11/16/2018 7:30 AM M 5.0 M 5.0 M Winter Storm Warnings for Cattaraugus, Allegany, Wyoming and counties east. Synoptic system brought a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain with precipitation changing to all snow late yesterday and trough out the night. Heavy, wet snow.

11/28/2018 7:30 AM M 21.0 M 21.0 M Winter Storm Warning for the Southern Tier (with ththe exception of Allegany County), S. Erie and Wyoming counties trhough 6 pm. Snow caused by wrap-around moisture from a low pressure system in New England enhanced by lake effect off Erie. Snow began falling in earnest during the early evening and lasted throughout the night. This is one of the heaviest single snowfalls we have experienced in th past 10 years. Forecasters really appeared to have underestimated this one.

Overnight snow (which amounted to more than forecast) combined with yesterday's snow yielded a snowfall total of 26". This ranks in the top 5 heaviest snowfalls I have recorded since I began being a snowspotter with the Buffalo office of the NWS in 1992.

1/20/2019 7:30 AM M 11.0 M 15.0 M Major winter storm that impacted virtually all of PA, NY and NE. WSW from 10 am Sat thru 6 pm Sunday followed by bitter cold arctic air on northerly winds. Wind Chill Warnings for Catt, Wyoming, Allegany counties tonight thru tomorrow. Wind chills down to -30F. Fortunately, it will be short-lived but after a month of benign winter weather the pattern is becoming more active and winter-like.

2/25/2019 7:30 AM M 5.0 M 5.0 M Strong cold front brought hurricane-strength winds to NY counties bordering L. Erie. Morning thunderstorm transitioned to afternoon showers. Following the passage of the front colder air brought sleet then snow. Snow locally heavy on a strong west wind dropping visibility to under 1/8 mile all night. Even though Erie is 80%+ ice covered, open areas from shifting ice coupled with connection from other Great Lakes lead to ample snowfall.
