening's Atlantic Ocean high tide at Sun Glow pier was approx. 1.5' above normal, and it would've reached the sea wall if it wasn't for the thick later of wrack (dead vegetative debris) that was deposited along the high tide line several weeks ago during a prolonged period of strong east wind following hurricane Irma.

10/22/2017 7:00 AM 0.21 M M M M Several rounds of showers riding in off the Atlantic Ocean on the gusty east flow the late afternoon and evening accounted for the precipitation. Yesterday marked the 7th straight day of measureable rainfall. The strong onshore flow off the 80F Atlantic will provide one more day of brief spotty showers before the flow veers south Monday then offshore on Tuesday with fall's first significant FROPA.

1/1/2018 7:00 AM T M M M M Temperature at 7am observation was 58F, which will probably be the warmest reading for the entire week given the overcast sky today and several periods of Arctic CAA.
1/2/2018 7:00 AM 0.25 M M M M 51F at observation after an overnight low of 47F with wind sustained 20-25 mph from the NNE, gusting to near 40 mph between 2-3am. 1/3/2018 7:00 AM 0.66 M M M M At 7 am observation: 55F with light rain/drizzle, wind NNW 10. Coastal erosion during past several tidal cycles here in Daytona Beach Shores is more severe than from hurricanes Matthew and Irma due to the weakened condition of the dune and the duration of strong NE/N winds and timing of this winter storm event coinciding with the lunar cycle.
1/4/2018 7:00 AM 0.81 M M M M Morning low has teetered around 33F since 5 am, and very thin ice formed in puddle on top of black rain barrel. The breeze off the ocean during the day combined with increasing cloud cover will keep the high for today in the low 60's.
1/8/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 55F, the mildest low since the last day of 2017.

1/13/2018 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Yesterday's high was 83F. Fast-moving hit/miss pre-frontal showers accompanied by gusty SW/W winds raced in from the WSW in the afternoon, accounted for the 5th straight day of measureable precipitation.
1/14/2018 6:15 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Morning observation taken at 6 am: 41F, wind NW 9 mph. Yesterday's high barely made it to 60F given the cold air advection through the entire day and mostly cloudy sky.
1/15/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M While inland area temperatures bottomed out in the upper 30's and lower 40's, the overnight low never dropped below 50F here on Ponce Peninsula given the fresh NNE wind off the "mild" 55F Atlantic Ocean. However, the moderating effect of the brisk wind off of the ocean will keep the high today from reaching 60F while inland areas warm into the mid-60's.

5/13/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was a very sultry 75F. I expect today will be the last day of dry weather given the "tropical" moisture surge forecast to encompass the Florida peninsula this week. A 2-week early start to the rainy season will be very welcome given rain deficits up to 50% in many parts of east central Florida.
5/14/2018 6:00 AM 0.22 M M M M Light rain at 6 am. Overnight low was a 72F. Observation was taken an hour earlier than usual due to batch of heavy rainfall just to the south moving up the coast that will arrive within the hour.
5/15/2018 7:00 AM 1.09 M M M M Overnight low was 73F. Currently wind is SE 15 mph with overcast sky and a few sprinkles.
5/16/2018 7:00 AM 0.78 M M M M 24-hr low: 65F Several round of thunderstorms yesterday, the strongest which came though late in the afternoon. Hail and strong wind gusts were observed to the SW of my location. I observed mammatus and a temperature drop of 15 degrees down to a low of 65F following passage of the line of storms.
5/17/2018 7:00 AM 1.00 M M M M Overnight low was 73F. Exactly 1" of rain measured in past 24 hrs, bringing 3-day total to a little over 3". While several rounds of showers occurred, the bulk of the precipitation fell in a heavy thunderstorm shortly before 6 pm, and several close proximity lightning strikes were noted during the 10-minute deluge.

