The new snow this morning after hours of rain yesterday was measured oddly this morning: only 2.0 inches depth on my snow board (and on my concrete front steps), but 3.0 inches average depth on the ground! Could the rain have warmed the snow board and steps so that the first snow inch melted, but the ground wasn't so warmed? Why the dramatic difference? I reported both new snow and total snow as 3.0 inches, and that 3.0 inches had a SWE of 0.26. Note: since I don't put out a rain gauge, but there was significant rain yesterday and into this morning (I was up until 12:30am and the snow had not started), I did not report the 0.26 in. SWE also as the "rain and melted snow fallen in the gauge" amount, which would have been a huge understatement of the actual amount. |

Flurries throughout the day yesterday with little accumulation, but then an intense time of flurries resulted in 0.5 inches on the ground by 7pm. This morning, maybe 1/3 of the yard still has some patchy snow, a Trace is left on my snow board, though it's still 0.5 inches deep on my deck and my neighbor's car which never moved yesterday or so far today. |
