At that time, ice pellets and freezing rain were occurring and the temperature rose overnight and rain fell. By morning observation time, there was only a little bit of crusty ice pellets on the snow board (0.3 mm WE). But the gauge contained mostly water (WE of 7.4 mm). I used the two amounts from the gauge for a total precip. (= 15.6 mm). At observation time the total snow and ice on the ground varied from 6.0 to 10.0 cm.

At obs. time on 02 Jan., there was only a trace of WE in the gauge, but the depth of snow on the snowboard varied from 0.5 to 3.5 cm (mean = 2cm) and the WE was 4.8 mm. The depth of total snow varied from 12 to 18 cm (mean = 15 cm).

Overnight, the temp. fell giving rise to more freezing rain. It was -4C by 07:00 a.m. At 07:00 p.m., I measured precip. which by then included snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and rain: there was 11 cm on the snow board resulting in a core WE of 28.5 mm. The snow gauge WE was 25.2 mm. The snow gauge was replaced by the rain gauge until 11:35 p.m. when it yielded 6.4 mm of rain. The WE of the frozen and freezing rain (and perhaps snow?)in the snow gauge at 07:08 on the 21st was 9.0 mm. So the total precip. (28.5 + 6.4 + 9.0) is 43.9 mm. The depth of total snow and ice at 07:00 p.m. varied from 24 to 44 cm (mean ~ 34 cm) but by morning it varied from zero to 27 cm.