5/20/2018 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M Yesterday's high was 78F given the thick cloud cover, and consequently this was followed by a muggy overnight low of 74F with sprinkles of very light rain.
5/21/2018 8:00 AM 1.78 M M M M Several rounds of torrential rain (w/o lightning) started at 5 am this morning and continued until shortly before 8 am, delaying this morning's observation by an hour.
5/22/2018 7:00 AM 0.88 M M M M Morning low was 75F. Most of the 0.88" that fell the past 24 hrs occurred during yesterday morning's long-duration rain event. A wind gust from the south of 25 mph was observed around 5 am this morning during a brief pre-dawn rain shower.
5/23/2018 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Morning low was a pleasant 70F under a clear sky. Rain chance is only 30% today, so the odds favor a break in the 10-day streak of consecutive days with measureable rainfall that started on the 13th.

5/27/2018 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M overnight low was 75F. Precipitation was from a brief/heavy shower around 6 pm yesterday. Heavy band of showers lurking near the Cape early this morning should hit here later this morning.
5/28/2018 7:00 AM 0.36 M M M M Overnight low was 76F. Early morning brief/heavy shower shortly after yesterday's observation accounted for the 24-hr precipitation total.
5/29/2018 7:00 AM 0.35 M M M M A brief mid-afternoon shower with thunder just to the north accounted for another 1/3" of rain. Mosquitos are as bad as I have seen in many years given the 2-week period of rain not allowing standing water to evaporate or soak in.
5/30/2018 7:00 AM 0.46 M M M M 76F, overcast with sprinkles for this morning's observation.
5/31/2018 7:00 AM 1.71 M M M M Early afternoon, long duration thunderstorm added to the exceptionally wet May precipitation total. I observed localized street and yard flooding in Port Orange and inland Daytona Beach where 2-4" of rain fell on top of saturated ground.
6/1/2018 7:00 AM 1.31 M M M M A heavy late afternoon thunderstorm followed by several hours of light to moderate "decaying storm" rainfall added to the exceptionally wet May total of 11.19 inches.

6/3/2018 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Yesterday's "blow-off" sprinkle from a late afternoon thunderstorm complex dropping SE down the Florida peninsula accounted for the 8th straight day of measureable precipitation. Starting May 13th, rainfall has been recorded on 18 of the last 21 days.

6/7/2018 7:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Overnight low was a very pleasant 72F. Several brief showers (no thunder) accounted for the wetting rain. The first very light shower deposited 0.05" in the early afternoon, then a very brief "cloud-burst" type heavier shower arrived shortly after sunset and added 0.10 to the day's total.
6/8/2018 7:00 AM 0.75 M M M M Morning low 73F. Yesterday's rainfall was accompanied by numerous cloud to ground lightning strikes during the height of the thunderstorm around 6pm, then as the storm drifted SE while decaying, a very impressive/expansive cloud to cloud lightning display with "sonic boom" thunder.
6/9/2018 7:00 AM 1.44 M M M M After a steamy, light wind day with a high of 90F, outflow from yesterday's late afternoon thunderstorms (which produced hail inland) dropped temperature down into the low 70's before sunset. Consequently this morning's low was a pleasant 70F.
6/10/2018 7:00 AM 0.23 M M M M Yesterday's brief mid-afternoon thunderstorm came out of the west with a lot of bluster but quickly pushed offshore and dissipated without dropping much rain at my location.

6/13/2018 7:00 AM 0.10 M M M M Much greater rainfall totals were observed along the coast to the north of my location. As the light rain shower concluded, enjoyed a full double rainbow visible in the SE shortly before sunset that stretched from the Atlantic Ocean to the Halifax River.
6/14/2018 7:00 AM 0.30 M M M M Mid-afternoon thunderstorm with frequent lightning, followed by very humid, partly sunny sky, then blow-off drizzle from a late evening inland thunderstorm.
6/15/2018 7:00 AM 0.08 M M M M
6/16/2018 7:00 AM 0.16 M M M M Morning low was 74F. A heavy late afternoon thunderstorm dropping down the peninsula from the NW passed by just south of my location, dumping up to 2" of rain in New Smyrna Beach but only 0.15" here. More early evening inland thunderstorms made a run toward the coast after sunset, falling apart west of I-95 with only 0.01" of additional accumulation around 10:30pm last night. After 5 straight days of measureable rainfall, the total accumulation has barely topped one inch. I'd like to get a good soaker this weekend before the drier weather in the forecast for next week settles in.

