Another wet day yesterday with some pouring rain and intense lightning. Drove down to Platteville in S Grant Co., and on the way home around noon or so we encountered intense rain, thunder and lightning almost the entire 50 miles of the trip. When we got home it had almost stopped, but the rain gauge showed less than a half inch at that time. Later it did rain hard for a while starting after 3PM and continuing until after 6PM, There were reports of flooding in S Grant Co. on the 6PM newscast. Not surprised, as they must have gotten at least an inch/hr. from those storms! That area has really been hard hit with rain and flooding this season. |

A warm morning at 62 degrees with some sunshine as well. More rain and storms predicted for late this afternoon and evening. The ground is already saturated, so this could lead to more flooding, especially in our southern counties which still have rivers flooding over roads and many farm fields under water. |

We went from summer to late fall overnight! Yesterday's temps were in the low 80's, and today it was just 40 degrees. It is nice to have bright sunshine in a clear blue sky for a change. If one can believe NWS, it is supposed to rain the remainder of this week and into next as well. |

Another dreary overcast day with a temp of 51 degrees. We have not had a hard frost yet, although the leaves are falling at a steady rate, most of them are still green. I fear we will not have a beautiful display of fall colors due to all of the rain. The hills have changed a lot in the last few days, some of them are nearly at peak color, except for the oaks which are showing no color yet. |

Another rather dark and dreary day with a light drizzle falling. The AM temp was a warm 49 degrees. More rain expected to fall overnight and through Wed. More flooding could occur where the ground is totally saturated, as it is around here. I have never seen the field so soggy, and it is on the top of a hill and covered with grass! It is good to see so much bright green from all of the rains. The fields where there is yellow and brown grain in strips between the green hay fields is beautiful. |

It was pouring rain at 7AM, but I went out anyway to swap gauges(I have parts and pieces of at least 3 of them and a 4th still in the box.) It is very helpful in these situations to have another ready to swap. We are expecting more rain today and into Wed. which is not good news! It is already very soggy here, and the rivers will most certainly rise again. Today will be warm, perhaps into the mid 70's, but by Friday will not make it out of the 40's. Hello Fall! This will bring down many of the leaves that have already turned color, so our fall display will probably not be very pretty this year! |

Today is unseasonably warm at 64 degrees as was yesterday when the temp got into the mid 70's. There was some rain early in the day, then it did not rain until after 10PM, then not as much as was predicted. That was a good thing because the ground here is so saturated it all would have run off and caused flooding again. |

It has been raining steadily since I got up at 7AM and shows no signs of stopping. I can imagine the flooding that must be taking place now since there is absolutely no where for the water to go and there was more rain to our north. With less than 0.3 of an inch yesterday the water was running down the ditch from the fields on top of the hill, and the ditch at the bottom of the hill was running faster than I have seen it for a while. All that water will end up in the Kickapoo river and eventually in the Mississippi near Prairie du Chien. We escaped the worst of the storms last evening. Husband was call out as a weather spotter, said he saw a beautiful shelf cloud that he has not seen for a long time, but no tornado. We got some rain, again no hail or strong winds. The worst of the storm went to our west and north. The counties north of Madison got hit again, one had a tornado that did not touch down. We were even under a tornado watch for most of the evening hours. It was so warm and humid as is it today at 65 degrees. It felt like the middle of July, not October! |

It finally stopped raining sometime around noon, and there were peeks of the sun, but not for long. Today is cold, at 37 degrees, with a strong north wind gusting. The leaves and everything else are blowing around. I think fall has finally arrived. It did not freeze overnight, but some of the tender plants like impatiens are showing signs of a hint of frost. Tonight will be the killing one, especially if it clears off. Today is mostly cloudy but the TV weather man promised some sun. |

It is mostly overcast with a few breaks in the clouds allowing a little blue sky to show through. The temp felt warmer, but actually it was 34.9 degrees. We have had not rain now for two whole days, but some could happen tomorrow. Yesterday was very windy not making it easy to mulch some of the tons of maple, apple, ash, whatever leaves that blanket the ground with a thick coat. So much that one could not identify the sidewalk underneath, and most of them ended up in the house! With 12 little paws in addition to two humans, the inside was almost as bad as the outside. My vacuum gets a real work out these days! I don't know how anyone could survive without a very good vacuum cleaner, especially if there are dogs that shed, and cats that leave a thick mat of hair, fur, whatever everywhere they lay. I found socks curled up in my freshly laundered bad spread sound asleep most of the afternoon. Why did I buy a deep red ribbed bed spread? |

It feels almost balmy outside at 43 degrees. No rain now for three days! We drove from Grove to Gays Mills yesterday, and the Kickapoo River is still very high. It is running bank full as is the Wisc. River at Boscobel. Not over into the parking lot, but the old Boy Scout Camp is entirely under water. Everything is pretty and green, but the leaves are dropping and the colors are not as intense as they usually are. Drove by the orchards up on the hill above Gays and they were mobbed! I never go there on a weekend for that reason. They have opened more parking, and even that was full. Most of the cars bore Iowa plates. I guess they don't have any apples on the other side of the river! Lee bought a couple of bags when he went shopping with Suzie, the neighbor Amish Woman, last week on the other side of the Kickapoo where there are also many orchards. The apples are huge again due to all of the rain we got this fall. I will get my caramel apple yet, and of course some cider doughnuts! |

There was this huge orange ball rising in the east this AM. We have not had sunshine for many days, so it was a welcome sight, although it brought the first killing frost of the season. The AM temp was a chilly 31 degrees, It did snow last night sometime after 8PM. I looked out and saw a few flakes falling from the sky. This AM there are still some remaining on top of the leaves on the deck and on the railings. Our growing season has definitely come to an end. The few flowers remaining are now dead. Actually, today felt and looked like late November instead of mid October. Time to go out and cut more wood!! |

The temp today was a cool 37 degrees, but with the wind it felt much colder. Looks like today will be a nice one except for the wind which will be rather strong. The AM temp was a mild 44 degrees, but the day is predicted to be cooler with rain or snow showers. So far it doesn't appear to be happening! How about the Milw. Bucks beating the great LA Dodgers! Milwaukee deserves a little recognition since they are a small franchise and get little or no credit. I lived in Milwaukee during the hay day of the Braves going to the World Series, so I know how they are feeling now. One more win!! |

A beautiful sunny day with a temp of just 23 degrees. The awful wind from yesterday is gone, thankfully! There were many dead tree branches down, some we were wishing would fall. That will bring the end for the tube in the rain gauge for another season. Hard to believe that winter will soon be upon us once again. At least spring will be here, hopefully in a few short months! The first measurable snow appeared overnight! I guess right on time, too. The only reason I remember so well when it first snows is the date is near or on my mother's birthday which was Nov. 12th. Younger son just missed that day by one day, co his birthday is on Nov. 11th. The sidewalk was very slippery because the ground was warm when it began snowing, so the first bit of it did not freeze. Glad I don't have to go to work at 6AM as I did for many years in Milwaukee when the roads were not salted or plowed. Lots of fun driving on I 94 when you cannot stop, and neither can anyone else! |

