The rain started with what Davis said was 0.15" in 10 minutes. However, the gauge needs to be leveled and recalibrated, it reads about 20% low. The rain rate was recorded as zero, I've never seen that before. The next two reports were for 0.01" and 0.09" (3.27"/h peak rate). I would have liked to have been here. Near the end of the obs period we had 0.24" over 40 minutes at a steady 0.06" per 10 minute report, but with a peak rate of 1.33"/h. That's more normal behavior. |

A little small drop R-- on the windshield as I approached home around 2030, and I cycled the windshield wipers once before turning into the driveway and saw a few more drops. Radar suggested there might have been some more earlier. My temperature graph shows no trace of rain, but does show the low temp was just after midnight at 60F, warming to 64F by sunrise. Gonna be a scorcha.... |

I have an Outback Blue rain gauge. It reported 1.39". It's clear their inner tube is not calibrated well because I weighed 288 and 289 grams of rain from each. |

Showers missed me to the north and south. OTOH, on my commute home from Nashua, a storm in Merrimack looked so impressive that I got off the freeway figuring it would be a good excuse to drive slowly and give me more options if I needed them. Dang, I forgot to weigh the "PA new" (0.38") gross weight and had the inner tube of the OB gauge (0.35") offset from the funnel so its depth is from pouring outer cylinder into middle, losing some rain. PA old grams per inch was 201. |
