It was a dark and stormy night. Neither the cat nor I got a wink of sleep. Overcast and breezy in the morning, gradually turning into a tropical storm day and night. Just a couple power blips; surprised power has otherwise stayed on. Heavy rain at 1706, but never lost satellite TV. Very heavy rain at 2247. Inner gauge overflowed at 2300. Constant howling and roaring wind all night, with rain pounding the windows. Sometimes sounding like a cat-o'-nine-tails. Wind and rain activated motion sensor floodlight on garage. A break before dawn, but wind resumed upon crawling out of bed. Read 1.30" in gauge, for a total of 2.30". A gross under-reading to me; perhaps much sideways rain missed. Light blowing rain, fierce winds, and 75.4°. Incomplete survey of outdoors, but there is a huge dead limb in my backyard, and a couple large downed trees in the area. Light blowing rain in the morning. Heavy rain and high wind at 0900, and it went on from there. Heaviest rain was in a band at 1600. I never really lost power, but had several burps enough to cause DirecTV to reboot and thermostats reset time and date to default. Discovered a water leak in a room at the ceiling; no cascading water, just a large water stain from ceiling to baseboard. Maybe leak in flashing around chimney? Still moderate rain and high winds at bedtime, but a noticeable change in the air. Light rain, breezy, and 75.9° at obs time. Temp hadn't changed from about 75° for the duration. Much leaf and small limb debris in the yard. High water from hill drainage through my yard has receded. Young longleaf pine (about 7' tall) keeled over, but I will set it upright and re-stake. Same thing happened in Sep 2016 during TS Hermine; thought it was big enough to keep upright without stake this time. I have been blessed to have survived Florence with these mere problems.
