The rain gauge this morning was heaped over with snow and looked like a giant mushroom and contained only 0.58” of water, while the yard averaged 11” of new relatively dry snow. That seemed like too large a ratio, so I took core samples in four locations and they averaged 0.84” water and 11” depth. I’ve noticed that the gauge always under collects snow, so I used the core samples for my precipitation report. |

It has rained almost every day in the last half of May which is also very unusual. Last 24 hours: partly cloudy, windy at times, high temp in upper 60’s before the rain started, then 50’s. Thunder, overcast and light rain starting 1220, moderate rain to 1315, then light rain ending 1330, rain resumed 1445, becoming moderate 1455 to 1525 when it stopped, another period of rain 1720 to 1800. There were stronger storms around, but we were never in the bull’s-eye. |

We haven’t had any significant rain since May, so either the rain was washing dirt off of the trees or it came in the rain. |

They normally agree, so wind must have been a factor. Temperature this morning at 0645 was 36 degrees. The last few storms we have had left residue of mud, even though there was no obvious dust in the air. I wonder if it is ash from the Paradise, CA fire? |