Today is another typical November day, overcast and on the chilly side. Today's 27 degrees this AM is what yesterday's high temp was. I'm OK with that. It sis did cloud over yesterday, but the temp did rise and there was no snow here. The NWS said there was snow in Lacrosse where they are located and I and other places what we call "up north". Another clear, sunny but cold day. The AM temp was still below 20 degrees at 19, but it has already warmed up to 22 now in almost 2 hrs. The sun feel good, even if it is quite chilly. Walked my dogs twice yesterday, and they enjoyed getting up in the field too romp around and sniff the mole hills which are numerous and huge. We did not try to plant a garden this year, partly because of them and Lee's health problems just when it should have been planted. Of course the rainy weather did not help either. I think 2018 so far had been the 8th wettest on record. There is still a lot of corn to be harvested around here. These few sunny and dry days should help in that regard, but with so much rain they probably have to dry it no matter if it rains or not. How times have changed. My dad back in the 50's would never have picked corn in the rain, with a small one row tow behind the tractor picker and powered by the power take-off on the tractor. As a kid I used to go out in the field with my dad and sit in the corn wagon. I usually fell asleep and he had to stop his work and move me so the corn would not fall on me. My dad must have had infinite patience!! |

We got our first measurable snow overnight. It was of the rather heavy and wet variety. This being the opening day of the 9-day gun deer season, it was just what the DR ordered! I heard lots of gun fire, so I suppose some of our deer will now be in some one's freezer after they have been on display for several days for all to see. I, myself, do not care for any kind of wild meat be it deer, raccoon, squirrel, elk, moose, or whatever, even grouse and pheasant. I have tried almost all of these and do not like them, period. Our neighbors across the road, who probably already have at least two of the deer we have been feeding all year, make sausage that really isn't too bad since the spices, etc. mask the gamy taste. Since CWD has been on the increase around here for several years, I would not eat anything that had not been tested for it! Proins are very difficult if not impossible to kill with the usual clorox or phenol disinfectant. I know a lady who died of the brain disease she probably got form eating wild game. |

Today was the coldest day of the season with a temp of just 7 degrees. With a snow cover of around 2" it probably will not warm up very fast in spite of the bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. It has been a few years since we have had this much snow in November, at least that stuck on the ground for more than a few hours. I can remember when we first came back here from Milwaukee in the early 70's there was always a lot of snow for Thanksgiving. Now we think it is not normal to have snow this early in the season. This is predicted to be a long, cold, and snowy winter ( it will be a month before actual winter on the calendar is here.) I certainly hope this does not last until later April like it did last year! |

Difficult to believe that 21 degrees felt warm this AM. After yesterday's very cold start it was a welcome relief. Now to put the long over due snow plow on the Ranger so we can plow the road and perhaps get the Tacoma up here. It is a little early in the season to be traversing the road in a LUV for the next 5 months! One can only hope for an early spring. After all the snow in late April last year, we do nor want a repeat again this year. It appears that very little of the snow that fell a couple of nights ago has melted since the temperatures have remained below the freezing mark.
The weather TV says it will be warmer, 45 degrees, on Thanksgiving. One can only hope!! |

Yes, there was measurable rain overnight. Since the AM temp was well above the freezing point at 39 degrees, the warmest it has been all month, therefore no snow, ice or sleet. Very bitter out there with a temp of just 22 degrees, wind chill must be in the teens with that wind! No long dog walks today as neither they or me like wind! |

Today is overcast and windy with a feel of rain/snow in the air. There is a storm on the way with rain, snow, perhaps freezing rain or sleet. Sounds wonderful! If is beginning to rain a little now (9 AM) and since the temp is 31 degrees it will freeze before the temp warms up. I certainly hope that happens; nothing worse that a layer of ice on top of the snow that is still on the driveway. Getting around here on ice is not a very easy thing to do, especially when your are older and not so sure footed as you once were, if ever, in my case. I cannot count the times I have fallen on the ice and never broken anything, just bruises and bumps. |

Today we have a mixture of everything: rain, sleet, and snow. The temp is at 32 degrees so the icing is not too bad, but if the temp falls a degree or two it well be bad! It appears to be getting lighter, so maybe it will clear off and we will have some sunshine which has been absent for many days. Of course if that happens, it will probably get very cold. Not able to measure the snow, or whatever is on the ground. I tried to shovel the sidewalk which is just an icy, slushy mess! |

We had a little bit of everything again yesterday and since there was really no placed to measure anything, I cannot tell what was rain, sleet, or snow. It ended up snowing off and on most of the afternoon. This AM there was a coating of light snow on the sidewalk which had been cleared yesterday. Today is not terribly cold with a temp of 27 degrees with a light north wind. Lots of branches down from the ice and snow and wind. Not a pretty day! NWS says this week will be cold but dry. |

The cold has arrived! Today is just 17 degrees (13 at the NWS in La Crosse), but at least the sun is shining in a partly cloudy beautiful blue sky. There were some flurries late in the afternoon, but non stuck on the ground. We went down to Platteville, and before we left around 5:00 there were flurries in the air which continued until we arrived home. It was a chilly day with a nasty wind blowing which made it seem much colder. Today started out at 22 degrees, but is overcast. The sun may appear by Monday, and Wed. is expected to maybe reach into the 40's which we have not seen for quite some time. November was exceptionally cold with two days of normal temps all month. There may be rain also on Wed. Out road is still mostly ice covered and very slippery. It has not been warm enough to melt any ice, even on the black asphalt.

Today was one of the coldest so far in December at just 13 degrees. It is bright and sunny, with a clear blue sky. We never seem to get a whole day of sun as it usually clouds over later in the day. This is starting out to be a cold and snowy winter. Actually we are behind the average for snowfall for early Dec., but it has stayed on the ground due to the cold temps. Hoping for a warm up by mid week. There have been flurries almost every day, but no accumulation of snow. |

It will be good to get some of the ice melted off the driveway. Sat. will be two weeks of not being able to drive the 4WD truck up here to the house. I brought it in for the winter now. It was raining yesterday AM when we went shopping, and was still drizzling a bit when we got home. The seat on the Ranger was wet. My husband said it was snowing at 10 PM when he took the dogs out, but there is no sight of it now, so there must not have been much accumulation. |

It managed to snow another inch making our total for this storm over five inches. This last snow was light and fluffy so was not difficult to remove. We finally plowed the driveway. Very greatful that we did buy the more powerful Ranger that handled the snow well as did the big snow blower. It beats shoveling the sidewalk and the various paths where we walk and of course for the dogs. They love snow as long as they don't have to walk in the deep part. Of course Ramses goes plowing through the woods if he sees a deer. No new snow overnight, and tomorrow the warm up is supposed to start with temps maybe reaching the high 40's. |

It was snowing hard at 10PM, but had stopped at 7AM only to start up again about an hour or so later and dump probably another inch on the areas we had already cleared, This is the most snow we have had around here in at least 3 years, maybe more. We will be marooned up here until we at least try to plow the driveway. Thankful for the huge snow blower which is great for clearing the walks and areas for the dogs. It will take time to clear the large parking lot that we did not completely clear after the last snowfall. I measure the snow on the cement steps leading up to the parking lot which is pretty much in the open. The snow was almost over my "high" boots. Will go out now and feed the deer after a path has been blown clear. The birds are going crazy at the feeders since there is little food to be had with all of the snow!

