6 hours after the first snow fall measurement, at 1245, I measured the white board again. It measured 3" as well as did the 4" wide CoCoRaHS gauge. At the same time as the measurement, sleet and rain began, switched to a bit of snow, then sleet and rain again. The measurement reported today is the result of collection from yesterday AM. The snow is melting and damage has again occurred to River Road. |

There were intermittent snow squalls beginning at 1453 and ending about 1615. The snow first came down as 1/8" round pebbles. At 1503, the wind picked up and the snow were actually flakes. It stopped in 5 minutes and everything melted. At 1515 it picked up intermittently again as large clumps of flakes, lasting till 1615. |

Report not submitted earlier due to snow interference with satellite connectivity. The first flurries came down on 1/12 at 1409 for about 5 minutes. This was repeated at 1513 but for 10 minutes. At 1615 heavier snow came and continued as of this reading at 0800. While shoveling this AM, the ground was warm and hence it was easy to remove the snow to the grass, the gravel or stone walkway.

The first snow (flakes) came at 1023 for about 10 min; at 1049 more snow came (flakes) for about 5 min; at 1234 graupel came down for several minutes then it turned to multiple snow flakes clumped together. This snow lasted till about 1700. The snow was white, fluffy and somewhat wet, as it stuck to all the branches and twigs. By 1/30 AM, snow had fallen off all the branches and twigs. Snow measurement was taken on a snow board at 1700, when it was no longer snowing. Over night there was a T on the snow board and in the rain gauge, so I concluded that the snow on the board was not due to blowing snow. This was not melted. Temp low was 2.9°F. |

Compare this reading with MD-MG-120. Very light rain began at 1806. However directly across the Potomac River it was raining so hard I could not see the other side. This distance is 3750'. Usually when I see this occurrence, the rain hits us just as hard. It did not this time, but proceeded northward. The heavier rain did not begin until about 2000. During the rain and while it was still light, I noticed how I could see sheets of rain at the neighbor's farm and in the back field, but not around the house. Check the comments in MD-MG-120. Heavy winds began at 0730 with gusts frequently over 20MPH. |

1328-1332: a very light, blowing rain came from a dark cloud overhead that extended WSW. 1753: there was thunder across the Potomac River. I also saw rain coming down very briefly WNW and NW of my location. 1806: a deluge of rain came down in buckets, very, very fast and very heavy without any warning. It was also very windy. Visibility was down to about 750 feet due to the rain. At the same time the sun was shining due W through the rain. It all stopped at 1816. Electricity cut off-and-on several times, but did not stay off. 1821: I saw a rainbow due E towards Poolesville, MD. The very large rainbow arc spread from the N to the S. |

SKYWARN Report (MO-319). It began raining at 1349 very lightly, then at 1403 it came down very hard with visibility to about 1000'. This rain blew from the west and came in at a sharp angle. This lasted till 1415.
At 1715 the rain came fast, hard and heavy. I could see it moving from the west very fast. Visibility again was reduced to ~1000'. It finally stopped with the last drops about 1820. The wind was also extremely forceful. (I don't yet have the data from my digital weather equipment due to technical issues. Look at my other station MD-MG-120, as it has 1.49". There was massive River Road flooding and the farm fields were still flooded this morning. Once I have the data from the digital equipment, I'll correct this report. |

At 1643 a very intense thunderstorm approached from the W with very high winds - 30' pine trees were bending over 30-40 degrees from vertical.
