There was no reading in gauge, all was snow in the funnel. Melted it for reading of .09. I'm calling the snow .25, as that is what I think average would be at time of reading. There was more earlier but it's already melting. I didn't actually measure as depths were too varied. ETA I took a ruler out and measured a couple places. Got .5 inches and one .7, but the pavements are mostly melted, with just a little clear slush, so I think .25 is still a pretty good call. |

29 degrees and light fog. Snow continued yesterday until about noon, with scattered flurries a few times after that. My power had been out since 9am yesterday, and outages are widespread. It did get a hair above freezing yesterday, so there was some melt. When snow stopped at noon, I measured in my data spot, and got 11 inches, but the average this morning is 10 inches. Two at 9.5 and two at 10.5. Melted accumulation is what was in the big part of the gauge, with no funnel or tube. Measured accumulation is what was in the spot I cleared off yesterday. When the snow stopped at noon, I measured 4 inches, but this morning it was 3.5. Melted core for total accumulation is going to be slow coming. No power means the house isn't very warm, and while we have water pressure, the water heater is lukewarm. Melted total accumulation was 1.78. |

Took a walk in the hazelnut orchard behind the house yesterday, and there is a lot of damage to the trees in there, and a lot of fallen trees in the woods surrounding. Yesterday afternoon, over where I work, which is about 8 miles away, the building I work in was struck by lightning. It traveled through the building's wiring and caused interesting damage. A couple computers fried, phone lines went down, as well as the server. One exit point was at an outdoor light pole, and we speculate it generated a kind of EMP that disabled 5 cars. It also blew 3 boards off the fence next to the pole, turned the earth, and cracked the cement base of the pole. Wild 5-10 minute burst that took a large toll. Oh, there was hail, too. About the size of small peas. Again, this was not at this station's site, but I feel it bears reporting. |