Here it could get as cold as -45 degrees, the coldest since 1969. I do remember the mid to late 1960's when it was -30 degrees for a long stretch. Cars then were not what they are today, and rarely started when it was that cold, especially when not in a garage as our was. Today is very cold! Cannot say how cold because neither of our fine digital thermometers is functioning properly. So much for the fancy, you don't have to go outside to read thermometers. Of course mercury is out, so red alcohol is used now, I think, so how good is that when it is around -26 degrees? That is what NWS in La Crosse is reporting, so it is pretty much what it is around here since they are on a hill just like we are, but some 75 or so miles to the north. Regardless, it is darn cold! I did go out to feed the outside animals, and Lee fed the birds on the deck and I fed the ones on the other side of the house. The deer had eaten all of the corn we put out at least twice a day when it is better cold. I remember in 2008, another cold and snowy year, they slept in the woods next to the house and munched on our spruce trees. |

since neither of our thermometers is working, I cannot report the exact tem. here, but the temp at NWS in Lacrosse was -26 degrees. Wind chills in the -30 to -50 degree range depending on the wind, which is pretty light today. There is still much snow on the ground keeping it cold. Warmer weather is predicted for the weekend, as high as 40 degrees on Sunday. That would be a welcomed change from this frigid weather. All of us have "cabin fever" now because we have not been outside for any length of time for several days!! A little snow squall is also in the picture for Friday, then rain. Great!! Ice on top of the snow still on the driveway will mean we won't be able to get down to the road again! Spring, hurry up!! |

We have gone from the deep freeze into Spring in just a few days. Yesterday was down right balmy, in fact it was 37 degrees at 10 PM. Today is very foggy from all of the melting snow, much of which has disappeared in the two days it has been warm. Hope there is not flooding due to the frozen ground not allowing the water to sink in. Will try to measure snow on the ground tomorrow. The AM temp today is 43 degrees. |

Another balmy February day with a temp of 43 degrees and a slight drizzle that has now become rain. At least half of our 11" of snow has melted. It has been very foggy for the past two days. We drove down to Platteville in S. Grant Co. yesterday and the fog was so thick one could hardly see a foot in front of the vehicle. We were very thankful to arrive home safely after this terrible experience, especially since many cars did not have headlights on and were almost impossible to see. There are so many white and silver cars that are impossible to spot in the dense fog. I wish people would be smarter about using headlights when it is so foggy! There otta be a law and a fine for such stupidity!! |

We had a little bit of everything from rain;, freezing rain, and snow yesterday. Today appears to offer the same. The ground is covered with and icy mix today making getting around difficult, although it is not as slippery as ice, it does making walking a challenge. I saw the Crawford Co. snow plow which appeared to be spreading sand on the co. road hill. EOT says driving is hazardous this AM. We are supposed to get snow, up to maybe 2" later today. The AM temp was 20 degrees. cold enough to keep the precip frozen. Yesterday we drove over to Gays Mills to measure the river depth for the NWS in La Crosse. It was just a little above flood stage which is 13 ft. Most of the river was frozen over, and the water was over the dam. Very difficult to measure the snow, frozen rain and sleet on the ground! |

Another day of "mixed' precipitation yesterday. It rained, sleeted, snowed, than rained again. The side walk is covered with ice crystals, or whatever, about a quarter of an inch thick. The deck on the east side of the house has an even thicker layer of it. Makes walking very difficult, especially when there is ice under it. The Co road appears to be clear, although from this distance it is not easy to tell for sure. Not able to measure anything again because it is such a mess. I keep forgetting to see if I can remove the big tube from its holder without breaking it. Sometimes it is frozen solid in its holder. The AM temp was not beastly cold at 23 degrees. We sis not get above freezing yesterday. |

Not quite as cold as the Polar Vortex, but not very nice at -7degreesat 7AM. It is supposed to warm up into the teens today, then tomorrow the snow arrives. We seem to be in a pattern of cold, then warm up and snow. It did not snow yesterday and the day stayed sunny, but remained very cold with a strong north wind gusting up to 40mph or more at times keeping it from getting very warm. I'm ready for spring which is only about 6 weeks away, but seems like an eternity! Yes, last spring we had 6" of snow on Apr. 16th. Not a good way to welcome spring! |

Today is warmer today at 21 degrees with little wind, but the bad is coming in the form of a snow storm expected to drop somewhere around 7" of new snow. I'm tired of shoveling, but there is much left of winter! I did hear some birds singing this AM, the Titmouse and a woodpecker, but when I hear the Cardinal, I will know that there is hope for spring! |

No snow overnight, and it did warm up a bit to 22 degrees today. Some light rain or drizzle expected with a high temp approaching 40 degrees. Maybe it will melt some of the layer of ice on the sidewalk. We had to hire our road plowed because there is so much snow that a bigger and more powerful plow was needed to move it back so we can plow the next snowstorm. He had a terrible time because the plowed snow was mostly ice underneath from the rain that came first, then the very cold weather. We could have never moved it! |

It is back into the deep freeze this AM with a temp of just -1 degree with a brisk win d making it feel colder. I had three dogs walking on three legs when out this AM. I saw at least 8 deer heading to the feeder before I got downstairs. Of course the feeder was empty, so I filled it and headed in with the dogs. A few seconds later there were at least 6 animals eating already. As for the birds, they are eating every crumb we put out! It snowed enough to cover the sidewalk between 5 and 7PM. No snow overnight, just bitter cold! |

Woke up to bright sunshine and a very cold temp of -2 degrees F. It did remain sunny almost all day yesterday, but the temp never got close to the seasonal normal of 30 degrees. Hope today is different, but I doubt it will. After all, we still have over a month of winter left, and it did snow last year in the middle of April! Snow expected tomorrow and next week as well. I think we have enough. Good for all the skiers, snowmobilers, snow plow drivers, etc. I'm thinking about getting some snow shoes. |

No snow yesterday or over night, just bitter cold at -2 degrees this AM. We seem to get one or the other now. I was reading an old Milwaukee Journal from 1994 as I was building my morning fire. On the front page was an article about how many water mains had ruptured from the extreme cold. There was a map of the temps in WI and to list a few, it was -19 in Green Bay and -16 in La Crosse. There was also a picture of a row of cars parked on an east side street that were buried in deep snow. I guess what we have now is not that unusual for Wisconsin, although younger people have no idea what it was like some 25 years ago! They think this extreme cold and snow is due to climate change! I am going to send this article to our fine senator Ron Johnson, who is old enough to remember those days. I did measure the total snow on the ground yesterday up in the open field, so there would be no problem with trees, buildings or plowed snow. Interesting! |

Woke up to more snow, and it is still falling. Very difficult to tell if it is snowing or blowing due to a gusting (hard to tell from which direction) wind. The snow is heavier today, due to the fact that the temp is 21 degrees, much warmer than the -2 yesterday. The weather man on Madison TV says there are at least three more storms to come from the west, so we aren't finished with the snow just yet. |

Another bright sunny day with a temp of 14 degrees. The bad storm is slated to hit tomorrow and Sunday with rain, sleet, snow and finally a February thunder storm. Mummm, that's interesting. Maybe we will have thunder snow. I do hope we do not end up with an inch or so of ice again. I just got rid of the last ice on the steps with salt. I hate to use it because of the dogs walking in it and it gets stuck between their toes and they have to lick it off. Not good for them! Who knows what is in that salt? Although what I am using is softner salt which works better than the salt sold to remove ice. I heard that there is a shortage of salt around here. |

Next week is supposed to be back into the deep freeze once again. Will we ever get rid of this snow? We will probably run out os LP if this keeps up much longer. Hate to have to hire someone to plow and sand the road so the gas truck can get up here. We refuse to go out into the woods where there is plenty of firewood, just can's get to it! It did snow a little yesterday, but did not accumulate much. It was snowing in the early afternoon and again after dark. The cold is expected to arrive tonight and last through Monday producing wind chills of -25 degrees here. The TV weather guy says this should be the last of the extreme cold. I hope he is right! I can remember some warm March days and some very cold ones. When I was a kid in the 1940's, spring always came in March. I can remember helping my dad plant oats during spring break from school. I also remember walking in waist deep snow to school when I stayed with my grandparents in town in the winter. |

