Overnight the winds were light E. The ground is getting pretty dry and the leaves are falling off of the trees. I'm wondering if there's going to be much fall color from the maple tree since it's losing a lot of its leaves.

Periods of heavy rain fell through the morning and afternoon yesterday mixed with near constant rain. Light E winds in the morning shifted to light N winds by late afternoon into the late evening. By evening the rain turned to light rain and drizzle and finally ended early in the morning hours. The winds shifted to light W and SW and it remained cloudy.

The daytime high temp was 63F in the afternoon with dew points in the mid 50s the rest of the day and overnight. The skies remained overcast through the entire period with moderate W winds shifting occasionally to the NW. The winds were gusty at times out of the W at 23 mph. It remained dry through the period with scattered light rain in the vicinity.

Winds in the morning were moderate S to SW with gusts up to 25 mph. A strong cold front approached the area from the W and NW in the afternoon with strong NW winds gusting up to 45 mph. Light rain accompanied the front but was very brief in occurrence. The skies remained cloudy with moderate gusty NW winds until after midnight when the skies began to clear some to mostly cloudy. NW winds diminished to light winds and the temps dropped back into the low 50s.

Partly cloudy skies in the afternoon allowed for more warming and it was a very nice fall day. Overnight, the winds were calm to light SE with mostly clear skies.

During the afternoon the mix continued to fall with gusty N winds as temps dropped into the high 20s by evening. The max wind gust for the day was out of the N at 44 mph during the evening. By late afternoon only light snow and snow was falling. The snow finally ended overnight with mostly clear skies and moderate N winds and temps in the high teens. Some drifting was observed but was at a minimum.

The temps dropped into the high teens in a couple of hours time during the evening and the arctic air returned to our region.

By afternoon the skies were overcast and the winds calm to light NE. Overnight, the temps remained above freezing with light rain and light E winds shifting to light to moderate N. There are frozen droplets of rain on the trees but the concrete surfaces are still liquid.

The temps finally warmed above the freezing mark during the afternoon and the skies became mostly cloudy with light NW and W winds. The winds shifted to light SW in the early evening before shifting back to light to moderate NW during the late evening and overnight. The skies became partly cloudy and then clear overnight with temps dropping back into the low 20s with light NW to calm winds.

After midnight the precip ended and the skies began to clear to partly cloudy with temps in the high to mid 20s.

During the early evening hours light drizzle and fog developed with temps increasing into the low 50s. Overnight, light drizzle changed into light rain and heavy rain showers with isolated thunderstorms. Light W winds gusted up to 21 mph during the heavy rains. The drainage ditches flowed well with some large pools of water but no flooding problems were observed here.

By early afternoon there were breaks in the light rain and drizzle but the skies remained overcast. Temps rose slowly from the low 50s to mid 50s through the morning and afternoon. By late afternoon and early evening the light rain turned to rain with variable light winds. During the late evening thunderstorms developed ahead of a squaw line with strong winds and heavy rain. Strong SW winds gusting up to 43 mph blew small limbs out of the trees and the drainage easements began to fill up again. The light rain and rain continued to fall through the night finally tapering off within the last hour. The airport recorded a new record rainfall for the date at 2.98 inches breaking the old record from 2011 of 2.31 inches. Multiple flash flood warnings were announced through the evening with many areas of the county reporting water rescues. The cold front is forecast to pass later this morning.

Moderate N winds were gusty up to 25 mph during the heavy snow bands in the morning. Temps dipped below freezing during the morning hours allowing the snow to stick to roadways and made for a tricky drive to work for many. During the afternoon the temps rose up into the upper 30s and allowed for melting. The yard has some bare spots but mostly it is snow covered up to around 2.5 inches. Overnight the winds became calm with clear skies and temps dipping back below freezing.

The winds diminished to light to moderate S during the afternoon and shifted to light N during the early evening as the overcast skies remained. Overnight, the winds became calm to light SW as light rain and rain began to fall. The ground is so saturated there are more puddles of water making it appear that we have received more rain than just the 0.17 inches.

