I am going to put today's rain under the "Duration Information", but there was rain from yesterday at 8:00 AM until 9:50 AM, not included in the duration info. Heavy rains early this morning and yesterday. Davis VP2 captured 2.74" and the Novalynx indicated 3.39" over the past 24 hours. I believe that the Davis was under-counting. The Novalynx was calibrated with the factory calibrator, but seems to indicate high. The average of these two numbers is 3.065" which is closer to the CoCoRaHs measurement. The Novalynx is close to the manual gauge, but the VP2 is on the opposite side of the yard and is subject to a rain shadow issue. Start/Stop times from Hydreon data. Rain was off and on during the day. The most recent event began at 12:35 AM and ended about 3:20 AM. |

CORRECTION: Gage catch was 0.56" after melting outer cylinder amount and pouring into measuring cylinder this afternoon. Amount edited to show 0.56" I think that I wrote down the wrong gram mass measurement this morning. Core was taken from a very even accumulation on snowboard. VP2 measurement was 0.46". There is a crust approximately 1/4 inch on top of softer snow. This might have been wetter snow, or may have been some late freezing rain just prior to the temperature falling rapidly at about midnight. This all froze rapidly and froze up my wind instruments, both the RM Young and Davis. |

Snowboard depth is highly questionable due to drifting. I measured four quadrants and got an average of 3.6" The core measurement of 0.36" was taken from the middle. I am going to record "NA" due to the drifting issue. The change in rangefinder depths from yesterday to today is much more credible (10.76"-10.04") and calculates to 0.72". This amount is much more likely. VP2=0.02" but the heater melts a lot of this fine snow. Today's ultrasonic rangefinder indicates 10.76", and agrees with the stick measurement in the area that I measure the total accumulation. Gage/core measurements used weighing method. |

SWE by weighing method. Snow is heavily drifted and very difficult to get a representative depth. Some areas were swept clean by snow, but there is a 2 foot (estimated, I couldn't access it) drift in my yard. I took some average measurements of drifts and low areas and I come up with about 15". Both the new snow and total should be considered as rough ESTIMATES with several areas averaged. The core sample was not credible and I am not reporting it. (it measured as 3.00" SWE!) VP2=0.10" (incredibly, but most of this fine snow is melted/evaporated due to the heater). The rangefinder area was in a "swept clear" are and is showing only 5.0". Very wet snow yesterday has frozen solid into about 0.7" mass. Another inch accumulated on top of this ice. There was freezing rain yesterday that froze my anemometer, but it since has freed and is working again. Actual icing was very minor, I would estimate about 0.1" or less. Total ice thickness however is substantial as noted. Start/Stop times refer to only liquid as detected by Hydreon and do not reflect snow. Snow or other frozen precip is not detected. |

SWE by weighing method on snowboard. Significant drifting up to 3+ feet. Lower amounts in windswept areas as low as 4-5". An average of nine measurements was 15.46". This is what I am reporting and agrees well with snowboard depth of 16". Not possible to reach overall depth measurement area.
EDIT (2/14/19): The nine "new snow" measurement areas are used for an unweighted average. I attempted to recalculate with a visual weighting factor. There are fairly large drifts, yet other areas that are only a few inches. The high winds and subsequent drifting made the snow depth measurement difficult. With my weighting "guesstimate" the calculation is no less than 12". One caveat is that I have a small lot with buildings closer than recommended measurement standards, so wind channeling makes this area prone to drifting. Other areas around Rogers City could have received less (or more) snow. |

SWE by weighing method. VP2=0; Start/Stop times from Hydreon data which shows intermittent precipitation from 1845 yesterday to 0025 this morning. Snow was not observed. Normal snowboard has been shoveled out and prepared for new snow. (this has been covered for several weeks and an alternate board has been in use) Total depth is an average of rangefinder depth of 3.50" and snowstick depth of just under 10". There is a depression near the stick, so getting a depth measurement here was difficult. I reduced the average somewhat because of this. The new ESTIMATE is 6.5". |

A couple of drops in the bottom of outer cylinder. Hydreon indicated intermittent precip from 1855 to 2340. I was able to get actual depth measurements this morning. Readings ranged from 10-12", 5" to 3.15". These average to 6.38", which will round down to 6". Note that this includes an ice layer that is 3/4" thick from an earlier storm several weeks ago. The measuring stick was able to penetrate this layer, but I don't think that the outer cylinder will puncture this for a core SWE. (without breaking the gauge) |

Just a trace of very light drizzle. A remaining old drift (natural) has about 8" left. I would estimate remaining coverage of natural snow (non-plowed or shoveled) as about 20%. This gives about 1.5" overall depth estimate. |

SWE by weighing method. Slush and liquid water in gauge outer cylinder. Snow board is covered by very slushy snow. The snow accumulation was probably deeper than indicated and was probably >1". Some water probably drained off of the snowboard leaving an amount less than actual for the core. I didn't get a depth measurement yesterday. Ground is covered by very slushy snow. VP2 has 0.50" accumulation and NovaLynx has 0.37". Note that the NovaLynx is _not_ heated and has quite a bit of snow remaining inside of funnel area, so it has not counted all accumulated precipitation yet. Hydreon recorded liquid precipitation between 0305 up to observation time. Hydreon does not indicate snow, so I am leaving the Duration info blank. |

VP2=0.20"; Novalynx (not heated and still has snow in the funnel) had 0.15"; Rangefinder recent maximum was 0.54". Snow is melting rapidly and rangefinder had a negative offset recently. Times are as indicated by Hydreon, but this sensor does not respond well to snow, mostly liquid. Consequently the times are not accurate. Take this as an approximation of the wettest snow times. Peak snow depth was almost certainly more than 1.3", but not measured during the event by this observer. |

Davis VP2 has been upgraded with a 'tipping spoon' for the rain gauge. It will be interesting to see if it correlates better with the CoCoRaHS gauge. Also, disabled the gauge heater and reinstalled the Aerocone. This has no bearing on CoCoRaHS per se, but just to note the change. |