Today is very cold at just 2 degrees, but it is sunny. The next two days will also be very cold with wind chills expected to be -30 degrees tomorrow. The rest of the month is expected to have below normal temps. We just had the 6th snowiest winter, and one of the coldest Feb. ever. It would be great if things would bet back to normal. Our driveway is still coated with at least an inch of ice, so we won't be able to drive up to the house until it melts. Even with salt, these cold temps do not allow it to melt the ice and snow. I am very tired of this winter, period! More snow is on the way for later in the week. |

I'm willing to bet that today's AM temp of -14 degrees breaks a record for the coldest temp for March 4th. NWS had some numbers for the winter(DEC. 1 - FEB. 28) & FEB. '19) This year ranked #6 for snowiest Feb. #1 was the winter of 70/71. I was living in Milwaukee then where the temps and snowfall are very different from here because of Lake MI. Today appears to be a beautiful day when looking outside. but going out is another story with the below 0 temps! The sun is getting higher in the sky, and is feeling warmer now. The snow on the blacktop driveway is melting in the sun. The problem is all of the evergreen trees that shade a large part of it! |

I sometimes watch some of the Alaska and Yukon programs, and they go about their lives in waist high snow and 40 degrees below temps all the time and their winter lasts much longer than ours. There was some snow that fell sometime before 10 PM It was more than a trace, but barely measurable. Today we have bright sunshine again so it should warm up a bit.

This is getting boring! The AM temp was a frigid 2 degrees today. There is supposed to be a warm up into the 40's by the week end. Then there will be rain on top of all the snow we have, and of course the thick layer of ice under the snow. The road is all ice under the snow that was not removed by the plow. It will take several days of at least 40 degrees temps to melt that mess! It better happen soon because we will be out of LP! |

Not sure where the storm will track, but so far we should only get rain. Great news on top of all this snow and ice it will run off into the rivers and we will have flooding again! It was a little warmer today with a temp of 16 degrees. A winter storm is baring down on us again. This time we could get up to 2" of heavy wet snow and maybe over an inch of rain. That should make for an interesting week end! All of these storms have occurred on week ends this season. A little warmer today with a temp of 27 degrees under an overcast sky. Yesterday was the first day in March that the temp started out above single digits. I did go for a walk with one of my dogs down the driveway. It is still mostly snow over ice covered and becoming slippery in the places that the snow has worn off. I just followed the deer tracks. They are smart enough to walk where they will not slip on the ice. I suppose a broken leg or serious injury from a fall could mean death for them. We did see a young buck with the herd yesterday, the first time since last fall. The snow better melt soon or we will be broke feeding the wildlife. We have at least a dozen mourning doves that sit in one particular tree and now eat the seeds we sprinkle on the ground. I have seen 6 male cardinals at one time for the first time in over three years. It used to be quite common to see a dozen or more, but the last few years their numbers have been way down. Of course this is the first winter in many years that we have had this much snow on the ground for this long. More heavy, wet snow expected tonight and into tomorrow. |

We had a little bit of every kind of precip from rain, freezing rain and then snow, the very wet and heavy variety one sees in spring snows here. I did not put out the rain gauge, my bad, but it rained most of the afternoon, then turned to snow. It is like a winter wonderland with everything out there is covered in ice and then the snow stuck to the branches and pines. I'm really surprised that there are not more limbs down, just small branches. It is warm at 30 degrees. I have never seen so much ice on the ground. Our sidewalk is covered with a thick layer, of course that is on top of the layer that was never removed from the last ice storm. Just when we thought our road might be passable for a vehicle other than the ranger, this is a major set back. |

This will be the cooler day, then things will warm up for the rest of the week, with some rain, of course. The ice on our sidewalk where the rain ran down the steps from the parking lot and then froze is at least 3" thick. Walking around here is very treacherous to say the least. In the middle of the steps is a huge deer hoof print that froze. We did see a buck one day last week, but have not seen him since. Life is never dull here in the country! The AM temp was a chilly 19 degrees. I will go out later and measure the snow on the ground and try to capture the water content as well. |

There was some thawing of the thick coating of ice on the driveway where the black material is showing through, and the blacktop part is almost bare with the exception of the very shady parts. It began raining since around 4PM and continued throughout the night. The temp did stay above freezing, (it was 36 degrees this AM) some of the ice and snow did melt. I put out the rain gauge in the AM so did capture all of the rain. The problem was getting up into the parking lot to retrieve it! The sidewalk and the parking lot are still covered with a thick coating of very hard ice making walking almost impossible. The ice on the steps was over an inch thick yesterday. I put some salt on it, so was melted today. With a thick snow pack still remaining, I'm afraid there will be flooding around here (I measured over 7" up in the field on Monday) if this keeps up. At this time we are marooned here because we cannot get to a vehicle, even a 4WD side by side that is in the garage. Even if we could get it out, part of the road is till solid ice since the temps here have not been very warm and there has been not sunshine to melt it. |

Not much rain yesterday, but it did not get very warm so the ice would melt. We are still dealing with an ice covered sidewalk and parking lot. We were finally able to get the Ranger out of the garage and make it down the hill. The bottom of the driveway before the Co road is a pile of ice since it rained and ran down the road, then froze there. The ice I was finally able to scrape off the steps was at least an inch thick and very, very hard. The sun never came out so the melting was not very great. Today is partly cloudy with some sunshine which should help with the ice melting. It became warmer overnight with a southeast wind. At 8AM it was 49 degrees. |

There were a couple of rain showers around noon and again in early afternoon. The temp remained above freezing, thus no more ice. With the help of some salt and sand we were able to get the Ranger out of the garage, the sidewalk mostly cleared, and the road was beginning to thaw. The warm up was short lived as it became colder and this AM the temp was just at the freezing point, 32 degrees. We drove over to Gays Mills to take a river reading and see if there was flooding there. The normally dry ditch along Co. S was running at a fast pace as were all of the creeks along the way. The Kickapoo was just at flood stage, which is 14.0 feet, at 14.09 feet, and bank full. The entire valley along Hwy.131 was full of water. Thankfully it stopped raining and the temp dropped, thus flooding will probably be less than it could have been. There is still a lot of snow on the ground to melt and run into the rivers. |

It never got very warm all week, but today could be nice if the sun continues to shine. Much of our snow pack has melted, the there is flooding all over SW Wisconsin. If Gays Mills floods AGAIN, there will be nothing left saving there anymore. The few houses and businesses left would probably leave because there is nothing left worth saving anymore at a great cost to everyone, including the tax payers. |

Another day of bright sunshine and cool, 21 degrees, temps. Yesterday was a nice one except for the wind which made it seem much colder than the temp indicated. The streams have slowed down because of the slowing down of the ice melt. Perhaps we will escape the worse flooding after all if it does not rain or snow. Mid week is expected to be very warm, perhaps in the mid 50's again. Much of the thick ice here has melted. There are still patches left here and there, and there is plenty of snow in the woods and where it was plowed or shoveled. |

Yesterday remained very cool, never rose above the 30's in spite of some sunshine. Today started out quite cold at 30 degrees under a bright blue sky and sunshine. There is still a lot of snow on the ground not to mention patches of very hard ice. Our road is mostly bare now, something I thought I would never see! Hopefully we are finished with the snow and ice for this season, but I seriously doubt it.
I went up to the field (15 acres on the crest of the hill) where about half is still covered with snow. Under the snow is a thick layer of ice. I took an average of snow depth where there was snow. The snow is 'corn snow", mostly ice crystals. The water content is very high. |

