Occasional overcast between bands. Never any truly hard rain, but blowing spritz, drizzle and light rain almost all day. Strongest wind was early evening just after dark; a few banshee screams amongst the roars. Sounded like Nor'easter in Pamlico County in my youth. Winds laid before midnight. It was a dark and stormy night. The day started cloudy, with cumulus clouds developing by noon. A great day to mow. Light sprinkles in the afternoon. Could see frontal storm activity in the NW at 2045; many streaks of cloud-to-cloud lightning. Quite a show. Moderate rain began in an hour, then became heavy. Rain slacked for a while, then began heavy again with high wind; lost satellite TV for about 15 minutes. Then began the longest electrical storm I can remember in decades. Intense lightning and loud thunder for the next 6 hours. Still going on when I went to bed; hard to get to sleep with the racket. A lull for a couple hours, then it started again but not as intense. Fretful night. Surprised that power never went out nor surged. Also, no standing water in the usual places with poor drainage. Light rain and 71.2° at obs time; no lightning and thunder. Cat survived. |
