10/8/2018 8:00 AM 0.45 0.6 0.11 M M Fog all day with occasional misty rains. Rain turned to snow during the night. Gauge had about 0.5" of slushy water. Snow on raised surfaces was sampled for the core measurement because snow on the ground was melting and spotty.
10/9/2018 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Misty fog with occasional spitting snow most of the day.
10/10/2018 8:00 AM 0.17 1.3 0.17 M M New snowfall measured from the gauge because snow on the ground and raised surfaces had melted considerably during the day. Fog or low clouds all day.
10/11/2018 8:00 AM 0.08 0.2 0.08 M M Fog and low clouds all day again with snow showers through the afternoon, evening and night. Some melting occurred in the afternoon when the sun nearly came out a couple of times.
10/12/2018 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A light, white frost on the grasses and deck, but no precipitation for the first day in several. All previous snow melted yesterday.

10/14/2018 8:00 AM 0.10 0.7 0.10 0.7 0.10 First snow fell between 12:00 midnight and 1:30 am with not much added through the rest of the night. Surfaces were coated with a thin rime of ice before the snow. Fog and snow showers continuing this morning with light winds. Measurements of new snow and total snow (it is all new) were taken from the gauge because the wind is clearing and drifting the light flakes from all the usual surfaces, but the gauge seems to be a good approximation for all measurements.
10/15/2018 8:00 AM 0.02 0.2 0.02 0.9 0.12 Light flurries throughout the morning and into the afternoon, with a band of heavier (but still light) snow mid-afternoon. Mostly over by about 5:30 pm. A scant 0.2" in the gauge with some frost on top. Total for the storm was estimated at 0.9", certainly less than an inch.

3/14/2019 8:00 AM 1.11 11.5 4.32 11.5 4.32 Snowing at time of yesterday's report, continued through the day until after dark. High winds caused blowing and drifting, so ground was covered from 1" (frozen from the warm ground) to nearly 6' in the biggest drifts. Used an average of 11.5", but this may be low because I couldn't get into the deepest places! High winds also likely caused much of the snow to bypass the gauge which had about 8" in it, but that melted quickly when hot water was poured in yielding the small 1.11" of melted precipitation after subtracting the added water. Sunny this morning, but wind is still high and still blowing the snow at report time.

3/18/2019 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 6.5 2.18 Very light frost on raised surfaces this morning. Total snow and ice core taken close to the one taken on Thursday morning, after the blizzard, but is still very approximate. Much melting has taken place: Areas that were blown clear or with little accumulation due to the high winds are now nearly clear (perhaps 40%); but areas of deeper accumulation have melted less and are still up to several feet deep. The refreezing made it very hard to get my measuring stick through the snow to check for an average. Had to use a real shovel to dig around the tube to get the core out. Actual snow and ice thickness of the core was 6.4", but this did not include a layer of ice on the ground that was not recoverable.

Light winds throughout the storm. Precipitation ended before daylight. New snow and melt measurement likely did not recover the prior rain resulting in lower melt numbers than from the gauge. Old snow on the ground covered maybe 40%, but that varied from zero to 3 feet in the drifted areas, still very hard to estimate the average.
3/24/2019 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M Very light frost this morning. Most, if not all, of yesterday's snow has melted/evaporated, and much of that soaked into the ground adding to our mud season.

About 20% of the ground is still covered with snow ranging from zero to between 4 feet and 5 feet in depth in drifted and shaded areas. 4/27/2019 8:00 AM T M M M M At least 3 brief rain showers: first at about 1:55 pm; second at about 7:40 pm and third at about 12:10 am (or was it 12:40 am, too asleep to remember for sure). All left only a Trace in the gauge although enough rain fell at the time to cover the deck. Fog came in this morning with the little front, about 6:15 am dropping visibility to less than 1/8 mile, but lifted and broke up after 7:30 and now the sun is shining.

