Cloudy, some dew, not as cool as yesterday - 58 degrees. Very still. Happy New Water Year! Interested to see my stats. I seen almost no leaves turning around my house. There is one branch on one tree that has color. Some of the maples seem to be turning brown, but it is definitely not dry - we've had so much rain recently. |

It is lightly misting right now, overcast and dark this e was a bug paddling away in the small amount of water in the tube (0.08"). Looked like a lightning bug, but I would think those would be gone by now. Almost as long as tube diameter. |

Almost an inch of rain from storms that came through yesterday late afternoon and evening. They were not too severe here, but i think they were in surrounding towns. This morning is sunny and 60 degrees. There is a large bank of fog over the lake, but it doesn’t extend up the hill here. |

The amount of precipitation in the gauge was more than trace (0.01”), so i think it wasn’t dew, but there was a lot of condensation on gauge, so perhaps. I wasn’t sure so i reported it. Fog over the lake again this morning, but it is also partly cloudy so it is not burning off very fast. |

Now it is autumn! Temperature was 37 this morning when i read the gauge. Maybe that will trigger some leaf color! Cloudy with a large fog bank over the lake. Clear up here on the hill. I forgot to take in the tube and funnel last night, despite frost warnings and the reminders to do so from CoCoRaHS. Fortunately, it didn’t get quite that cold. |

Less rain than they were predicting, but the higher numbers were probably on the shore. I haven’t looked at map yet to see if it bears this out. We did not need this added amount. They are keeping the Housatonic low below dam - I think it is time for them to drawdown the lake to try to kill off milfoil this winter, but with all this rain I don’t think they have been able to. Going to a breakfast to honor our veteran’s, so read the gauge a little early. There was nothing in the gauge anyway. Cold this morning - 32 degrees with a little breeze. Sunny though. the ground where I cleared vegetation a few weeks ago is still bare and there are ice crystal in the soil. Only a light bit of frost on the grass though - maybe too much breeze? I'm editing This because I wanted to mention yesterday’s snow flurries. There were a couple of them and each was fast and furious. One had especially strong winds. Nothing accumulated on the ground from these, except during one of them, in addition to snowflakes, larger pellets fell. They did not seem to be hail, but more solid than snowflakes and opaque. I think they are called graupel. They did not melt immediately, but didn’t last long. |

Slow to report, but the gauge was read on time. There was an ice dome on top of the gauge, so I don’t think the measurement reflects all that fell last night. I had gone out about 7:00 pm and the gauge looked almost full of snow at that time. When I collected it this morning, the dome was in place and it was only about 2/3 full of snow. I think the melted core is a more accurate reflection of amount. It was still snowing and very windy when I went out at 8:00 am today. Leaves are scattered all over the snow. Temperature was right around 32. I didn’t get a core from the ground. |

Happy Frozen Thanksgiving! 12 degrees here! Sunny and the winds have stopped thank goodness. There were very strong gusts yesterday late afternoon/evening. We also had a snow squall that started around 4 pm yesterday. We had a dusting on the ground when it stopped after a short time. This morning as I walked to the gauge, there were very light traces of snow pellets on the grass and on the snow board. But there was nothing in the gauge and other parts of the yard had nothing. |

That was some intense rain last evening. I would have preferred snow, but the rain caused fewer headaches for commuters. It wasn’t great driving though because visibility was poor and roads had a lot of water on them. I didn’t see any flooding, but it was dark. Well, back to zeroes - and that’s a good thing. We’ve had enough rain to last awhile. Everything is frozen again too. Temperature is right around 30. Very strange to watch the temperature yesterday drop from 48 down to 30’s by evening. The lake of course is not frozen. Prior to the warm spell, it had started to get a little ice around the shore. The wind yesterday was really blowing, but I haven’t seen any damage fortunately. There is a bit of frost this morning on the grass, but not other surfaces. |

There was more in the gauge than I at first thought. It looked like just a trace of snow, but when I got it inside there was a layer of ice on the bottom. So I ended up with 0.18” melted. It was very difficult to get the gauge off the mount becuase of the ice. And it was difficult to get the ruler into the iced up snow on the ground. I tried to take a core, but could not get through the ice. The snowboard only had a trace of snow on it. It is very cold and the snow that fell has frozen into a rock. Our thermometer says -1 degrees now. Fortunately, the wind did not become as bad as predicted, because all the trees and bushes are still coated with ice and that could have made a mess. |