6/23/2018 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Missed out on the opportunity to pad the monthly rain total yesterday when thunderstorms skirted around my rain gauge. Areas just to the west and south measured over an inch of rain while my location had several very close proximity lightning strikes.

7/13/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Rain chance increasing for inland areas, however my location one block from the Atlantic is likely to see the 3-week long drought continue given the daily afternoon sea breeze keeping storms from reaching the coast.

7/15/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Only 1/4" of rain as fallen here so far in July, and less than an inch since June 21st. Today's rain chance for Daytona Beach is 40%, however I expect the scattered afternoon thunderstorm coverage to stay inland to the west of where I live near the beach given the sea breeze dominant relatively weak synoptic steering environment. Consequently, our best chance for an isolated storm will come if an outflow boundary from inland convection propagates back to the coast.
7/16/2018 7:00 AM 1.37 M M M M A heavy/isolated early afternoon thunderstorm built overhead and then moved very little, dumping more rain in 30 minutes than measured in the last 3 weeks. 7/28/2018 7:00 AM 0.48 M M M M Late afternoon thunderstorm quickly dropped temperature from 90F down to 74F in 30 minutes.
7/29/2018 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Heavy sea breeze induced thunderstorms lined up across the Halifax River just to the west of the beach yesterday mid-afternoon, but were unable to push back to the coast given the collapse of the mid-level westerly steering flow that was in place all last week.
7/30/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Most of east central Florida has received above to well above normal rainfall this July. With 2 more days to go, my recording station has only measured 4.73", (approx. 1" below normal for the month).
7/31/2018 7:00 AM 1.44 M M M M The greatest one day rain event since June 21st brings the month's total up to a near normal 6" with one more day to add to it. Also of note, yesterday's rainfall was only the 4th time daily total an inch or more recorded since June 1st.

8/2/2018 7:00 AM 0.24 M M M M 2 rounds of brief early afternoon showers moved up the peninsula from the south, depositing 1/10th of an inch each. Late in the afternoon an inland thunderstorm approached from the SW, producing a wind gust to 55 mph (est) but only 0,04" of rain.

8/10/2018 7:00 AM 0.69 M M M M Warmest daytime high of the summer, 97F observed at 2:45 pm. Around 5 pm a strong afternoon thunderstorm cluster built 10 miles to the WNW, then dropped SE across the coast. 8/18/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Crystal clear but a sultry mid-August early morning here in coastal Volusia County with an overnight low temperature of 77F. A near zero (10%) chance of rain today on my 60th (arghh!) birthday with a high of around 91F forecast before the sea breeze kicks in.
8/19/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 75F with no clouds but some haze (residual Saharan dust?) at sunrise. Rainfall to date this month at my location is 30% of normal, and another dry day is expected on the coast of east central Florida. Hopefully the forecast for afternoon/evening thunderstorms pushing back to the east coast will come to fruition the upcoming week.

8/24/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Copious rainfall yesterday is some parts of east central Florida near Orlando and Titusville to Melbourne, but nothing at my coastal location in what is shaping up to be the driest August that I have observed in 25 years of weather watching at 3 different locations in east central Florida. With only a week remaining, August rainfall (to date) at my central Volusia coastal station stands at 2.20".

8/26/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Thunder was heard for several hours yesterday mid-afternoon and the sky was dark across the Halifax River, but the steering flow off the Atlantic kept the storms from drifting back to the coast. At least there was some high "blow-of" cloud cover from the inland storms to mitigate the dry conditions here at the coast.
8/28/2018 7:00 AM 0.72 M M M M HURRAY! Finally a meaningful August rain event at my coastal location in central Volusia County. 6/10ths of an inch measured yesterday afternoon in a series of moderate showers (some with lightning) that drifted onshore. Off/on light rain showers noted before sunrise today, adding another 0.12" to the greatest 24-hr total received to date in August.