Today dawned bright and sunny with a temp of 32 degrees. Yesterday never got very warm in spite of the fact that there was some sunshine later in the day. All of the remaining snow, which was melting at a fast pace, keeps the temps down. There is still quite a lot of ice remaining in places where the sun never gets to or where the water ran and then froze when the temps dropped to sub zero for days. I saw a flock of robins and the cardinals are starting to sing and the males are fighting. I thought I heard a blue bird a few days ago, but so far have not seen any. Time to clean out their boxes, but getting to them may be a problem due to remaining snow and plenty of mud in the road. |

Today is bright and sunny, but cold. There was a thick layer of ice on the truck's windshield. The temp now is 39 degrees(in the sun). A lot of snow still remains here around the house and in shaded areas. Up in the open field, most of it has disappeared. I cleaned out one blue bird house, but there is no way we can get the Ranger up there because the driveway is very muddy due to the melting ice and snow, and the fact that there is little gravel there. We can drive down to the back door now because of the sand we put on the icy area. |

Much warmer today at 38 degrees under an overcast sky and it is beginning to rain now. It is predicted to warm up into the 50's today. Yesterday did not feel very warm because there was a nasty wind blowing. Did not see the Aurora because of the clouds that moved in some time before dark. Hope the rain does not amount to a lot because the snow is still melting and the frost is beginning to come out of the very frozen ground. The Mississippi River is already at or near flood stage form all of the snoe melt. |

Today is cool with a temp of 24 degrees under a sunny, blue sky. Yesterday never got very warm in spite of the sunshine all day. I went to a weather spotting class in Viroqua (Vernon CO.), since there are none in Crawford this year. My husband is one of two HAMS left in the county. Richland Co.used to have a very active group because of the HAM Radio club there, which, for all I know, is now extinct. Radio traffic on the 2M repeater is next to nothing now. Sad. No young people are interested in the hobby. Too boring, and requires some knowledge which a cell phone or video game does not!! |

Today is warmer at 38 degrees, but mostly overcast. Yesterday stayed mostly sunny but was not very warm due to a cold NW wind again. Much of the snow on the ground has melted leaving only that in shady areas and where it was piled along the road and around the house. Until allthat melts it probably will remain cool. |

Another bright and sunny day with a temp of 43 degrees. Yesterday got up to 62 degrees here and remained sunny for most of the day. Colder air is expected for tomorrow, and perhaps some snow in late afternoon. Went up and measured snow on the ground there and in the woods yesterday. There is a large patch of snow in the woods just west of the house which is 3" deep yet. There are many more patches like that in the woods. I was surprised that the south side of the field was almost bare, just two patches of mostly ice in the SW and SE corners. The remainder of the field was bare. The rhubarb is starting to show red buds emerging from the ground. Some of the flowers are starting to emerge as well here by the house where it is more sheltered. |

Today is bright and sunny, but on the cool side at 34 degrees. The remaining snow pack is melting fast, and without more rain that should help the flooding situation. We drove down Hwy. 35 along the big river, and could see it has risen quite a bit. Many trailers have been moved, and water is over many of the camping sites, etc. that are out on the fringe. Saw many trains
on the busy BSSF tracks along the river bank. Most were hauling shipping containers and truck trailers. No barge traffic yet. |

The Wisconsin is also bank full and has been for days. |

Another sunny cool day with a starting temp of 24 degrees. At least it is not snowing or did not snow as was predicted. Hard to believe it is the last day of March, which is always a miserable, cold, and windy one. We are just too anxious for warm weather to come. Hopefully it will soon. Now with the dry weather and low humidity, there is a threat of fire in all of the dead leaves and grass, etc. There are still some patches of snow remaining along the road where it was piled from the plow. We were finally able to get our summer vehicle out of the garage. |

Today is overcast, but warmer at 33 degrees. Yesterday seemed so cold with that strong North wind gusting. Rain or snow expected overnight with the northern part of the state predicted to get and inch of it. There are still some piles of snow along the road and in ditches where the sun cannot reach it. I saw one blue bird two days ago, but none yesterday. I hope they did not give up; I did clean out two of the houses I could walk to. It should be dry enough now to drive the Ranger up there and clean out the rest. Perhaps we should buy at least one new one! |

Woke up to rain, and later heavy, wet snow falling at a fast pace for perhaps 20 minutes. Because the temp was 35 degrees and the ground was warmer, some melted, but there is now a coating on the ground. It did rain last PM, and again before 7AM, but quickly turned to snow at about 6:50. It is still snowing now at 7:39AM. This is all we need, More Snow!!The Wisconsin River at Boscobel was higher yesterday and covered the entire parking lot of the boat landing which it had not the day before. All we need here is more flooding! |

The temp today was 40, which is the warmest for about a week although today will remain cool, highs only in the 40's. The weekend is supposed to see 60's with more rain. It did rain a bit yesterday, but remained cloudy most of the day. Today is mostly sunny with a temp of 42 degrees and is supposed to reach into the 70's for the second time this spring. The big storm is supposed to arrive on Wed and into Thurs. We could get up to 2" of snow and lots of rain and wind. Too early to predict just where the band of snow will go. Hopefully it will track farther to the north and miss us. It is so nice to see green plants emerging from the leaves, and hopefully the ground will dry out. There are still piles of mostly ice left in places along the road. This was a terrible winter, and it seems it just cannot let go! |

Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day with bright sunshine almost all day and a warm southerly breeze that did turn into a gusty one later in the afternoon. Today is starting out sunny with a temp of 44 degrees under an intense blue sky. It is expected to end by tomorrow when a fierce spring storm is supposed to arrive with rain, sleet, snow and perhaps a thunder storm. We could used some moisture as it is beginning to dry out now and everything is so dirty after the snow finally melted. There are still at least two places where snow and ice remain where there were big piles of it from the road plowing. I only hope we do not get a lot of snow (not much predicted here), but the storm track is not yet determined for sure. |

The "winter" storm is expected to arrive sometime today and last until Friday. NWS still isn't sure exactly where it will go. Snow around and above I-90 and rain here in the south, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens! It was a shock to walk out onto the deck and find it was 33 degrees, again. I should know better than to think the warmth would last through April or even May. I remember wearing a winter coat at the bus stop in Milwaukee in early June. |

Another overcast and cold day with a temp of 32 degrees. Spring seems to have abandoned us for more winter. There is still a coating of snow on the ground, and on top of it is a coating of pine needles and broken branches. This icy and windy weather had taken a toll on our pines. Two huge branches broke off, and many smaller ones plus the dead ash and whatever the other trees are, are all over also. Cleaning up is going to require some time and work. At least the wind has died down and it has not rained or snowed in the last 24 hours. |

Today is the first sunny one in about a week! So nice to see the sun out. Everything around here is still a mess from all of the snow, ice and wind that brought down many tree branches. It is still windy and a bit cool. The AM temp was 27 degrees because it did clear up overnight and the clouds finally left. According to the TV weather, the jet stream was way far south allowing cold air from up in Canada to come into the US. That has gone back up north which is a good thing. It is supposed to warm up considerably the next two days. |

The rain predicted for yesterday did not materialize! We got a brief shower in the AM and then one more later in the afternoon. We drove down from La Crosse starting around 2PM, and drove through a very heavy downpour not long after leaving there. It did not last very long, and by the time we arrived in Crawford Co. there was another very brief one. It barley rained when we got home. Things are starting to green up, but we cold use more moisture. Our yard, if one could call it that, is a real mess with downed branches both from the pines and other trees. What appears to be the top of one of the white pines is down in the woods beside the road up to the field. There are small branches and pine needles everywhere! My husband said last fall he hauled away 19 wheel barrow loads of leaves, etc. and has already removed many more this spring. Just when he thinks he is done, it becomes very windy and brings down more! There are broken branches all over the parking lot, too. The AM temp was a chilly 41 degrees. |

