Abt 0.7 inches prec fr the 4.6 inches of snow.
Early snowfall was largely melting on contact due to warm surfaces, above zero temps and being on the windward side of a "warm" lake. Also it was not accumulating in my unofficial gauge due to firm NE wind. Therefore I suspect we had somewhat more than 0.7" of prec. Also I strongly suspect there is more snow accumulation in the lee of the lake and away from the lake as well. Also, total snow on ground due to above reasons also is quite variable, from abt 1/2 inch to close to 5"
Very light snow continues at observation time.

Yesterday was strange. We had 2 good spurts of snow before noon, each spurt was measured after it fell because of melting and occasional showings of sun. Another 1/2 cm fell late day after temps dropped.Therefore no reliable snow core measure was to be had, only the gauge reading.
The total snow readings can only be used as a guide now as to how things are trending as the reality is quite variable in my area from bare spots to areas of fairly thick cover. |

My location for accumulated snow measurements, while great for winter use is subject to quicker then avg loss with spring warm and sun and is now bare. On the landscape around home we have abt a 70% snowcover on avg depending on sun exposure, tree cover, sheltered, etc. Depths range from 13 - 30 cm of wet dense snow where snow exists for a reasonable avg of abt 21.6 cm holding 78.5 mm of water.

This is a wacky report! The event ended gradually last night as the last of the light snow slowly wound down. Snow yesterday morn was partially melting on contact or shortly after settling on my obs board so not readable. However the water/snow in the gauge read 0.5 mm. Snow began in the evening again and ended sometime in the night, leaving 1.5 cm on the board = 1.5 mm water equivalent. The gauge recorded 1.1 mm overnight ( to = 1.6 mm for 24 hrs) Hence the wacky 24 hr results. Total snow is only a guess/guide to actual. Snow cover is back to 100% (very temporarily) and the top 5 cm is the recent snow settling into the snowpack. Cover before the recent snow was coming down closer to 50%.