8/31/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A handful of close proximity lightning strikes noted at sunrise from an isolated thunderstorm that crossed the coast just to the north of my location.
9/1/2018 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Same as yesterday, an isolated thunderstorm came ashore shortly before sunrise just north of my location with close proximity lightning but no rain finding its way into my gauge. The calendar month concludes with only 3.08" measured here one block from the Atlantic Ocean in Daytona Beach Shores, which is around 50% of normal precipitation for August.
9/2/2018 7:00 AM T M M M M A light early afternoon sprinkle yesterday did not completely wet the ground or help mitigate the relatively dry "wet" season month of August 2018.
9/3/2018 7:00 AM 0.08 M M M M Mostly cloudy at sunrise with showers looming out over the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. After a sunny/dry day, a brief moderate shower over the Atlantic raced onshore from the east, accompanied by a few rumbles of thunder and wind gusting to 30 mph.
9/4/2018 7:00 AM 0.48 M M M M A period of moderate to heavy rain accompanied by gusty east wind to 30 mph was noted yesterday afternoon between 4-5 pm. This beneficial precipitation was associated with the fringe of tropical storm Gordon's circulation as it passed by the southern tip of Florida.

9/6/2018 7:00 AM 0.14 M M M M A brief moderate shower came ashore with the increasingly moist flow off the Atlantic to provide beneficial pre-dawn precipitation.

9/8/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The week-long easterly flow off the warm Atlantic Ocean finally relaxed before dawn this morning, allowing for the morning low to drop to 74F, the "coolest" in a long time.
9/9/2018 7:00 AM 0.19 M M M M A mid-morning shower yesterday that moved onshore off the Atlantic Ocean provided the beneficial rainfall.

9/13/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 2 weeks into September and less than one inch measured to date. After an August with less than 50% normal precipitation, the immediate central Volusia County coast is now in moderate drought. With only 3-4 weeks remaining in the "wet" season, time is running out to mitigate the dry conditions, and the forecast does not hold much hope for rain until next week.
9/14/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another dry day is forecast today, and rain chance will remain low through the weekend into early next week.
9/15/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday's high temperature was 94F- one of the warmest of the summer. Lawns w/o irrigation in the coastal area of central Volusia County where I live are parched from the well below normal rainfall over the past 6 weeks and now the excessive heat.
9/16/2018 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Yesterday's high temperature of 95.5F was the warmest of summer 2018 at my location one block off the Atlantic Ocean in Daytona Beach Shores. A brief, barely measureable sprinkle was observed around 2 pm, adding humidity to the oppressive heat. Later in the afternoon, an isolated thunderstorm embedded in the westerly flow formed just inland around 4 pm, then tracked ESE out into the Atlantic. Though no rain fell here, lightning from the storm closed the beach to swimming and surfing for 45 minutes.
9/17/2018 7:00 AM T M M M M I observed 97F yesterday afternoon at my location, the highest I have recorded since establishing a weather station in April 2015. An isolated late afternoon thunderstorm pushed off the coast just south of here, providing a lightning show out over the Atlantic Ocean at sunset. It has been exceptionally dry at my location since the end of July with less than 30% of normal rainfall received the last 47 days.
9/18/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still no rain to mitigate the hot/dry conditions. Yesterday was another dry sunny day at Volusia County's central coast, though a fresh sea breeze from the SE kept the high temperature in the low 90's following the weekend's west wind induced mid to upper 90's.
9/19/2018 7:00 AM 0.08 M M M M The measureable but meager 0.08 fell in two separate showers, the first around 1 pm was a sun shower without lightning, the second was blow-off from an inland thunderstorm around 4 pm that built up several miles to the west.

9/28/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M In my 30 years of observing precipitation at three different locations in east central Florida, September 2018 will be the driest September (only 1.07" to date) if no additional rainfall occurs by weekend's end.
9/29/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday's high was 91F, cruelly desiccating the parched central Volusia coast where less than 20% of normal rainfall has been measured in September. We did not have a single cloud until late afternoon when blow-off from towering thunderstorms well inland from the coast shielded the setting sun.
9/30/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was another very warm, dry day. Thankfully there were a few more clouds throughout the day than the past week, holding the high temperature near the coast to around 90F.