It was so warm upstairs that we turned on the AC for a short time to cool off a west facing bedroom at the top of a modified A frame. It appears that a big storm system is headed this way with perhaps severe weather later this PM. We could use some rain as things seem to be quite dry here. It rained a brief shower in the morning, then at 4PM it began raining steadily until after 10PM. We really needed the rain here, but there are problems on the two big rivers near here. The Wisconsin has gone out of its banks in the usual place near the Dells, and the Mississippi has not gone down from the snow melt, etc. We drove down along it from Lynxville to Prairie last week. It was higher than it was in 2010. Parts of Prairie are under water. There was a big picture in the local paper of St Feriole Island under water. |

Today is chilly and overcast with a light rain falling. The temp is just 44 degrees. That rain is going too turn to snow later this PM, and perhaps accumulate up to 8" here. We removed the snow plow from the Ranger, so will be stranded up here until it melts. This week is also supposed to be cold, so I guess it will not melt very fast either. I certainly hope the snow melt does not cause more river flooding. The Wisconsin at Boscobel is the highest I have ever seen it in the over 50 years we have been coming here!
The Mississippi on Hwy 35 is also very high. We drove down along it two weeks ago, and it, too, is higher than I have ever seen it. My uncle had a cottage at Cassville on the river, and only once can I remember that it got flooded after they moved to higher ground. |

It began snowing around 10AM and continued well past 4PM. Sometimes there were huge flakes, and at other times just snow falling at a fast rate. Much of it melted as the ground was warm. At 7PM I decided to measure what was on the ground, although at least half it had melted and there were bare spots everywhere. The road was completely bare as was the parking lot, but there was 3" in some places under the trees and on the grass. Difficult to know exactly how much had fallen. The rain gauge was frozen it its holder, but did thaw by 9:30 AM. The temp at 7AM was 32 degrees here and 31 degrees at the Boscobel Airport which is in the WI River valley. |

It is a bit warmer, too, with a starting temp of 44 degrees on the way to the 50's. Some sunshine would be nice, also some warmth. We bought a lot of annual flowers that are out in a very cold greenhouse because of no sun. We used to have a gas heater when we were using it, but it has fallen into disrepair due to all the humidity there with not use to dry it out. There is a heat lamp and a grow lamp, but neither offers much heat. We built a fire in the wood stove in the spa room that does help. Now the fun part is cutting enough wood for it and the houe in the rain. |

A beautiful morning with bright sunshine in an intense blue sky, devoid of any clouds. The temp is 53 degrees, warmer than it got on at least two days this week! Hope it stays all day because there is so much outside work to be done. Yesterday we cut down a dead pine tree close to the spa building to burn because we have many flowers in the greenhouse that was getting no sun and tropical plants like warmth. There are really too many trees now for the greenhouse to be very sunny. When we built it, the trees were small, but that was probably some 40 years ago! How time flies. There is a small wood stove in the spa itself that produces a lot of heat when burning dry pine wood. |

A warm up is expected tomorrow through the week end, but if the predictions are as good as the one for today, I don't expect it to happen. It was supposed to rain yesterday and early today, but nothing, not one drop! Not complaining but the farmers really need some warm sunny days to get the corn and beans planted. Nothing will grow either in this kind of cold temps without sunshine. Of the few plants I did manage to get in the ground last week, about half are dead or going to die. Those in the green house are suffering the same fate, even if we do have a grow light. Just not enough sun and warmth, especially those from a tropical environment. I should have known better then to spent the better part of $100 on plants this early. |

Today is beginning as a nice one, although the temp was still a cool 54 degreed and some clouds have started to appear in an intense blue sky. Yesterday did get up into the 70's for most of the afternoon and it did not rain. The rain is expected to return tomorrow and into the week end as well. We drove over to see the DMV in RC to renew my driver's license since I have a June birthday. The bottom lands are very wet. If the sun does not shine and the cold temps persist, there is no way those farmers are going to plant their crops any time soon. Such a shame. Many have not been paid for last year's crops because there is no shipping of grain on the Mississippi because of the high water. |

We seem to have regressed today to a rainy and quite cool day with a temp of just 53 degrees with rain falling. Another day like yesterday would have been nice, but this year that doesn't seem to be possible. The poor farmers will never get their crops in no will we get the garden tilled! |

Today is overcast and warm with a temp of 65 degrees. There was some rain overnight, but the bulk of it fell before noon on Friday. We drove down to Platteville(S Grant Co) in the pouring rain all 50 miles of it. It stopped just as we reached out destination, Greenwood Cemetery, although there was some thunder. What better place to be than in the cemetery, under a tree, with an umbrella, during a thunder storm. Actually the storm, the rain anyway, never reached us. |

After a very beautiful summer-like day with a temp in the 80's,we have returned to the usual overcast sunless and very cool day,at just 54 degrees this AM.
We did get a lot of outside work done, but there is much too be accomplished, and I fear it will rain later. The weather said not until tonight, but I have little faith in that when I look at the sky! |

Today is overcast and chilly. There is a huge storm out in Iowa which is supposed to arrive here soon. It was starting to sprinkle and the wind picked up around 9AM, but so far no big rain or thunder storm. I thought I heard thunder in the distance, but I don't hear very well at that frequency. Not a good day for a picnic, so we decided to defer to a nicer day since we can go any time. One of the advantages of being retired! |

We seem to be back into the pattern of rain for a week, then clear off for a few days, then repeat. Today is overcast and chilly again with a temp of 54 degrees. Some sunshine would be nice to help dry things out a bit. We did get some of the garden planted; just hills of vines. It was really too wet to till, but we did it any way. I missed not having any squash last year, so hope we do better this year. There were three Orioles eating the jelly before I got back into the house this AM. They are really eating a lot this year! The oranges are disappearing too, except I know the big old red breasted woodpecker is eating a lot. He can just peck all of the pulp out of the orange and leave the shell. |

Today is a carbon copy of yesterday with overcast skies and a temp of 55 degrees. There was a storm to our south in the early evening, but it did not get this far north. According to the TV weatherman said it is our cool weather that keeps the storms away. We certainly do not need any more rain right now!. My husband went to La Crosse yesterday, and he said the Kickapoo River was very muddy there north of Viroqua where it runs along Hwy 61. We are going into Boscobel today so will see the Wisc. River that has been high, bank full, for what seems like weeks. |

We had the worst thunder storm of the season so far overnight. I woke up around 2:30AM to thunder and lightning and rain on the roof. This AM husband said we had water in the basement, the drain plugged up with pine needles so it overflowed and allowed the water to run across the sidewalk and then, over the window well and into the window. He also said there was hail, the size and amount I do not know since I went back to sleep and heard or saw nothing more.
There must have been flooding with that amount of rain falling that hard over a short period of time. We are going up to Viroqua, so may see something, although I think this storm was very local as have been all of the storms this spring. |

