11/23/2018 9:30 AM 0.02 1.0 M 3.0 M One of the coldest Thanksgiving holidays in recent memory. Temp range 18/01. During the morning hours, two separate lake-effect snowsqualls rolled through. During the first one, shortly after 0900, visibilities crashed to as low as a quarter mile. Dumped a quick .7" of fluff. Temps, at that point were at 15 F. Sun broke out through the shallow low level cloud deck. Then, after 11 am, a second squall came through. Another .3" fell, with visibilities down to a half mile. Filtered sun returned, but flurries persisted on and off till about 13:30. Remainder of afternoon featured scattered Sc clouds with light N-NW breeze. At sundown, 16:40, skies were clear. Rapid temperature drop in the evening and night hours, bottoming out shortly around or after midnight. Strong, cA High pressure system sailed right over western-central NY during this overnight time frame. Satellite imagery indicated a solid sheet of low level stratus/SCu clouds propagating eastbound from Ontario province, Lake Erie. By 08:30 the leading edge of that arrived here. At obs time, temp 18 and overcast (stratus deck).

11/25/2018 8:00 AM 0.06 0.0 M 1.5 M Temp range 42/36. Overcast skies Saturday with a couple of periods of showers, mainly midday and again Saturday night. A real thaw finally underway. Snow pack is now ripening and diminishing in depth. At obs time, temp at 40 and overcast. Light & Var wind.

With afternoon values in the mid 40s, it was one of the most pleasant days this month. Night-time featured overcast skies with binovc, as temps dropped back into the raw mid-upper 30s, and damp out with wet streets and melting of residual snow on ground. At obs time, light rain underway and 39. Ground now bare with traces of snow visible. Snow piles remain, but shrinking.

At obs time, low-mid overcast, darkening observed to NW, and 41..another round of showers about to get started. Warmest temp observed since Nov. 6th. Got caught up with leaf removal, thanks to our "day of grace."

Morning featured some sun, but as the day progressed mult-layered clouds arrived from 8000 feet up to 26000 feet with higher jet contrails. Light SE breeze. After 20:15, steady rain, moderate to heavy at times, arrived from western PA. Rain ended by 03:00, replaced by drizzle, and then it shut down before 5am. At obs time, broken to overcast and 43.
12/22/2018 6:15 AM 0.58 0.8 M 1.0 M Temp range 55/30. Most of the region spent time in the warm sector. Clouds parted briefly in the late morning to allow partial sunshine, with light breezes. Conditions deteriorated by midday with return of cloud cover, lower ceilings, accompanying return of colder air. By 14:00, drizzle was falling, became rain later in day...and changed over to wet snow by 23:30. Snow plastering trees, leaves and it appears there was some freezing rain as observed on tree branches. At obs, overcast, windy, and 30.

Overnight, stratus/Sc clouds locked back in. No precip. Tranquil. Diurnal temp range of only 3 deg between max and min. At obs, overcast and 29.
12/24/2018 8:00 AM 0.02 0.2 M 0.5 M Temp range 34/32. Overcast skies, Overnight, flurries broke out, but melted on paved surfaces. At obs, a light flurry and 33. Light to no wind.
12/25/2018 8:00 AM 0.10 1.8 M 1.5 M Temp range 34/30. Overcast skies. Flurries in the morning began to intensify to snowsqualls that persisted after 10:30am. Again, with temps above freezing, road surfaces were wet. After dark, road surfaces became slick. No hint of any sunshine. Gloomy. Overnight, a light flurry from time to time. Skies did partially clear for a bit after 18:45, with stars visible. At obs, a light flurry and 30.
12/26/2018 9:00 AM T T M 1.0 M Temp range 33/29. Morning Stratus clouds mixed out after 10am X-MaS morning. Partly to mostly sunny skies, after a long stretch of no sun for nearly a week. Late afternoon, Sc clouds assembled once again. Light flurries broke out after 20:45, but to a trace amount. Tranquil, little wind. At obs, overcast and 31, with sunny breaks seen.
12/27/2018 8:30 AM T T M T M Temp range 35/23.Overall a mix of sun and cloud for Boxing Day. Temps rose to mid 30s.Towards 18:00, some flurries broke out, then cleared later. At obs, sunny and 23.
12/28/2018 8:15 AM 0.10 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range...daytime max on 12/27; 35. After 18:00, temps steadly rose overnight to 49 at obs time. Sunshine replaced by increasing mid and high clouds in the afternoon. Showers broke out after 23:30 and ended by 8:15am.

