Very light precip measuring only a trace fell between 3:37 and 3:48 PM before heavy rain began nearly instantaneously at 4:07, lasting only 4 minutes before moderate/light rain took over until its completion around 4:25 PM. Was unable to get a measurement immediately after heavy rainfall due to frequent lightning, but a total of 0.20" was measured at 4:25 PM. Again, heavy rain came through between 5:07 and 5:25, with the heaviest downpours occurring from 5:10-5:13, 5:16, and 5:19 PM, leading to a total of 0.53" by 5:24 PM. The most significant event, however, occurred at 10:09 PM, when an intense downburst resulted in torrential rain and winds gusting to around 50 MPH, ±10 MPH. A brief lull in the action occurred at 10:25 before moderate rain picked back up at 10:35, lasting until around 10:45 PM. Additional rain may have fallen overnight. |

Was not at home for the duration of last afternoon's storm (8/17), though precip. may have initiated around 2:20 PM, peaked ~2:30, and ended ~2:40 based on radar data. Although wind damage near the gauge was minimal, more notable damage occurred at nearby locations, particularly along Clough Pike. While the majority of the damage consisted of small branches, twigs, and leaves, there were a few medium to large sized branches. In fact, a relatively tall pine tree had fallen near the intersection of Ivy Pointe Blvd. and Clough Pike, entirely blocking the sidewalk on Clough Pike, yet not reaching the roadway. Another large branch from a pine tree had snapped only 10-20 yd. away at an apartment complex. Since I wasn't anywhere nearby during the storm, I was unable to measure or estimate the wind speed/gusts. 0.80" was observed in the gauge upon arriving back at 5:10 PM and is most likely the storm's total, as radar had not indicated any more precip. |

Light precip. initially began at 4:05 PM before moderate rainfall took over at 4:19. It was also at this time when outflow winds associated with the storm occurred, though relatively weak (~30 MPH). Precip. became increasingly lighter as time grew, eventually tapering off completely by 4:55 PM. Only 0.09" was measured after the storm's completion, as the heaviest rainfall from the system remained confined to the northwest of this location. Interestingly, another wave of winds occurred from around 5:10-5:30 PM, with peak gusts estimated ~20-30 MPH. This may have been the remnants of the outflow winds that had once been associated with a damaging MCS over portions of the Midwest earlier that day, though I am not entirely sure. No precip. followed until around 6 PM, when light rain began falling before gradually fading away over time. 0.10" was observed in the gauge this morning under mostly sunny skies. |

Though I wasn't home for the majority of the first round of precip., appears that this location missed the worst of it, which occurred to my southeast in south/central Clermont County. At West Clermont High School near Batavia, minor flooding occurred after torrential rainfall from around 2-2:45 PM. The next wave of rainfall came late ~5 PM before ending completely at 5:35 PM. Additional light to moderate precip. began falling at 5:42 PM, with the heaviest of rain remaining confined to the southeast of this location once more. By the system's completion at 5:58 PM, 0.35" was measured in the gauge. Was unable to observe the gauge between the two periods of rain due to frequent lightning. |

Gauge remained dry up until 5 PM, when a severe thunderstorm complex resulted in blinding, torrential rain, prolific CG lightning, relatively strong wind gusts, and pea sized hail. After 5:22, moderate/heavy bands of rain occurred intermittently, with 1.02" falling by 6:00 PM. Intermittent moderate/heavy rainfall continued until the storm's completion at 6:34 PM, with a total of 1.15". Light fog developed later that evening after the storms had already passed. |
