The snow depth and water amount came from the cylinder measurements. I swapped the cylinder with another when the first cylinder contained 10" of snow. I made two measurements from the snowboard before the precipitation changed to freezing rain after sunset. Totals were 7.1" snow with 0.66" water. The cylinder was at 10" with 0.78" of water at the time of the last snowboard measurement. I don't know why there is such a discrepancy. However, I did note that at the time of first snowboard check the cylinder contained 4-5" of snow already. Being the first snowfall of the season the snowboard was on bare ground. Was the residual ground warmth enough to cause some rapid melting in the early hours of the storm? Final total depth from the snowboard was 11.1", with a water total of 1.95" I don't know why the water amount was higher than the cylinder amount. All in all I have more faith in the cylinder values. |

Snow depth was quite variable. Snow too wet for any drifting. I think the variations had to do with melting, as the sun was in and out of the clouds all day and some areas, even though not under trees, did not get as much exposure to direct sunlight. |

Precipitation was definitely snow, but the flakes melted almost immediately upon landing. A few spots showed some white for a very short time. At 9 PM, when I let the dogs out, there was about 3" of snow (observation). This morning when I let the dogs out about 6 AM it was raining and the snow had settled. The snowboard measurements were: depth 2.7", water content 0.96" For the new snowfall I measured the mass of snow floating on the water in the cylinder, and used that mix of rain and snow for the total. As for snow on the ground I didn't know how to handle that as the values are less than the values for a new snowfall. |

Anyway, the day started with hazy horizons and some overcast to the W, calm, and light fog above the ponds. Passing clouds by late AM and then back to mostly clear by 1500 with wind at B4±. Wind down to B0-1 at 2100. |