4/30/2019 8:00 AM 0.07 0.9 0.10 M M First precipitation was snow at 6:35 pm, with accumulation starting about 6:50, and mostly ending around 8:00 pm. May have been snow showers during the night. A rain/peletal snow shower about 6:30 am and ending about 7:00 am melted much of the previous snow. Fog blew in on a southeast wind about 8:00 am and continues now at 9:00 am with visibility less than 1/8 mile.
5/1/2019 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M A brief shower about 6:30 pm. Maybe more overnight or was it just the fog?
5/2/2019 8:00 AM 0.07 0.6 0.04 M M These measurements are probably significantly under representing the precipitation which fell mostly as snow and was melting quickly. What was measured was about half of what originally accumulated. First precipitation fell as sprinkles and fog about 12:00 pm followed by snow and mostly graupel about 12:25 pm, ending about 12:50. Another round of accumulating snow began about 5:30 pm, falling as large flakes to an estimated depth of about an inch although it was melting as it fell, and mostly ending about 6:35 pm.

5/7/2019 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Brief, light sprinkle from a storm moving east and centered to our north about 5:00 pm until about 5:15 pm left only a Trace. 5/8/2019 8:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Fog and misty low clouds most of the day. Rain showers this morning before light probably put most of the precipitation in the gauge.
5/9/2019 8:00 AM 0.50 2.2 0.32 M M Drizzle much of the day, turning to snow about 6:30 pm. In gauge was 0.3" of ice with 2.5" snow on top, all of which melted to 0.50". On a raised surface, core found 2.2" of snow which melted to 0.32" of water. No ice recovered there and less than gauge depth of snow, too. On ground snow depth varies from 0.0" in scattered places to about 2.2" in others. Very light snow continues at report time.
5/10/2019 8:00 AM 0.06 T M M M More melting than accumulation during the day. The gauge measurement is from melted ice in the bottom. No measurement of new snow was possible due to the melting, but most of the precipitation was in the form of snow throughout the day.

5/19/2019 8:00 AM 0.05 T M M M From about 11:00 am to about 12:30 pm, we had soft, white hail, graupel, snow and light rain. Snow and hail all melted quickly. Another light snow shower in mid afternoon, times unknown. Gauge was emptied about 6:00 pm, with no further accumulation overnight.
5/20/2019 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Very brief, light rain shower about 5:35 pm left only a Trace. Fog/drizzle/light rain started after 3:30 am and continues at report time providing most of the gauge reading of 0.05".
5/21/2019 8:00 AM 2.01 15.7 1.85 15.7 1.85 Rain/snow from report time yesterday until about 10 am, followed by several lengthy snow showers during the rest of the morning and into the afternoon with accumulation sticking by 2 pm when snow became steady. By 5 pm, snow depth was about 2.8"; at 9 pm depth was 8.5" and this morning at 6 am depth was 12.6" on the same deck post (2'x2'). Gauge was over topped with about 13" of snow on top of about 3/4" of ice in the bottom, all of which melted to 2.01". The core from the ground was taken in an area where the snow averaged 15.7" deep (which seemed to be a good general depth based on multiple measurements from a wide area) and melted to 1.85" with no ice recovery. Still snowing lightly at report time.
5/22/2019 8:00 AM T T T M M Snow from the main storm ended about 9 am, but brief snow showers occurred during the day with no accumulation.
5/23/2019 8:00 AM 0.04 0.0 0.00 M M Freezing, misty fog this morning, mostly melting on contact now. May have been some snow before light, but no definite remnants. Not cored but still about 6-8" of snow on the ground.