Today we decoded t0 attend the Crawford Co. Dairy Breakfast which is held in each of the 72 WI counties during June dairy month. Since it was less than 2 miles away on the next Co. road, getting there was easy. We were up shortly after 6AM and back home before 8AM. Their daughter was last year's Alice in Dairyland They are known for their Jersey Cattle, which were just beautiful, if one can call a dairy cow beautiful. Not many farmers rains them because they are smaller than a Holstein and produce very high butter fat content milk which is not what people want these days. Any way it was an interesting experience. People were bussed in from all over the county due to the limited parking. We are located on the far west side of county about 35 miles from Prairie du Chein, the Co Seat. Gays Mills has the Co. fair grounds about 10 or so miles from here. We are in Boscobel(Grant Co.) school district, have a Gays Mills mailing address, and our phone is CenturyLink, the worst in the area, with no broad band and no plans for it. This computer is very slow, and sometimes we have no service at all. Streaming a movie would be impossible at these speeds. |

Today dawned bright and sunny, but cool at just 52 degrees. If the sun stays out it will be a nice day with low humidity and little or now wind. We do have some little knats that attack you when outside and are very annoying, and sometimes they bite! We always seem to have some new insect, animal, or plant that pesters us. I'm hoping the large moles that do so much damage have left us. They here earlier, but no sign of them now. One can only hope because they do so much damage due to the size of the mounds of dirt they create and the tunnels they dig everywhere. |

The bulk of the rain fell in the AM from a rather intense thunder storm that produced pouring rain, wind, and some loud thunder for about an hour. Then after 11PM it rained again, but I slept through it, so do not know how bad it was. All of this rain is not going to help the river flooding situation or the farmers being able to plant their crops. The last I heard, WI had just half of the corn planted that should have been planted for this date. |

Today is shaping up to be a nice one again with clear blue skies and bright sunshine. We have to do some shopping so will not be able to work here, but we did get the beans planted yesterday and some other vines like cucumbers and squash. Our tomatoes are doing well since we got the water system up and running. Now to keep the deer out, although they seem to have disappeared. Yesterday when we went to get egg from the neighbor west of here I saw two new fawns in the weeds beside the road. They are so cute. That is the second time I have seen the babies along Co. S, thus I know they are here. I suppose the does have slowed down since they have babies to tag along. |

Our beautiful spring weather has given way to clouds, cooler temps and of course, some rain. It is raining a little now and actually did rain a bit earlier, enough to pool on the deck and dampen the sidewalk. So much for outside work today! I did get all of the plants we bought in La Crosse planted, though, and they are doing well considering they were a bit past their prime. I have learned that they can be pruned successfully without killing them. |

Today dawned clear, windy and quite chilly. The AM temp was the coolest it has been, but it is now past 8:30 and it is not yet 60 degrees. At least the wind will help keep the gnats away. Yesterday did have some rain, but not the amount predicted. Perhaps that is a good thing with all of the flooding that has taken place around here this season. The huge gulley that has been getting bigger since the previous owner of the field on the hill above it decided to clear out all of the brush and trees that were planted years ago just to stop the erosion. The current farmer, an Amish Man, has made an attempt to slow down the water, but so far has not been very successful. I can no longer cross this ditch since the last big rain washed out all or the big rocks and gravel and the tube we put in there several years ago. Now we will have to haul half of the hill above Co. S that has fallen down to fill
it again! That is not an easy task for two "old" people who can't do as much as we did even 5 or so years ago. |

It did not rain yesterday, but a sunny morning gave way to an overcast afternoon and the temps started out cool and never warmed up much. There was also a very strong SW wind that produced many pine needles on the ground and in everything else like flower pots and door mats. I'd rather deal with leaves once a year than these needles that are a constant mess. Also I have never seen so many pine cones on the ground and hanging on the trees as we have this year. |

We bought over 30#s of strawberries from the Amish neighbor. So far I have frozen five trays (I use large cookie sheets), then put the frozen berries in quart and a few gallon
freezer bags. I have already done three and have two left. The rest are made into freezer jam which will occupy all of this afternoon. |

They promised a sunny morning, but I got up at 7AM and it had just finished raining, which it did again around 10 AM. The humidity is very high and the temp is rising to perhaps the mid to high 80's. Not a good day for outside projects of which I have many. I can't spray the Canada's or hoe the vines due to the wet ground. I dug up some of the corn and bean seeds which did not grow because it remained very cold and damp for at least a week after they were planted. Of course the mole must have eaten most of the beans, but left the radishes which all grew up to tops. My grandmother would have said I planted them in the wrong phase of the moon. I bought an Almanac a few years ago that does have the proper times to plant certain root crops that the old timers used to rely on.

Can't complain because I can remember when we were first married we lived in an upstairs apartment in an old house, and it was over 90 for about a week. The last weather report I say predicted storms for today, but so far nothing. The AM temp was a toasty 72 degrees with high humidity and an overcast sky. We really can't complain about the heat as there has been only one day when it was over 90 degrees. The plants are growing because they love this! Hopefully the corn that got planted late will catch up, and the rain will continue to keep it growing. There are quite a few fields around here that have been left unplanted. Also some farmers are choosing alternative crops such as hemp which was legalized and seems to be working out well for those who are growing it. |

Another strong overnight storm produced almost two in inches of rain, wind, and water in the basement, again!
I awoke around 2 AM to some pretty strong lightning and thunder. The drainage system plugged up again allowing the water to go into the window well and overflow into the basement. So many pine needles and dead leaves and grass that wash down into the grate. Why are we having so many night-time storms this year? We have had very few during the day time hours. There must have been some flash flooding with this one. I hate to think of what this has done to the hilly corn fields around here! |

This time we had one of out downpours starting around 5 PM and lasting until past 7 PM. The rain came down in torrents accompanied by very active lightning and some pretty loud thunder. We had redone our drainage system, and this time it worked, so no water over the window well and into the basement. Our road is in bad shape now after three of these intense storms. The corn fields are starting to grow now, so maybe there won't be so much washing, although there will be some, I'm sure, with the downpour we had, and it lasted a long time with great intensity. We certainly don't need any more rain! |

Over four and a half inches of rain in two days! I was surprised to see water in the large gauge again today! I was raining at 2AM and is still raining now past 8:30. There was much lightning and a constant rumble of thunder. I ran out to retrieve the gauge thinking I could just read it an d run back in the house, but I had to return for another gauge and run back out to exchange them. I just heard a loud clap of thunder, so it isn't over yet! We do not need any more rain right now. We will be going into Boscobel later today. The path along Saunders Creek had been under water most of this spring, and this certainly won't help the situation. I went to the Farmers Market in Lion's Park in Gays Mills yesterday which is next to the Kickapoo River and often floods. I was surprised that it was not under water then, but may be today depending on how much rain falls up stream. |

We weren't supposed to get rain last night, but some time around 8:30 PM the sat TV started to cut out as it does when there is rain or snow. Upon nvestigation, it was indeed raining, hard. It continued until shortly before 10PM producing over a quarter inch of rain. Actually it was getting dry around here after three days of sunshine and wind. Everything is pretty and green again! I don't have to water my flowers or the vine garden now. |

Yesterday remained cool and mostly sunny. This time of year is when we usually get the hottest weather of the season, so a lovely, cool day was wonderful. I mowed my patches of grass and was able to be outside all day without suffering from the heat and humidity. It is supposed to remain cool for about the next couple of weeks according to the TV weatherman who has been right more than the NWS about out weather! |

We had a rather wicked thunder storm starting around 87uPM and lasting past 10:00. There was some intense lightning and very loud thunder. Just thankful we finished the patio door so the rain did not get in. I guess husband has not forgotten his carpentry skills after all! Just have to paint the trim, which is cedar so rain will into damage it. Today we buy new blinds as the flying glass, yes it was tempered safety glass, but some of it managed to escape and cut tiny holes in the vertical blinds. Time for new ones anyway.