Cold fropa at 22:15-20 heralded by the arrival of stronger winds blowing from the west. Gusts to 30 knots plus. At obs, mid level to low overcast, 37. Dry streets/walkways. Temps should continue to drop during this day with cold air advection in progress. Along with anticipated snowshowers. Ground is bare, no snowcover. Even snowpiles near driveways...now gone.
12/30/2018 7:00 AM 0.05 1.1 M 1.0 M Temp range 35/22.Mainly grey skies with active cold air advection on Saturday. Morning flurries, amounting to a trace, as ground remained bare. Temps went to freezing mark by 11am, and lingered in the 31 degree zone for much of the afternoon. Later in day, partial clearing via small binovc. Overnight, an approaching clipper over Michigan pushed a light snow shield across southern Ontario, arriving at station shortly after 02:40am. Event ended by 06:30. Temps were in low 20s at that point. At obs, overcast and 23.
12/31/2018 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.5 M Temp range 33/22. Low stratus over cast all day. After 4pm, binovc observed to the SW. After sundown, skies cleared for a portion of the night, with high clouds streaming later at night with moon visible. At obs time, partly sunny thru high/mid clouds. No wind.

Stratus cloud field advected in from the NW after 21:00. At obs time, low to mid overcast and 19.

Overnight, mid level layer broke to scattered, just leaving a high overcast layer at 20000 feet. At dawn some sun and blue sky visible. Gentle ENE-NE breeze at airport locations, otherwise near calm at station. Temp at obs time, at 9 degrees.

After 13:00, lake effect clouds appeared from the northeast, and eventually the balance of the day featured the Sc cloud deck at about 1500 feet. A few flurries noted falling for about a half hour after 14:00. Overnight, overcast low clouds. At obs, overcast with binovc, 18.

During afternoon, patchy middle and high clouds..along with jet contrails were observed. Temps stayed refrigerated. Overnight, moon visible with mainly clear skies. After 01:20am, low clouds formed or moved in...with temps quickly rising to 27 by this early obs at 7am sharp. Increase in cloud cover resulted in an increase in breezes.

1/17/2019 6:45 AM T T M 1.0 M Temp range 35/06. Morning overcast with breaks as temps rapidly warmed to the mid 30s, and above freezing temps. Approach and passage of Arctic cold front provided a period of snowshowers, most of which were snow pellets/granules and then to flakes before shutting down. Rapid pressure rises and abundant sunshine with fair wx Sc clouds was in full force after 13:30 to sunset. Overnight, mainly clear skies and light wind...then to calm by obs time. Rare to see this, but no lake clouds visible at this location. Currently, clear with Venus brightly visible above SE sky. Reading at 6 degrees...no wind.

Overcast with sun dimly visible in the afternoon and into early night-time with moon dimly visible. Light snow broke out by 3am. Amount measured at 6:15 of 1.2" and by 7am, up to 1.8." Light snow at obs with visibility of about 1 to 1.5 miles. Warming temps briefly as northern stream surface wave and upper air short wave propagate through western NY.

Snowfall measurements made every 6 hours, per NWS procedures during synoptic obs times. Snow on ground at 12 to 13 inches, averaged at 12.5. Some settling of the snow has and is occurring. Winds from N-NW, but no significant whiteouts observed as daylight replaces night. Meltdown also done every 6 hours, per NWS procedures.

This particular day was not our first above freezing day. Last Friday also featured a warm up.
1/25/2019 9:45 AM 0.22 3.0 M 7.0 M Temps fell steadily from mid 30s early Thursday obs time at 6am, to the current 23. Rain changed to snow quickly after 07:45 Thursday and then shut down. Flurries redeveloped towards evening. Then, a long fetch and long distance Lake Erie snow band struck area in morning, with two distinct bursts. Snow density is very low, meaning, little meltdown. Some wind is now creating more blowing and drifting of snow.

Following FROPA of colder air mass, temps dropping into the mid 20s, with sunshine and Sc clouds mixed.

Virga visible Monday night, only a flake or two reaching ground. Cold front on our western doorstep as of this hour, having passed Batavia.

Temps dropped from 10 to +02 by 16:00. Overnight, clouds shifted south. Temps bottomed out after 21:00 thru 1am, then slowly rose to -02 at 6am. Winds gradually diminishing by obs time.
2/1/2019 7:00 AM T T M 4.0 M Temp range 10/-00. Completely sunny all day. Morning was clear with a brisk breeze. By afternoon, Sc and even some Cu clouds covered about half of the celestial dome. Snow showers, unknown intensity, visible aloft between clouds. A few flurries reached surface, but briefly. Air is bone dry at surface. Overnight, patchy clouds gave way to mostly clear conditions. However, a light breeze was underway till the predawn period before sunrise. Temps just above zero at midnight, but no real drop to speak of. At obs time, partly sunny and 0 degrees F.

At obs, overcast, a cooler west breeze, mid 40s...and dropping.