5/27/2019 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Two brief rains: 7:00 pm to 7:15 pm rain with a few pellets of 1/8" hail; 8:50 pm to 8:55 pm rain again.
5/28/2019 8:00 AM T M M M M Brief, light rain shower about 3:00 pm left only a Trace. Fog in the early morning after about 1:30 am and breaking up by about 4 am, with no apparent precipitation.
5/29/2019 8:00 AM 0.12 M M M M From about 9:00 am until 9:15 am, a very light sprinkle of rain with pea size hail included (see hail report for details). Followed at 9:21 am by a separate hail until about 9:37 when heavier hail fell resulting in about 80% coverage. By about 9:41 only a light rain fell until about 9:51 am. (Again see hail report for more details.) Still more sprinkles at about 12;00 pm, and more at about 2:25 pm ahead of a rain storm which passed south of us. Precipitation ended at about 3:30 pm, having put 0.10" in the gauge when checked at 5:00 pm. During the dark morning hours more showers must have fallen because there was another 0.02" in the gauge for the total of 0.12".

6/8/2019 8:00 AM 0.45 M M M M Two sprinkles between about 3:30 and 3:50 pm for a Trace. Heavy rain starts about 4:48 with hail about 5:00 pm (hard, white, up to pea size, with high winds blowing so falling at about 30 degrees, and coverage only about 20% of the ground. Hard hail and heavy rain over about 5:05 pm, but rain and soft hail continued until about 5:20. Drizzle finally ended about 5:40 pm. Emptied the gauge after this storm and found 0.44". Only minor plant damage from this storm. Raining again from about 9:15 until about 9:35 pm, but nothing in the gauge this morning, so only a Trace again. Added the "Traces" to the 0.44" for the total 0.45", because the traces were enough to wet the deck pretty thoroughly even if not measurable in themselves.

Start Date End Date & Time Duration in Days Precipitation Snow Depth Snow Depth SWE Notes
11/3/2018 11/09/2018 4:00 PM 7 M 0.0 M We were gone from 11/2 to 11/9 and some stations around us showed measurable precipitation, but our gauge was bone dry.
1/28/2019 1/29/2019 8:00 AM 2 0.21 M M New snow depth about 3.4", difficult to estimate again due to high winds blowing and drifting the snow. Snow started during the predawn hours Monday morning. Clouds breaking up about 11:00 am, but snow showers continued until about 1:30 pm.
2/20/2019 2/26/2019 8:00 AM 7 0.38 M M Gauge emptied several days after last precipitation, and several warm days have melted all the snow in the gauge and much of the snow on the ground. Amount of evaporation and melting into the ground and refreezing are probably considerable, so the value of the precipitation in the gauge may be suspect. Similarly, the Total Snow and the water content range from zero to over a foot with an average being too hard to estimate.
4/1/2019 4/07/2019 8:00 AM 7 0.00 T T There may have been some precipitation during our absence, but all had evaporated from the gauge by the time of our return. Also, some of the largest drifts of old snow remain, but most of the old snow has melted/evaporated.

7/17/2019 7/23/2019 8:00 AM 7 0.79 M M
8/2/2019 8/09/2019 8:00 AM 8 2.61 M M Got home about 3:30 pm, 8/8/2019, and checked the gauge which had 1.59" from the previous 7 days, however a neighbor said there was some light precipitation during the morning after the normal report time so I have to include the last 24 hours in the multi-day report. So, we had showers from about 4:15 pm to about 4:30 pm on 8/8 that put 0.05" in the gauge (which was then emptied) and another series of storms after about 9:30 pm until sometime later in the night which put 0.97" in the gauge when checked this morning (8/9). This would make 1.02+" for this day alone and added to the previous 1.59" for the total 2.61" for the multi-day report.

5/28/2019 9:21 AM At 9:00 am a first cloud passed over dropping a very light rain and hail, less than pea size and only about 2-3 per sqft, over about 9:15 am. A second cloud just passed over, also going NNE, at about 9:21 am. Started with hail about pea size becoming pea size about 9:37 and coming down fast enough that the surfaces were about 80% covered. By 9:41 hail had stopped and only a light rain continued. This precipitation center had passed by 9:51 am.