It did not rain as predicted yesterday from 3 - 9PM. At least today as sunny with less humidity which is a good thing. We are expecting a (telephone Tech??) to come and find out what is wrong with our phones. We do not have cell service either, so would have been without any service for over a week, that is phones and internet for which we pay a whopping $150.00/mo. for very poor internet, actually very slow, and non existent most of the time. The problem is, we have no alternative. so they have a "captive" audience. Lucky for us since we have two lines because my husband used to telecommute to his job in Hew Jersey, the ISP is on one line and the phones on the other. The working line is, of course, the internet one, so he switched the lines and somehow got the house phones back. How many people would condone this kind of service. It has gotten progressively worse as time goes on. The irritating part is that we have broadband, fiber optic cables not a half mile away at the bottom of our hill which we are not allowed to access. Others just down the Co. road are on that service. Disgusting!! What would happen if we stopped paying for the internet???? |

A mostly overcast day with a temp of 65 degrees. Storms expected tonight. We could really use some more rain though. We drove to La Crosse yesterday. The corn and beans look good considering the late planting and weird weather we have had all summer. A lot more beans this year, probably due to the very wet spring when farmers could not get into the fields to plant corn. |

It is good to have the internet back after almost two weeks of no service. I do not recommend CenturyTel to anyone for internet service. Tit has gotten so bad that the two service men who were here came from out of state, one from Washington, and the other from Virginia! Both were very competent and friendly and did fix the problem. We had our first rain in many days yesterday. It rained in the AM and again after 8PM or so, enough to upset the sat TV. I will report what I measured, but it could be a little short due o the fact that we had the driveway sealed, and were not able to put the gauge up in the parking lot for three days, so it was under some trees yesterday AM, but I did put it up in its place in later afternoon. Our routine has been really upset the past three days since we have to walk over 500 ft. to get to the vehicles at the end of the blacktop on the driveway. Also one does not realize how much we rely on the ISP, and we are not "phone" people either. In fact, we do have a smart phone, but that service is spotty or not existent here in the house. |

No rain yesterday or overnight. Things are starting to get a little dry around here. I have had to water the flowers almost every day, and I think husband has been watering the garden, although I think the growing season is or has come to an end. We still have tomatoes, tons of squash, and cucumbers which are ripe.
The Amish neighbor gave us some very good sweet corn, and I stopped at the orchard and bought some very green and sour apples which I made into our favorite apple Betty, or whatever people call it. With a little extra sugar it was very good. Hopefully we have our internet problem solved after dozens of phone calls and a visit from at least five repair persons over the course of two weeks. One amusing find was a huge ant nest in one of the junction boxes down along Co.RD S. The ants had filled the box with dirt that became mud with all of the spring rains. Not good for electrical and phone junctions. CenturyLink needs to realize that country junction boxes need to be insect and water proof if they are to protect the connections. That fixed the first problem when se had no signal on either of our two lines. The rest remains too complicated to explain. |

It certainly felt like fall this AM with a temp of just 51 degrees under a mostly cloudy sky. Hopefully this is not the end of summer, but of course Labor Day is on Monday, so I suppose it is. Not ready for winter just yet, although we have two large piles of wood, but have to order LP yet. The road had been seal coated, the septic pumped, and the new patio door is in place and seems to be functioning after I got locked out on the deck twice due to wet paint sealing it shut. So nice to be able to open the door without a struggle. The old one, probably from the mid 70's was badly in need of replacement! This should make a big difference in the amount of cold air that comes into the house. We also replaced the lawn tractor mower blades which made a huge difference. No more streaks on the lawn (actually the field) since there is little grass near the house which we mow with a little push mower. The big 28" self propelled mower is used to mow the big patch in front of the house that has become so steep we can no longer mow it with the tractor. |

A bit warmer today at 63 degrees under a partly cloudy sky. Today is supposed to be the best one of the holiday week end. We do need rain. Parts of Iowa are already declared to be in a drought. Hope they get rain soon so the corn crop will be good. Those farmers have suffered enough as have the ones around here with low prices and some exports halted due to the trade problems with China. I read where that caused a 5& drop in income.(Power CO. news letter). Hard to believe what ones hears on the TV or reads on line. |

Since the thermometer decided to stop working and I am too lazy to go down into the basement to leek at the other one, I do not know the temp. The first Badger football game is this PM. So far it appears that they do have a winning team this year. I went to HS with the husband of Paul Chryst's daughter (PHS class of 1958.) They never speak of his job either.

It was almost pitch black when I got up about 6:50AM this AM. Not looking forward to the days when it will be dark at 4PM and sunrise is well past 7AM. There is nothing I can do about it, so better make the best of it. I have lots of inside projects to do, and of course there is much wood to be cut and hauled in, not to mention the windows that have not been washed for two years. Just saw the doe and here twin fawns in the woods. They are so cute and frisky at this age. We are seeing more of them now that they have become more mobile. Today is chilly and overcast although the upcoming week is supposed to be in the mid 80's. Probably summer's last gasp before the real fall weather sets in. |

The 2 - 4" of more rain predicted for yesterday did not happen. Today it is raining now at almost 8AM from a very dark sky, but no thunder and lightning. The overnight storm yesterday did a lot of damage around here from washing the road, to taking out the sat TV, a DVD player, and my little TV, and the worst, my husbands new computer he just got last week. Now we are back to square one with the e-mails again that he just got up and running from the phone outage. That lightning strike was very close and loud, but we do not know where. Being a ham, my husband has everything grounded, but it must not have been good enough unless the surge came in on the power line. |

The worst of the storms missed us here. There were flood warnings out for Grant CO. to our south. They seem to be getting the brunt of these storms. We had some thunder and lightning, but not the intensity of the past storm. I wonder what happened last PM since we could her the thunder in the distance. |

It did rain overnight, sometime after 11 PM. Our deck will never dry out enough to finish painting it! Things are pretty and green again, but it appears that the crops have stopped growing for the season. I heard that the bu/acre for corn will be less this year than in 2018. I think there is some formula using the price for the seed and the price they get for the corn, they can use to help stem any losses for the crop. What other profession can you get a benefit like that?? Yes, my dad was a dairy farmer all of his lift, and retired at 58 and lived a comfortable life until he was 85. Certainly not possible to do that with today's economy. The small family farm is almost a thing of the past now. So many decaying barns and even houses around here. So sad!! |

We went down to Platteville, but did not see the amount of flood damage I expected from all of the rain they got last week. We had another thunder storm overnight with plenty of lightning. It woke me up around 3AM. The rain that I measured most of it fell after dark because I looked at the gauge at dinner time and in spite of some rain most of the morning, there was very little to measure.
It appears from the radar, that There is absolutely no where for this rain to go, so it will all run off into the rivers. We are supposed to have a big art fair in the park at S. Grove, sown by the river, that when it floods, the park is always full of water. I really feel sorry for those people who put a ton of work into this event only to have it washed out. |

With cooler morning temps and tons of leaves already fallen, it is beginning to feel and look like fall! With so many trees sick or dying, the colors are not going to be very pretty. We left for La Crosse at 8AM and passed through some heavy rain showers north of Coon Valley. It was still raining when we reached out destination, but not much. It stopped shortly after, but did not clear up until early afternoon. Today began cloudy but has now started to clear and will probably become a nice fall day. This is Apple Fest week end in Gays Mills, so it would be great for them to have a decent week end after all of the bad ones that have occurred the past couple of years. I would like to go to the big flea marked at the fair grounds both days. Never buy much, but there is a lot to see, and of course, fresh kettle corn!