We were under a tornado watch during most of the period. The winds remained gusty out of the SW shifting to the NW around midnight. Rain and heavy rain showers fell at times through the evening and overnight finally ending just after midnight. Temps dropped into the upper 30s overnight with the passage of the cold front.

Light rain ended about an hour or so before this observation.

The airport recorded a W wind gust up to 44 mph during a thunderstorm with sustained winds at 32 mph out of the W. The wind blew leaves out of trees and small limbs but no rain fell. The cool air from the outflow of the storm dropped temps down into the mid 70s after the storms passed during the early evening. Overnight, it remained dry with partial clearing to partly cloudy skies and light S winds. Maybe we'll get some rain today, it's getting awful dry and having to water the lawn and flowers is getting old.

A severe thunderstorm warning was posted earlier in the evening but no damage was observed here. Winds diminished overnight to light SW and S to light NW with cloudy to mostly cloudy skies.

The airport reported a new record rainfall of 2.35 surpassing the old record set in 1988. The morning skies were cloudy to mostly cloudy with light rain ending from a passing thunderstorm. The rest of the morning was dry with cloudy skies and light to moderate S winds. By afternoon the skies remained cloudy but were growing darker with storm clouds. The winds gusted up to 44 mph out of the SE at the airport from severe thunderstorms breaking out. Heavy rain fell in about 60 minutes with small hail about the size of dimes and quarters. The thunderstorms passed and it remained dry here until later in the evening when severe thunderstorms developed in the area again. Heavy rain and some small hail fell again during the early evening in thunderstorms with plenty of lightning. The rain finally ended before midnight and it remained dry overnight with light SW and S winds and mostly clear skies.

By evening the skies remained mostly cloudy with signs of clearing to the west with light SW winds. Overnight, the skies became clear with light SW winds.

Yesterday's high temp was 93F at 3:16 p.m. The morning skies were mostly clear changing to partly cloudy and then mostly cloudy by late morning. The winds were light S and SW shifting to light W by late morning. The clouds decreased to partly cloudy by early afternoon and it got very hot and humid. The winds became variable with gusts up to 18 mph during the mid afternoon for a short time and then became light W again the rest of the afternoon. The skies remained partly cloudy through the rest of the afternoon and then mostly clear to clear by evening. Overnight, it remained dry with clear skies and calm to light SE winds.

Yesterday's high temp was 93F at 5:01 p.m. The morning skies were mostly sunny with calm to light and variable winds. By early afternoon the winds shifted to light to moderate W with partly cloudy skies. By late afternoon the skies became mostly cloudy with cumulus clouds and mid level clouds. It looked like it might rain but it didn't and stayed dry through the entire period. During the evening it became partly cloudy again with light SW to light E and SE winds. Overnight it became mostly clear to clear with light SE winds.

By evening the skies were clear with light to moderate SE winds gusting up to 22 mph occasionally. Overnight, the skies remained clear to mostly clear with light to moderate S winds gusting up to 18 mph occasionally.

Yesterday's high temp was 91F at 1:31 p.m. The morning skies were mostly cloudy to mostly sunny with a brief light rain shower before the clouds decreased. The winds were moderate out of the S early and SW gusting up to 25 mph during the early afternoon. The winds shifted to moderate NW with gusts up to 33 mph during the mid afternoon and the clouds increased to mostly cloudy. More light rain fell briefly during the late afternoon and early evening but didn't amount to anything other than a trace. Overnight, the skies remained mostly cloudy to cloudy with light to moderate N winds.

Yesterday's high temp was 74F at 12:05 a.m. The morning skies were overcast with light to moderate NE winds. By late morning light rain began to fall on and off. By mid afternoon the light rain changed to rain off and on with light N winds. The temps remained in the mid to upper 60s through the afternoon. Light rain continued to fall through the rest of the evening changing to light drizzle by late evening. The precip stopped for several hours overnight but started back up again as light rain by early morning changing to heavy rain a couple hours before this observation. The winds were still light to moderate N.

