Today, i think it is a little short but cannot get an accurate measurement on the grass. {EDIT: Observer reported 1.0 for new and total snow depth with a new melted core vale of 1.10 and a total melted core value of 1.20. Today one says it is 2.3 degrees and the other that it is 15.1 degrees w/a humidity of 67%. I guess I will have to take my hand-held unit out. Handheld temp of 14.4 degrees. Barometer 29.41 Hg; overcast skies; w/gusty light air from the West; and no frost. The coldest windchill I measured was 14.1 degrees but the wind had died down close to calm air. Water equivalents are by weight.

Yesterday's warm temps and wind both evaporated and compacted it considerably, but what remains is heavy ice. The frost on my gauge would yield 0.002" of moisture if the frost were evenly spread across the ground and, therefore, might be included in the total water equivalent reported.

I had the same 3 to 4 tenths inch of snow across most of my driveway along with a 16" drift in front of the doors. My gauge is located on what was the leeward side of the house, whereas my snow board is located on what was the windward side of the house. My whole yard is either feast or famine, drifts or a dusting.

AS you know temps rose above freezing yesterday so that all the previous snow melted and, although it snowed most of the day, that snow melted on contact with the ground until the temperature dropped below freezing again. The total snow on the ground would average 0.1" due to uneven coverage, and my board sample was 0.2". I did not record a new snowfall sample because I am sure we received about 1" had it not melted. Also, the total snow measurement is from my board because it would be impossible to get a sample of the uneven snow frozen to the grass.

To the best of my knowledge, the reported precip all fell as rain on Thursday. The high winds in the afternoon and evening dried off the paved surfaces and I never observed any freezing rain or snow. We still have a trace of snow/ice in the rural ditches that I can see from my station.