This morning it is warmer than the last few days - 19 degrees. It is still very hard - quite a struggle to get a core for the SWE for Snow Survey. Overcast today and it is supposed to rain later. I will be glad for the ice to go - it is still on the trees and bushes, but much less because of the wind yesterday. All rain in the gauge. Almost 50 degrees out - what a change! It is raining, but not too heavily. I was surprised there was so little in the gauge, but I guess it has been sporadic. In places where I walked across snow in past days, the depressions are still ice and filling with standing water. And there are areas in the low part of the yard where there is standing water/slush. but for the most part there is about 1” of snow left on the ground. I haven’t been out yet, but I know our road has a spot where water runs down across the road. When it was below freezing, they could not keep the ice off the road. I imagine now it will be flooded. |

The rain that fell yesterday froze in the gauge overnight. I’m not surprised it is over an inch (1.23”) - it was really coming down yesterday. Early afternoon yesterday was treacherous driving because of the water in the road and flowing over it. Some minor hydroplaning. But by late afternoon, although it was still raining hard, it was better. My theory is the ground had melted and could absorb more and not so much was running into the roads. The sun is out this morning, although there are some clouds. The grass was crunchy this morning, but there is no more snow on the ground. |

I really messed up yesterday and forgot to clear off my snowboard after I measured, so I have no measurement of new snow or core to report today. Weighing goes faster, but stil time-consuming! there is a layer of ice on top of snow, but it is easily broken so walking is not too hard (especially with Yaktrax!). The treacherous parts are places like our walk from which we removed the snow, so it is just slick ice. There was no snow on board this morning and the snow on the ground had melted quite a bit - 1.0” left this morning. There was 0.05” water in the gauge. It had been snow, but melted and didn’t refreeze. Yesterday when the snow stopped at 11:00 am, I went out and saw a bit of snow in the gauge and measured what had fallen on the board since 8:00 am. There was 0.3” on the board which melted later in the day. |

Rain was very heavy at times yesterday afternoon/evening. I was driving and hydroplaned on the interstate - fortunately brief and quickly under control. Another day of no precipitation. But I think some is predicted for later today. Its a good thing because it is getting quite dry. When my husband mows, he sends up clouds of dust and he doesn’t cut the grass super short. I’m pretty fed up with this pair of catbirds that like to perch on my gauge. This is the second morning they have pooped right down the center of the funnel. I’m concerned they will block it and interfere with readings. This morning they both were squawking at me as I checked the gauge. I don’t mind so much when it is on the outside as it often is. It is a nice perch for them to keep an eye on the blueberries as they ripen! I’m not sure what I can do to make it less appealing to them without potentially interfering with the catch. |

Another day with no precipitation. We were supposed to have severe thunderstorms yesterday, but they all passed us by or dissipated. I really wanted the rain for my plants. I had to water them yesterday, especially the potted plants on the deck. Established plants were OK. The lake is busy already with boats running around. Yesterday it reached 90 for awhile, but that was on our deck, so probably not indicative of air temperature generally. At least it cools off nicely at night. I’m surprised at how little rain we got (0.14”) last night. None of the storms hit us directly - we could hear thunder in the distance. But we got some precipitation at least. HOT, HOT, HOT! Our thermometer registered 97 degrees yesterday afternoon. And humid and still. The pool was refreshing, but too sunny to stay in long. I am noticing how very dry it is here. Our little creek is completely dry - a few days ago it had small puddles in it. The monarch caterpillars I saw a few weeks ago are long gone - don’t know if they got eaten or metamorphosed. I hope they made it and are on their journey. There is a black swallowtail caterpillar on the dill. |

Even cooler this morning - 55 degrees. Clear and sunny, but fog over the lake looks neat. Heavy dew and condensation on gauge and inside gauge. There was a trace on the bottom of the tube, but I’m sure that is dew and not precipitation. Plants seem much happier after the rain and then cooler weather. |

There was a Trace of water in the gauge, but I think it was dew. There is dew on grass and condensation on the gauge, but none of the other surfaces seem wet, so I don’t think we had a shower. Cloudy this morning and still. 57 degrees. The dirt is so dry that water just runs off and doesn’t soak in. We really need a good, soaking rain, but there is none in the forecast till maybe late next week. |

Another day with no precipitation to report. Our lawn is starting to burn up in spots and some long established bushes are looking wilty when the sun is out. This morning is partly cloudy and still. Yesterday was a bit windy most of the day. Very little dew this morning. Only 50 degrees - feels quite chilly. |