Yesterday's high temp was 68F at 7:56 p.m. The morning skies were overcast with heavy rain for a couple of hours after the morning observation and light N winds. The heavy rain changed to light rain for the remainder of the morning. The rain ended by early afternoon and the skies remained overcast through the afternoon and evening with light E winds. Overnight, light rain and drizzle fell off and on with light E winds.

Yesterday's high temp was 74F at 5:40 p.m. The morning skies were overcast and filled with heavy rain to moderate rain with light E winds early shifting to light SW, S and SE by late morning. The heavy rain lasted until early afternoon and then tapered off to light rain for several hours. There were some breaks in the rain about mid afternoon but then started back up again with light rain during the late afternoon into early evening when there was several hours without rain into the late evening. There was a brief period of drizzle and light rain overnight but it stayed mainly dry until just about 30 minutes before the morning obs and it poured down briefly. Temps remained in the low 70s overnight. Winds were light to moderate SE to S overnight. The NWS reported a new record rainfall for the date at Louisville International Airport with 2.49 inches of rain breaking the old record of 1.75 in 1926.

Yesterday's high temp was 83F at 1:36 p.m. The morning skies were cloudy to mostly cloudy with light to moderate S winds, gusting occasionally up to 26 mph through the early afternoon. The winds shifted to light SW during the mid afternoon with thunderstorms developing in the area. Light rain and rain fell on and off for several hours and then ended by early evening. The skies became mostly cloudy by early evening with enough breaks to see the nearly full moon. The winds shifted to light to moderate S during the evening. After midnight another round of thunderstorms developed and heavy rain fell for a short time and turned to light rain before tapering off and ending before this obs. The winds shifted to light SW to W. With this rainfall, the NWS reported that this September is now the wettest on record for Louisville Metro area.

Yesterday's high temp was 77F at 12:05 a.m. The temps slowly decreased through the early morning and never got above 74F the rest of the day. The morning skies were overcast with light rain in the morning ending by mid morning. The winds were calm becoming light to moderate NW to N with some gusts up to 23 mph in the late morning. The skies became mostly cloudy by mid afternoon and by early evening to partly cloudy with moderate to light N winds. During the late evening the clouds increased again and it became overcast overnight with light N to NE winds. Temps fell into the mid to lower 60s overnight with low 50s for dew points.

Yesterday's high temp was 63F at 5:24 p.m. The morning skies were overcast with brief breaks in the cloud cover during the morning and light NE winds. By early afternoon light rain developed in the Louisville Metro area and finally ended by early evening. The winds shifted to light E during the mid afternoon but shifted to moderate NW with gusts up to 17 mph during the late afternoon and early evening. After sunset the clouds decreased in cover to partly cloudy and the winds decreased to light and variable. Overnight, the skies became mostly clear with fog forming and the winds were calm.

Yesterday's high temp was 72F at 4:39 p.m. The morning skies were filled with dense fog until late morning with calm to light SE and E winds. After the fog lifted the skies were overcast until early afternoon with light SE winds. The rest of the afternoon the skies remained mostly sunny and dry. The temps rebounded nicely into the high 60s to low 70s during the afternoon. During the evening and overnight the skies remained mostly clear to clear with calm to light winds shifting to light N during the early morning hours. Temps dropped back into the high 50s with dew points in the mid 50s. No fog had developed yet at this obs.

Yesterday's high temp was 77F at 4:24 p.m. The morning skies were mostly clear and only briefly mostly cloudy to partly cloudy during mid morning. Skies remained mostly sunny with just a few clouds through the afternoon with light N to NE winds with an occasional gust up to 16 mph out of the N. It was a beautiful day to catch up on yard work. By early evening the skies were still mostly clear with light E winds. Through the evening and overnight it remained dry with clear skies and calm to light SE to light S winds.
