Rain has just shown up on radar about 75 miles off the northern coast of Oregon.

Barometer fell to 29.57"Hg at 1:50pm an now stands at 29.79"Hg and rising. Max wind gust was 19mph from the west at 3:56pm. Heaviest rain intensity fell between 3-4pm and nearly the same intensity between 4-5am this morning, both times at near or more than a rate of .75"/hr. Currently 42°f and raining moderately.

McCully Mountain, heaviest precip started falling at 2:25pm in the form of hail, lasting about 4-5 minutes. Thunder and lightning came with at least 6 peals of thunder, at approximately and hour later at 3:30pm, The high temp yesterday was 55°f, the low was at the time of the hail storm dipping down to 37°f. Barometer 29.90"Hg and falling. Max wind gust was 21mph from the west at 2:19pm. Heaviest precip fell as hail starting an with 1/4 inch hail, covering about 60% of the ground. The overnight low was 39°f. currently raining very lightly.
10/22/2017 7:30 AM 3.23 0.0 M 0.0 M Rain yesterday on McCully Mountain was maybe at best moderate. Overnight was a different story as 2.51 inches heavy rain fell since midnight giving a 24 hour total of 3.23 inches. Along with the rain, wind played and another exciting few moments in time near 1:30am. The howling wind caused a tree to split in halve, sending the only tree near the house crashing into the corner of our home. Can't yet tell how much damage was done, but at minimum the rain gutter did not survive. It sounded like thunder as the tree split and fell in several directions. Then we heard metal crumpling as the tree fell over the roof. Max wind gust was 31mph from the west at 12:00 midnight an hour a half before the tree fell in another gust of wind.---------------------- After all of the events of the night had occurred. It was very hard to get back to bed and sleep. So my wife read from her book by W. Bruce Cameron, "Emory's Gift," She has been reading the book for a few weeks. The 1st paragraph she read as she settled into bed was from chapter 33. "There are days when the weather comes storming out of the north and lashes the area so violently it's easy to believe Nature has completely lost her temper over something"... I guess so, I think that this was the second most rainfall that has fallen in a 24hr period of time since we came here to live in 1985. I must check the records on this one.

The wind was acting very chaotic in the late afternoon before any rain began to fall, a changing wind from east west then back again several times, with winds strong enough to fall any weak tree, no trees fell, but when you are among these trees your looking in all direction hoping not to hear that sound of a cracking tree beginning to fall. Max recorded wind gust was only 22mph from the west. Currently barometer at 29.89"Hg and has been rising. A strongest shower hit between 4 and 5am dumping .11 in less than two minutes, but the most rain per hour fell between 8:00-10:00pm with an accumulation of over .60"+ in 2 hours.

Total rain for the month on McCully Mountain was 10.41 inches, total for the rain year Oct 1-Jan 31 is 41.14"

I accidentally took my observation at 6:00am oops! So at that particular moment in time the sky was dark and my head lamp showed that I was in a blinding blizzard. As I write this message the snow has calmed down a lot. It is still snowing lightly and there is an inch on the ground. but not as wild as it was at the top of the 6:00am hour, My alarm clock was set to go off an hour earlier. Just gentle snow flakes now have continued as it gets brighter outside I realized that it is now 7:00am. The high temperature yesterday 45°f. The overnight low was 30°f. 3/24/2018 7:10 AM 0.86 4.5 M 6.5 M Our weather station on McCully Mountain is at an elevation of 1667ft. Just to let you all know we are not on the valley floor. It is a beautiful white wonderland outside this morning. Steady snow continued through out the daylight hours with one exception of a short period of rain for about a half an hour, turning back into snow, only about .25" of snow accumulation by sundown. Then we began to get about 2" over an hour or so. The snow had a texture of clinging onto everything. The snow that fell into the pond water looked like ice that held up the grains/ kernels I feed my ducks with. The temperature of the water was 40° so I was surprised that the snow did not melt instantly. Overnight we had an accumulation of 4.5" of new snow. Total on the ground is 6.5". The high temperature yesterday 34°f. and the overnight low was 31°f. Wind gust max over the last 24hours was 14mph from the northwest. However the anemometer froze at midnight. Barometer is now at 29.93"Hg and rising very slowly.

I rushed to the lower pasture and brought our goats into the safety of the barn. We also had a rather extreme heavy down pour in the late evening between 10 and 11:00pm. No thunder with the heavy shower and Radar did not show what the intensity really was. Being that the rain was coming down at a rate of over 4" per hour. It was interesting to note our cat growled at the sound made by the heavy rain on the roof. One could say it was raining cats and dogs but I think it was more like "Mountain Lions and Bears." Remnants of what looked like a thunderstorm dissipating on east side of the Cascades lasted long enough to have a few drops of rain fall here on the west side in the afternoon over McCully Mountain. The heaviest rain only lasting about 10 minutes between 5- 6:00pm. The high temperature was 84°f then dropping 26° to 58°f in only an hours time during the storm. Over night the low was 47°f. The warmest day was 87°f and the coolest was a couple of 39°f mornings. The average temp was 57.1°f Thunder was heard on 3 days in June. Strongest gust was 23mph on two days, both days associated with thunderstorms. Hopefully we will have some rain in July as last year we had zero inches of precip for July and August was not much better.

I thought it might be a flower but it was not a flower. At the bottom intersection. I saw that the pavement has been sprinkled large drops from a rain shower. Now I know how an Elephant finds water in the dry land of Africa. Elephants can smell the same wonderful and delightful smell of rain falling over arid land. It leads them on a great migration of many miles in search of water. Speaking of arid land, it has been 14 days since we have had any measurable precipitation.

3/14/2018 12:08 AM The hail came down rather hard, then harder before letting up. The ground began to turn white. It was hard to find any hail to examine, because it melted so quickly, within a minute or less. The car windshield was the only place in which it accumulated so that I could pick up a sample. The size of the hail was what I would call smaller than rice, say not more than 1/10th to 1/12th of and inch in diameter.