2/7/2019 5:45 AM 0.44 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range 34/28. Freezing rain developed after 10am Wednesday. With rising temps, ZR was replaced by R-. Then, temps started to drop back overnight with freezing drizzle. At obs time, ZL, and 28. Driveways are completely glazed, similar to late Saturday night, 5 nights earlier.
2/8/2019 7:00 AM 0.08 0.0 M 0.0 M Temp range again inverted. Min temp early Thursday at 29. Daytime max 35. Temps steadily rising, especially following warm frontal passage. Drizzle fell during day, but early part of period featured a glaze from ZL. Warm frontal passage accomplished by 20:30, preceded by a period of rain prior. For a period of time following...6 hours, temps climbed above 45, finally reaching 56 at this station, and 60 in higher elevation plateau stations very close by. Abruptly, the cold front arrived, at 02:33, with showers and a wind shift and sudden increase in wind speeds. Gusts in excess of 45 knots. Skies partly clear at 7am obs, windy, temp at 33. The local stationary front that was set up for much of Thursday did frontolyze. The true cyclone and it's associated warm sector overnight would make an interesting case study. Again, our second "cutter" type cyclone this week and third or four for the month.
2/9/2019 8:00 AM T 0.1 M T M Temp range 28/14. Temps held steady near daytime max and slowly started dropping in the afternoon. Some light snowshowers mid to late morning and again in the evening. But the big story was the long duration windstorm. West winds to WSW winds gusting to 45-50 knots in the morning and almost as strong in the afternoon and deep into the night. After 4am, the outside roar was no longer audible. At obs time, overcast, stiff breeze and 14. Ground bare, except for a trace amount on some dead leaves.

2/17/2019 9:00 AM T T M 1.5 M Temp range 29/21. Mainly cloudy skies, then, partial clearing in the mid to late afternoon, as Sc clouds broke up. Higher cirroform clouds observed distant west and SW. Ovenight, Sc clouds reformed as low level winds veered from NW to NE, with tea kettle snow observed after 1am Sunday. At obs, partly sunny with Sc and higher cirroform clouds, 26.

Easterly breeze. Light snow broke out after 19:30 then it let up after midnight. Another round of snow arrived before daybreak. Temps hit a secondary max of 25 just before 5am. After 5am, a rapid cooling, dropping to 21. Correspondingly, barometric pressures hit minimum at 5am, (29.79"hg)& now rising rapidly. At obs, 20.5 with light-moderate snow.
2/19/2019 7:30 AM 0.02 1.7 M 5.0 M Temp range 24/09. All day snow tapered off by 17:00. Rapid thinning out and then total clearing by sundown. Overnight, the full "snow" moon illuminated a cold landscape with light breeze from the west to, at times, calm air. A lake effect cloud band was lurking and seen at northern, local horizon overnight. At morning obs, high clouds overhead and to the south, east and west, but clear to the north. Area temps ranged from -3 off Cheese Factory Road section of Mendon, to 5 at Auburn Trail, and 15 in Webster. Meltdown of snow yielded very little water, meltdown was done at 19:00 LST/00z, before any additional sublimation. Snow measurements were done at 6 hourly intervals with final measurement at 19:00 LST, two hours after snowfall ended.
2/20/2019 8:00 AM T T M 3.0 M Temp range 26/08. Some sun and some mixed clouds during this frigid day. Very light "dandruff" snow fell mid to late morning as airmass destabilized with lake enhanced moisture to feed in below the inversion layer. Late in day and into the night, skies cleared with the min temp occurring at 22:20 and holding close to 9 the balance of the night. Increasing clouds overtook skies after 02:00, but mainly high thin cirroform overcast. At 08:00 obs time, overcast at mid levels and 13 degrees.

An occasional roar of wind. Temp at 42. Area forecast to be raked by gale force winds this afternoon and tonight, with gusts to storm force, that is, gusts reaching 60-65 knots.
2/25/2019 8:00 AM 0.17 0.5 M 0.5 M Temp range: 54/25. Mild and breezy Sunday morning (2/24) with brief sun visible after sunrise. Lower clouds moved in mid morning as temps continued to rise. Shortly after 13:20, dark cloud bar appeared to SW-NW of location. This was the strong cold front. Heavy showers and high winds developed during fropa. Winds settled down briefly, then the much advertised high wind field enveloped area. Gusts to 55 to 60 knots. A big gust hit station at 16:27. House creaked. At 16:32, power was lost. Then, regained at 18:06. Changeover to light snowshowers occurred in the evening hours, adding a coating of snow. Winds howled to gale force frequently overnight, as temps hit a minimum of 25. At obs, overcast, flurries, high winds and 25.

Due to higher sun angle, snow melted on area streets, highways and parking lots...despite well below freezing temps. Light breezes. Lake effect and unstable air in place. After sundown, low clouds moved away. Skies featured a higher cirroform layer. At obs time, very light "dandruff" snow falling, 13 degrees. Should be noted that average snow depth has not changed in 2 days, due to sublimation of any falling snow.

A few hours later, another surge of snow moved in from off Lake Ontario. At obs time, lake effect snow with breaks in overcast observed. A particularly cold storm, with temps no higher than 18. Normal high now at 38. At obs, light snowshowers, 18.
