Howling winds, gusting above 40 mph, accompanied the sharp drop in temperatures. Before the cold air came roaring in, there were a couple of quick rain showers on the morning of Jan. 20. However, the highlight of the observation period was the total lunar eclipse, which began with a thin cirrus layer creating a beautiful lunar halo. Although the eclipse is over, the full moon is hanging in the western sky at observation.
